I've been a long time fan of the Salem witch series from the pen of Carol J. Perry so when I saw she was starting a new series I couldn't wait to read it. It lived up to my expectations. Maureen Doherty, aged 36, has been a fashion buyer for a family owned department store in Boston for ten glorious years. She is very good at her job and has the diploma and awards to prove it. Now those and a buck will buy you a cheap cup of coffee. The store closes and she is glad she didn't sign the new lease for her cozy little apartment she shares with her failure of a service dog, a Golden named Finn. He flunked his training for being too friendly and easily distracted. My kind of dog. Before she can fret too much over her new situation, Fate takes her in hand and guides her to her new home - she has inherited the charming Haven Inn located in Haven, Florida, a town off the beaten path but one with a past as a lovely little beach resort. Sounds like a plan so Maureen packs her car and she and Finn head South - straight into the strange world of the Haven Inn, some ghosts and a very new dead guy. What has she gotten herself into? I enjoyed every minute as she finds out what the heck is going on and will she be able to make a new career for herself as an innkeeper (with some delightful ghostly assistance, of course. Oh and besides Finn, there are a couple of cats named Bogie and Bacall. Perfect.
Besides being a fun mystery, the characters are well fleshed out, the location is charming and the writing pace is smooth with just the right touch of humor. I hope there will be many more books in this series.
My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in echange for my honest review.

I’ve really become a huge fan of cozy paranormal books, so much so it’s become almost tied with urban fantasy as my favorite genre, and this one caught my eye. It didn’t take any time at all to become completely absorbed in this title. I’ve read this author before, but I think this is probably my favorite book by her. This one is about a 30-something inheriting a haunted inn by someone she doesn’t know. On her first day there, there is a murder, and everything goes downhill from there. It was fairly obvious who the culprit was after a while, but there were a couple twists that I didn’t see coming. This was very entertaining, and I can’t wait to read more in the series. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Thank you to Kensington Books, Bibliolifestyle, Netgalley and Carol J. Perry for the ARC of Be My Ghost and letting me be part of your book tour. This book is out now!

Maureen and Finn stole my heart with this charming cozy mystery. This is the best kind of book that you can pick up and escape into. This genre is hard to describe but I love having them as a palette cleanser, especially with the heavy horror books I’ve been reading lately. I did see through this one but I’m still very excited for more in this Haunted Haven series because now that the characters and settings are all sorted, I’m ready for more! I highly recommend this light and fluffy cozy mystery to anyone. Especially dog lovers.

Maureen’s career as a sportswear buyer hits a snag just before Halloween, when the department store declares bankruptcy. Meanwhile, Finn’s lost his way as a guide dog after flunking his test for being too friendly and easily distracted. Sadly, only one of them can earn unemployment, so Maureen’s facing a winter of discontent in Boston–when she realizes she can’t afford her apartment. Salvation comes when she receives a mysterious inheritance: an inn in Haven, Florida. A quaint, scenic town on the Gulf of Mexico hidden away from the theme parks, Maureen believes it’s a good place to make a fresh start with a new business venture. But she gets more than she bargained for when she finds a dead body on her property–and meets some of the inn’s everlasting tenants in the form of ghosts who offer their otherworldly talents in order to help her solve the mystery…

The first in this new series, a department store buyer loses her job and moves from Boston to Florida. Maureen Doherty was on a downer as she was also unable to pay her rent on her apartment in Boston until she receives news of a surprise inheritance - in the form of an Inn in a place called Haven on the Gulf of Mexico. Could it be a new business opportunity for her? Arriving with her golden retriever Finn, she meets the oddball collection of locals and her manager, Elizabeth, at the Inn. As she starts to settle in Maureen realises there are other guests... of the ghostly variety. When a murder occurs on her property she goes in search of the killer.

This is a charming mix of ghostliness, furry friends and mystery, set in a pet-loving place. Maureen is a great, independent, smart, driven protagonist and her loving Finn is one of her main focuses. Witty and endearing, I shall be continuing with this humorous series and hope to read more about Maureen's Inn, Haunted Haven and her capers.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

I really enjoyed this book. Took me a while to get used to a new author and her style, but this was a fun book. Excited to read more in the series!

The title is a charming clue to this ghost mystery. Maureen Doherty receives notification that she has inherited an inn in Haven, Florida. She has no idea who left her the inn or why. Since she is losing her job in Boston, the timing is perfect. She and her dog Finn head to Florida, hopeful that this new adventure will be just what they need. The inn is not quite what she expected, it needs updating and the current manager is a little brusque…and then there are the ghosts. She doesn’t believe in ghosts, but when Lorna Dubois appears, Maureen needs to reevaluate her belief. When Maureen finds a man dead on the porch, she is suddenly a suspect. She hadn’t even met the man who was a well-known ghost hunter. With the help of staff and of course Lorna, will she be able to find the real killer and stay out of jail. I enjoyed this light hearted mystery and only wish Ms. Perry would have told us about her discussion with Trent…but maybe in the next book? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

This book is an excellent start to what looks to be a great new cozy series. Maureen has recently lost her job but, she's inherited an inn located in Haven, Florida. With a cast of quirky characters and a resident ghost, it's a delightful book. The mystery itself is entertaining and I'll be looking forward to more in the series.

