Mile High With a Vampire
Argeneau Series - Book 33

Vampire Romance

Jet Lassiter had been flying vampires, or immortals, as they referred to themselves, around the world. It was a lucrative job, and he enjoyed it. This had been another mundane flight, until he had awakened after the plane came crashing down. He had survived, but he was the only mortal with a group of gravely injured vampires who were consumed by blood lust. It was up to newly turned Quinn Peters to help him evade the immortals who were no longer in control of themselves.

Quinn hadn’t wanted to become a monster, but she had. For the past few years, she had existed, but not really wanting to embrace her new life. She may not have spent any time fine tuning her new abilities, but she was the only chance Jet had of surviving the others.

As they traverse the wilderness trying to elude their pursuers, Quinn learns another immortal lesson. It was very possible that Jet was her life mate. Quinn might finally be willing to try to accept the life she now was living, but she still had a good amount of healing and growth to go until she would be ready for a life mate. She just had to keep reminding herself of that.

Mile High With a Vampire was a fast paced thrill of a read full of suspense and romance. Jet and Quinn had a bad day, starting with surviving a plane crash, which granted was good, but then stranded with no blood and being chased by mindless vampires. It was fascinating to see how they worked together to try to thwart their pursuers and give themselves the extra time they needed until help could arrive. There were things in Quinn's history which hadn't been pleasant, and contributed to her hesitancy in wanting a life mate. Jet was the perfect hero for her, unwilling to just push his wishes upon her. Willing to work with her how she needed. Full of familiar characters, Mile High With a Vampire was another winner in this series.

Mile High with a Vampire begins with Quinn Peters asleep on a flight aboard an Argeneau jet. She awakens to loud noises and debris flying everywhere. The next thing she sees is the ground rushing up to meet them and a gaping hole in the side of the plane. She hears an engine start and then the plane leveled out as it tore through the woods and slammed to an abrupt stop. Thankful to be alive, she speaks with another who is on the plane, and they check on the ones still aboard.

Jet Lassiter comes to and sees that the plane is on the ground, but also sees that his friend and mentor had been killed on impact. Jeff Miller had been a great pilot and Jet would miss him terribly. The next thing he saw was a “she-pire” (why in the world would an Argeneau employee ever use that word???) approaching Jeff and he yells at her to get away from him. When Quinn turns toward him, he immediately recognizes her and knows a little bit of her story. If he were being honest with himself, she had starred in a fantasy or two of his, but first things first………. they must get away from the wreckage before the other immortals who were horribly injured in the crash come to and look for the only thing that can help them: blood. Even though Quinn was immortal, Jet wasn’t, and she knew she’d never be able to keep them off him.

Quinn and Jet put as much distance as possible between themselves, the wreckage and the three immortals who were bound to be coming after them. As they navigate the forest around them, they are both aware they are running out of time. They eventually make it to an outpost of sorts that has a small crew of people working there. To say they have their work cut out for them trying to secure the facility, its people and themselves is an understatement. They do what they can until the calvary arrives. What neither of them expected was the pull they have towards each other. However, once they are taken to the enforcer house, things begin to make more sense, even though they both resist at first.

Mile High with a Vampire is a nice addition to the series. I really liked Quinn and Jet’s character development. I just wish there had been more conversation and less of them with their own thoughts. Quinn’s backstory ends up having a lot more layers than we initially learned of in a previous book. The chemistry between Quinn and Jet started slow but soon blossomed into what you expect from Sands. I always love getting to see the characters we’ve come to know and love over the last thirty-two books (this being the thirty-third). If you’re a fan of the genre and a fan of Sands, you’ll certainly enjoy this one! Well done, Lynsay Sands! Very well done!

My Thoughts

Quinn Peters is, to say the least, described as an immortal with past trauma that has shaped her entire life in ways she never would have otherwise chosen.

To put it bluntly since she was turned forcibly against her will and without any choice immortal life for the past four years has, no pun intended, sucked.

