The Heir and The Enchantress is my first intro to Paullett Golden's books. I will be looking forward to reading the other books from their series, The Enchantresses. Four stars.

This is the fifth book of Ms. Golden's entertaining The Enchantresses series. I have had the opportunity to read each one and have enjoyed them all. This one was no exception. Hazel and Harold were two charming and endearing characters and I was easily drawn to them. They both made the best of the situation they were faced with and discovered that love can be found when and where one would least expect it. Despite the fact they were both very young characters, Ms. Golden did a great job of portraying them with depth and maturity. I enjoyed following them on their journey and watching their relationship develop and blossom. The plot was engaging and pulled me in right from the start and kept my interest all the way through. A most enjoyable read!

Harold Hobbs returns home from business in India with a plan to save his family from ruin. He does not anticipate his father’s plot to wed him to Miss Trethow. When he meets his intended, sparks fly.

The book is pretty decent. The characters are also likeable and it's just fun time reading this book!

My thanks to the author and Netgalley for a complementary copy of this book. This read is entertaining and fun. Although part of a series, I had no problem with no having read the previous four books. There is a lot of intrigue, misunderstanding, and foolishness in this tortured love story. Will they ever get together? I read this in one evening to find out. Very amusing!

What a great page turner. A great read. I loved the book. The plot was very well written and I cannot wait for another book. This was from a new to me and great author. I really enjoyed the book. Will definitely recommend this book.

Hazel and Harold are likeable characters and their developing feelings for one another felt real. I am glad certain situations were handled so these two could eventually reach their happy ever after. Easy to love and respect family but also easy to lose those very things. Although young, Harold is a better man than either his grandfather or father ever were and I'm glad he found his worth before their mistakes became his own.

A very enjoyable read with realistic characters. I like that marriage took place early in the book and that it didn't end right after as in many books of this genre. Both Hazel and Harold are strong and likable characters. I just wanted to keep reading. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

I tore through The Heir & The Enchantress. I enjoyed Paullett Golden’s writing so much that I read all of her books back to back until there was nothing left for me to devour. I greatly enjoyed all of the books in the Enchantress series, but this fifth installment is one of my favorites.
The Heir & The Enchantress is a prequel story telling the love story of Hazel Trethow and Harold Hobbs. Enchantress series readers know Hazel as Walter Hobbs’ mother and Lizbeth Trethow’s beloved Aunt from earlier Enchantress novels. I absolutely adore Hazel and Harold individually and together they are even more wonderful.
I enjoyed that Hazel and Harold were very good people who typically made sound choices. The plot of The Heir & The Enchantress was one of my favorites from the series because it opened the usual romance trope of “will they or won’t they get together.” Scandal and obligation brings the two together early on and their love grows after their arranged marriage takes place.
My only minor criticism of the other Enchantress novels was that they all seemed a little long and padded with superfluous and drawn out internal thoughts from the characters, but I found these moments from the minds of Hazel and Harold to hold my interest more; perhaps because I found each character to be so interesting and lacking in self pity or worry. Hazel and Harold are strong and enjoyable characters who find that together they can overcome the challenges posed by greedy and selfish acts of their fathers.
I look forward to the next story Golden offers readers and highly recommend all of her books!

The Heir and The Enchantress by Paullett Golden

This is a standalone in a series. I have not read any of the other books and had no problems with the story.

Hazel and one of her best friends, Agnes is determined to marry for love. But due to an unfortunate incident, as the two are playing matchmakers and enablers for Agnes' governess, they are caught up in a disaster that causes Hazel to become married to Harold Hobbs, heir to Collingswood barony.

Hazel and Harold were already betrothed from childhood, but have not seen each other for years. Harold wanted to marry for love but instead offers up their match to save Hazel from disgrace.

How they decide to live with their choices is interesting. You can have a cheerless, loveless union or take steps to make it a glorious, heartfelt union.

Sincere thanks to #netgalley for the complimentary copy of #theheirandtheenchantress I was under no obligation to post a review.

Tropes: forced marriage, marriage of convenience

Setting: Georgian era. Fantastic details of powdered wigs and painted on beauty marks (on the heroes).

I enjoyed this book, but didn't love it. There were too many plot lines, too many characters, and it was too predictable. This was such a slow burn romance, that the main characters of Harold and Hazel spend only one day together before the 51% mark. In a romance, I need my mc's to have more time getting to know each other or build that relationship.

Harold is the ultimate cinnamon bun hero. He's very sweet, patient, loving. He's also only 20 years old, and I didn't buy all the life experiences he was supposed to have had.

Hazel just turns 17 as the book opens. She's also way too worldly for what is essentially still a child (even in the time period).

Their romance was sweet, but like stated above, I needed more before the halfway point.

My favorite characters were Patrick and Nana. I would read both of their books if this author wrote them!

The Heir and The Enchantress is book five in The Enchantresses series, can be read as a stand alone, though this book is evidently a prequel of sorts, as the hero and heroine in this book are the parents of a hero in one of the previous books in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced review copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and freely given.