Maureen's inherited an inn in Florida from a woman she doesn't believe she's ever met but the inheritance comes at a time when she's at loose ends so off she goes. Turns out the inn was run almost as a non-profit, with employees living in, residents getting preferential rates, and purchasing done in a haphazard way. That's not the worst of it- the inn is haunted. And, on Maureen's first day, a ghost hunter is poisoned and dies on the front porch! This is a nicely conceived and executed first entry in a new series. Maureen and her dog Finn are fun, Lorna the ghost is delightful, there's a couple of possible love interests (I'm curious about how things will go with her attorney), and you will find yourself rooting for everyone. Know that the central mystery is never solved, which leaves a great opening for future installments. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

First in a new series by an author I love. This time we are visiting a haunted inn. I enjoyed the character being able to interact with one of the resident ghosts. I liked the mystery and can't wait to see what happens next in Haven, Florida.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

My first by this author although I see she has written a number of books! Having read this one I will be looking out for her other series.

Be My Ghost is set in the small town of Haven in Florida, where Maureen Doherty and her dog Finn go to live after mysteriously inheriting an old inn. As can be guessed from the title there are ghosts in residence as well as people, and not all of them are friendly.

Maureen arrives not believing in the supernatural but she is forced to rearrange her beliefs very quickly. When a murder occurs on her property she has to search out the killer herself and the information she obtains from her ghostly companions helps a lot.

This is an entertaining book with some fun characters and a good story. When it came to the identity of the murderer I thought the 'who' was pretty obvious but the 'why' was unclear until the end. Also at the end were some rather tempting recipes. I will certainly be watching out for more of Maureen and Finn's adventures.

A very promising start to a new cozy mystery series, featuring ghosts. I loved the Florida Gulf Coast setting - a small beach town near St. Petersburg, FL. The main character, Maureen, is a retail buyer who just lost her job due to the collapse of “brick and mortar” retails stores such as the Boston department store where she worked for a number of years. Luckily (?), she inherits an old Florida inn from someone she doesn’t know. So right from the start, we have a mystery to solve: why was Maureen the one to inherit the Haven House Inn? Once she relocates to Haven, FL, with her golden retriever, Finn, things get going quickly. Who killed one of the hotel guests, a professional ghost hunter, and why? I really enjoyed the main character and the long-term residents of the hotel, including Ted, the handsome chef and sometime-bartender. Elizabeth, the manager, is quite resentful of Maureen - she thinks she should have been the one to inherit the inn. There is at least one ghost who makes regular appearances and she’s charming! While I did guess one of the culprits, I did not foresee all the twists and turns. I look forward to reading whatever Carol J. Perry writes next!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Here is yet another wonderfully and spooky tale from Ms. Perry. I have enjoyed every single one. The twists and turns were so unexpected. The characters are so realistic. I have to say that this book is my favorite. I found it to be exciting and quite dramatic. I definitely recommend this book.

Maureen is at lose ends when the department store she worked for folded. Luckily she has just inherited an inn located in a small Florida town. Moments after she arrives a guest is found dead under mysterious circumstances.

This is a pretty boiler plate cozy mystery. Maureen is a bit boring and doesn't seem to have much of an identity outside of her old job as a retail apparel buyer. She is very competent and seems excited at the prospect of fixing up the inn. There are dogs and cats of course. There wasn't a lot of action and the resolution to the mystery was nicely wrapped up. I enjoyed the ghosts and other odd residents of the town.

Be my ghost

I liked the concept for this series - a woman who doesn’t believe in ghosts inherits a haunted inn from a woman she doesn’t know. But I didn’t feel that Maureen was a strong enough character. She was supposed to have been a retail buyer in a large city, but when Elizabeth, the manager at her inn, gives her a hard time she doesn’t have the ability to stand up to her. And I figured out who the killer was pretty quickly. However, I enjoyed the secondary characters and the ghosts and would read the next book when it comes

Thanks Kensington Books and Netgalley for this arc in exchange for my review!!

Paranormal. Cozy. Mystery. Need I say more?? 💖

I am a sucker for a cozy mystery and this story was just what I needed in my life. It brought on all sorts of fall vibes - I even listened to some fall weather ambience while reading... really transported me to the inn Maureen was running!

So basically this story follows Maureen and her ADORABLE dog, Finn. She gets a letter in the mail saying she's inherited a residence but the weird part is... she doesn't know the person who left it to her 😶

When she arrives she notices there's a lot of fixing up to be done for her to run the inn and finds out the place is said to be 💫 haunted 💫

The rest of the story is full of paranormal experiences, mysterious murder, questionable people, a cute bartender, and a lot of fun!

The actual mystery aspect was fun but not hard to crack (and that's coming from someone who never guesses the endings lol)

I would recommend if:
🏚 you like cozy mysteries
🐕 you enjoy a good doggo
👻 you like ghosts

Carol J. Perry has a real winner in Be My Ghost, the first book in her Haunted Haven series. This book has lots of fun must-haves for a good paranormal cozy mystery. There are lots of ghosts who sometimes manifest with very cold air. There's a suspicious death which is later deemed to be murder. Bonus for this series is not only is Haven Inn haunted but the whole town of Haven is. What fun! I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a new series. I found this to be a fun, fast and fast paced read. It has a bit of everything, cozy mystery, paranormal, and a budding romance. Maureen has no idea why she has inherited the inn...another mystery. An enjoyable read that I think most cozy mystery readers would enjoy. 3.5 stars