Due to her flight crashing she is left with protecting mortal pilot Jet Lassiter against the rest of the immortal passengers.

As the pair grow closer their future is unsure but one thing is for certain the life mate bond refuses to be denied and it creates one more stressor for the pair to worry about.

Having missed reading book 29 where Quinn was introduced I missed out on her back story and felt the lack in this stories beginning however as it went on that ceased to matter when my delight with this newest pairing became more focused.

Book 33 is a very different coupling with Quinn and Jet as they seem to be on a more even footing than other immortal pairings in the series so far.

Interestingly enough Jet however is more knowledgeable about what it means to be life mates than Quinn, his time spent chatting with the immortals whose flights he had co-piloted gave him a wealth of information which made the situation easier on him than her.

A truly worthwhile addition in a series that I have enjoyed since it first started with first book back in early 2000’s and every book that have read in series since !

I really wanted to like this book! I have read many Lynsay Sands book, several in this series alone, and I always enjoy her style of writing. Sadly, in this book, there was something missing in the romance, seeming to be more to do with the heroine than the hero. Quinn was just...not inspiring? She had a lot of emotional issues that just made it seem like the last thing she should be doing is be the star of a romance novel. She and the hero, Jet, get sexual very quickly, which makes sense as life mates, but the attraction didn't feel all there to me. Jet kept saying he admired her from afar for a long time...yet he had very little knowledge of her past. He had only met her once and yet had been obsessing over how hot she was. So I guess that was what we got in terms of explaining the initial attraction, but it all felt so off to me. And Quinn, she had no interest in a life mate and I felt really bad for Jet. She would jump his bones for sex but push him away for anything more, even when she knew they were life mates. Basically used him to make herself feel better. Not to mention that in the beginning of the book, she wanted to leave him for dead rather than try to help him escape some hungry vampires. Yes, a real winner of a heroine here.

Sadly, the heroine was not the strong woman I expected, and I was unimpressed by the chemistry between them. It made the story just "blah" for me and not one I wanted to continue reading. Took me over a week to finish, when most books take me 2-3 days at most.

Loved this.
So glad they were able to help Quinn with all that she was dealing with.
Usually it takes a little bit to really get into the story, but not with this book. I was hooked from the very beginning.

MILE HIGH WITH A VAMPIRE, An Argeneau Novel Book #33 by Lynsay Sands
This is another well written, enjoyable installment in the Argeneau world. Jett Lassiter is a pilot for them so he has a great understanding of the Argeneau world. He has also had a crush on Quinn for four years. Quinn Peters is a cardio thoracic surgeon who was turned unexpectedly by her husband four years previously. Quinn is embittered since she is unable to practice medicine anymore, so she refuses training about her new life. When an emergency happens, Quinn is determined to keep Jett safe from hungry vampires that are chasing them. They no sooner get through one problem before they run into another. This is a 4 star read.

I was really excited for this book considering we met the heroin a few books ago. I've read literally every book thus far in this series and always enjoy them. This one, unfortunately, was really boring for me and I hate to even say that. About halfway through the book instead of being excited about finishing I was honestly just bored. I hate even admitting that because of how long I've been reading this series!

This was a well-written, entertaining book. It was sexy and fast-paced. It held my interest and I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.

I LOVED THIS STORY! In this installment our heroine Quinn Peters was forcefully turned by her ex four years earlier. Despite being brilliant Quinn did not take this well at all and has been hiding from all things immortal since. When the plane she and other immortals are flying in goes down it is up to her to save the human pilot from bloodthirsty injured immortals. The human pilot knows more about being an immortal than Quinn does. Watching Quinn and Jet learn about each other and the world they live in was sweet and exciting and oh so fun. I loved that Quinn wasn’t perfect and was reaching out for help.

Mile High With A Vampire is the newest addition to the Argeneau series and it had the same tones of flair, humor, and action that we have come to expect from this series and this author. I actually had a fun time with this book and while it’s not the most impressionable of the recent books in the series, I found myself entertained and quite drawn into the series and this unique pairing. I will say that the pair that we come to know in this book is not your typical couple, and quite frankly at first, I had no clue how Lynsay Sands would make them work but somehow by the end they just fit right for each other so bravo to this author for redeeming them in such an equal fair way for me.