I want you to know that I ABSOLUTELY loved this. It was a historical romance at its finest! PG is one of my favorite authors. She writes wonderful stories. You need to read this book. If you love Mary Balogh then you’ll love this. I highly recommend it. A terrific read. A story that was entertaining, deeply moving and read well. It checked all the boxes off the list of a great read. I’m totally in love with Harold. He’s everything honorable and swoon worthy.
I loved:
• The chemistry and romance
• The wooing events
• Almost every interaction between H and H
• Nana and her spirit
• HEA

Good historical romance. Characters are well-developed and the settings and scenarios are written with descriptive charisma. Harold and Hazel (despite having really terrible names) are a cute couple, although I don't think Harold ever acts his age. He's a very old and unconvincing 20. Hazel definitely strikes me as 17, especially in the beginning. I also think it was a rather long story, but I suppose if I had read the previous books in the series, I would have been more engaged. Would recommend to historical romance lovers.

Review posted to Goodreads as follows:

Thank you to NetGalley for this book in exchange for an honest review.
----
This was, all in all, a very satisfactory romance novel. I liked the two main characters and their relationship building. It has a slower pace to it, which I enjoyed.
I did find that they were too young for the experience and maturity that they were purported to have.
They should have been aged up a bit. Harold was only 20, I believe, and that is waaaaay too young. A lot of romance novels have men that are closer to their 30s, so he seems like a baby compared to a lot of the romance I've been reading lately. And Hazel is 17. I know that people, especially rich people, got married young, but dang is 17 young.
I found that this book was a bit hard to follow originally and there were too many characters, but that is my fault for jumping in on book five of a series, even if romance novels do tend to be made to stand alone.
Overall, it was a fun read and I will probably pick up the series at book one.

This book started out as one that I didn't think I would like. The heroine is unexpectedly caught alone with a Lord who is already engaged. So she is ruined. She was supposed to marry the son of one of her father's friends and this was not going to happen because his father needed more than the dowry offered. So the heroine had to look for another man to marry. They were both at the party where she was found with the roguish lord. Her father and his father come to an understanding and the hero marries the heroine. But both find that they have secrets from each other.
Like I said, I didn't like the direction this book was taking, but I am glad I kept reading it because after a while, I couldn't put it down. This book was very much about the relationship of the hero and heroine and how they grew to love each other. This was a very well written book and the story just flowed out. I liked the description of the settings and how the characters fit in the settings. I liked the supporting characters because they were not just thrown In the story, they actually made the book a better read. I liked how they weren't just caught up in parties, they actually worked on the estate and was concerned about the tenants and how what they did affected the world around them. I recommend this book with 5 stars. I read the book and it was so good, I wanted to read it again.

Hazel Trethow dreams of marrying for love, but when she's caught in a compromising position at a hunting party, both her father and the host's father arrange for a speedy marriage to baron's son Harold Hobbs to avoid scandal. Harold has only recently returned from India and had planned on playing a call on Ms. Trethow, his betrothed since childhood, but being forced to marry without getting to know Ms. Trethow isn't want he envisions for his marriage. Despite that, Harold is determined to make the most of the situation and plans to court his wife. Can Harold and Hazel learn to do more than just tolerate each other?

I've read all the books in this series and I loved Harold and Hazel. Harold was so honorable and didn't hesitate to marry Hazel, but it's his attempts to woo his wife for a deeper connection and possibly love that appealed to me. This is a slow burn romance with the intended results. Harold also had to grow up fast to stop his greedy father from bankrupting the barony and I liked how he went about that. There was another good twist in the book with the secondary characters that added to the storyline. Ms. Golden is a talented writer who teases out details about the characters that keep you turning the pages until the end. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Though strangers, Harold and Hazel are forced to marry as part of an investment scheme arranged by their fathers. When Hazel discovers that they're on the verge of ruin, can Harold save their fortune—and their love?

This started off a bit slow for me, Once it got moving, I enjoyed the story. Hazel is incredibly naive in the beginning but is forced to grow up quickly. Harold is a good match for her, patient and kind.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Okay, i didn't really like it, and let me give you a list of reasons why:
1) the prose was a little bit complicated for my taste, as English is my second language, i found it a little bit hard to understand some terms the author used.
2) the story was such a cliche, there wasn't anything new in the book, an arranged marriage that led to love, and the problem wasn't the plot per say, it's just the author didn't leave an impact on me, it could have been written better.
3) i didn't like how negative the lead male protagonist was regarding his father, i know how everyone has his own flaws, but it was just downright frustrating.
Overall, not the best historical romance out there.

5 stars

I haven't read this author before but I shall look out for more work. A delightful story set in Georgian times. Harold has just returned from India, where he has been checking on one of his father's ivestments. Harold knows his father, Eugene, is sailing close to the wind financially, yet his father continues to entertain. They live in Devon and close to Cornwall. Harold has been promised to Eugene's childhood friends daughter, Hazel. Harold is not that bothered and in fact thinks he might have to marry money to improve the family fortunes. Eugene has one more scheme planned and so invites Hazel and her father, friends and other local people to a house party. Harold has a close friend Phillip and Hazel's friend who is in trouble is Agnes. Bear in mind Hazel is 17 and Harold is 20 so very historically correct in when marraiges would have been undetaken. There are betrayals, miunderstandings, passionate schemes and a delightful grandmother. It's realistic and builds well.

I heartily recommend this story. It's book 5 in a series but I think any link is due to Hazel's family name.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
