I was pumped for this book (great cover!), but found it a bit of a let down. It wasn't a bad book per se, it just wasn't as fun and scary as I'd hoped it be (and it's no Salem's Lot). From its tags and description it seemed liked this would be an erotic take on the classic vampire story, but seemed to fall down on both of those fronts, for me personally.

For being a vampire story, we actually don't get much detail on the vampires (and their master Drumskin.) For me this was frustrating. They're described as having white eyes and being kind of fangy (sometimes with bloated necks). But overall...I know this is going to sound weird...they have no personality.

The vamp's attacks on people are quickly described (or not described at all...just ONE ATTACKS... *end scene*). We don't know how do they walk, smell, think, sleep, hunt. We don't know what it's like when one of our main characters turn into one (that action strangely happens "offscreen.") As a result, all of the vampire business starts to feel very remote, more of a plot device, and that makes it less scary. (However, the "vamps in action" part of the story does move along thankfully faster than the first part of the book, so I liked that.)

I guess, for me, the stakes in this book were not high enough. Because there were so many character POVs it was hard to connect with any of them, save for Wilma and Ellen. And, as mentioned above, that meant that when one turned, got eaten/bit, it didn't pack much of an emotional punch.

It was odd because I very much wanted to connect with this book, but I felt like all the character shifting, random updates from random people around town, action that occurs quickly or is not described in detail made it almost impossible to do so.

For me, what makes a book scary is being able to fully picture scenes and experiences as the characters are having them--being able to feel their fear and caring enough about those characters that you're as scared for their safety as you would be your own. The way this book was written made all of that hard for me to do.

Lastly, this is not an erotic book. Yes, the super vamp creature feeds on people through ALL of their orifices, but that is described in passing detail only twice in the book. Other than that, there is one blow job scene and one short sex scene. That's it for eroticism, and quite frankly none of it is more erotic than something you'd see in regular old fiction. Calling this book "erotic" is like calling Zach Synder's Justice League "goth" cause Superman wears a black suit in it.

I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

While I liked the concept, it felt too much like Salem's Lot. A lot of the story seemed to drag and moved too slowly to get to a climax that felt rushed.

*I received this title as a free advance digital copy and this does not influence my review or opinion.

The latest novel from Lee Willow attempts to re-imagine the long established lore of the vampire, but if you didn’t know that beforehand you would think it a straightforward drama.

The real action of the story doesn’t really kick in until two thirds into the story which can be enough to lose some readers.

Willow also comes at the story from multiple perspectives but we never really spend much time with each of our protagonists to care enough about their fates. The action once it arrives is quite impressive and gory but its just a shame it comes so late in the game.

The grammar here is also really bad which often takes the reader out of the experience, with a proofreader needed for the next story.

I requested this one because it might be a 2021 title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book is not my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one rather than push myself to finish it only to give it a poor review

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for providing me with an early copy for review!

If you’re looking for a book that’s an interesting mix of Salem’s Lot by Stephen King and These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, this is the book for you. I really enjoyed the fresh take on vampires in the horror genre that the author took with this book, I thought the ways they differed from classic vampires was well thought and brought a new take to the genre. That said, there are a few things I didn’t enjoy as much, namely, the characters.

~ light spoilers ahead~

This book is told from multiple POV’s, and I felt some of them worked and some of them didn’t for me personally. I really enjoyed the two Female protagonists, Ellen and Wilma, and I thought Connor was interesting too, but the others I found somewhat confusing, and there were some characters who only appeared for a single POV scene in the book and it was a little confusing who they were or how they tied in until about midway through. Also, the villain had confusing motivations, so that also kind of threw me off.

Overall, it was a good read. I was riveted and read it all in one sitting. I’d be interested to read more works from this author.

Erotic horror has never really managed to keep me engaged, but I was IN this novel. It can feel a bit dry at times and can be a bit difficult because of that, but I think it adds to the novel's overall 'vibe' rather than detracting from it. I would recommend this to anyone who's okay with written descriptions of gore, violence, assault, and general gruesomeness.

TW: Death, violence, assault,

Moonlight harvest is an erotic horror novel.

This novel started out with a strong and engrossing prologue. I couldn’t stop reading. The writing style is fantastical and wonderfully descriptive, painting a clear picture in my head. Although, it was a bit dry. But this dryness added to the overall tone. This is a dark and gruesome tale and definitely not for everyone. You follow the lives of multiple characters and at first I wasn’t sure what the significance was of some of them, but it all becomes clear about halfway in. This novel was everything I expected from something labeled as an erotic horror novel. It had a very gothic charm. Think Edgar Allen Poe mixed with Stephen King.

I was sold by the words 'erotic' and 'horror' and this book definitely provided. I don't want to say too much as I think this book is best when going in blind to the plot. But I do really recommend checking this one out

Well that was creepy. A tale of what goes bump in the night. Something you never want to lay eyes on. Never want to be near. Truly terrifying. A true horror novel with such grossly inappropriate content at times I had to keep reading. Ended on a cliffhanger and I, to my own dismay, wanted to continue the story.

Thank you NetGalley for this arc

It's been a while since I've read a horror book that stuck with me, but Moonlight Harvest certainly did. Following the lives of a handful of residents of Lance River, including new-to-town Ellen, bodies start appearing in the town, and it may have to do with the eccentric Bernard Asher cleaning up the mysterious defunct church.

It starts off in a horrifying way, and lets you think you're off the hook for anything more terrifying, but just kidding, more terrifying things happen. It was a quick read for me, since I really wanted to know what the heck was going on, and it ends in a cliffhanger, but I'm excited to read the second book.