MILE HI WITH A VAMPIRE FEATURES:
Jet Lassiter-Pilot, military background, martial arts training, aware of immortals and works for Bastien and company.
Quinn Peters-Asian (Chinese) descent, single mother, new to being vampire(immortal)
Mile High With A Vampire sets off with Jet and Quinn sharing a flight with a few other vampires but during their journey their plane crashes, there are injuries of other vampires who once awaken will be full of blood lust. With Jet being mortal his life is in peril from those that will be going insane with blood lust. Quinn is instructed to take Jet and run as far as they can find a way to contact Bastien or Lucien and wait for help to arrive. As they flee into the mountains they will have to rely on each other’s strengths to get them through the ordeal. But through their journey in the mountains, they start to connect as lifemates, passing through each other’s dreams. Even though Quinn is the one with vampire immortal like strength she is green to her world. She has kept herself locked away for years, hiding from the trauma of her past and the truth of her new identity. It is Jet that keeps them focused and helps her with her abilities and knowledge. But as they fight their way to staying alive and protecting the mortal who aids them, their bond will strengthen. But Quinn will have to come to face with her past and fight for the man who loves her deeply. But will her past and that which haunts her keep her from finalizing their connection and push away this strong gentle man away forever?

Mile High With A Vampire was such a different romance than I have come to expect from this author. And yes we have seen these types of pairings occasionally with Lynsay Sands before which features the heroine being the vampire and the hero being the mortal (human). But this one was different in that even though our heroine is the vampire, she is new and has neglected to learn about who she has become. I did love seeing the depths of her past come to light and seeing her face up to that. And our hero is no weakling either. He has a history of military service and martial arts training, so he is more than capable in many ways. He is the solid and true one in the relationship but also will stand up for himself. He lets Quinn know when she is treating him wrong and sets healthy boundaries for their relationship, and Quinn has to really face up to her own actions especially in how she treats him, and re-evaluate her decisions. I really loved seeing this aspect in their relationship. Seeing the growth in Quinn was truly phenomenal and I admire the way it played out in this story. I also had a blast with other secondary characters and we got some laughs with Lucien. Man, he cracks me up every time he comes into one of these books. I LOVE it. As he is one of my favorites of the series, His dry sense of humor just added the right flair to the story and had me having bursts of laughter in all the best of ways.

Overall I found Mile High With A Vampire is a fascinating, high thrilling adventure of a romance, that takes us through the forests, a perfect fit love story that delves into deeper issues, with diverse characters, laughter and light to balance it through it all. A true piece of art that only Lynsay Sands can deliver.

She’s a real Jet setter
Books like this are why I fell in love with the Argeneau series! Right from the very first page, the author dropped us into the action and the story never slowed down from there. I love that Quinn suffers from the same fears and anxieties as the rest of us. And could Jet have been anymore of a better match for her? The two of them together make the perfect team, be it running from loco she-pires or abandoning ship to avoid the impending fireworks, these two connect on a level that brings them right to their HEA. This was a fantastic book and I can’t wait to see who finds the life-mate they’ve always dreamed of next.

The Argeneau Vampire series is one of my favorites and I eagerly await her next book in the installment. Mile High With A Vampire is #33 and it follows human pilot Jet Lassiter who on a routine flight crashes with 6 immortals on board, 3 of which are very injured and out for blood which they need for healing. So it is up to a reluctant and somewhat newly turned immortal Quinn Peters to keep him safe. I really enjoyed Quinn and Jet's story, we got a glimpse of Quinn in her sister's book which is #29 in the series. I am rarely disappointed with this series because I always know what I am going to get which is a lot of steamy times with great dialogue and story telling. This doesn't need to be read in order but it does help to read some first, especially when the events referenced in this one happened in another book. I also love that we get to see past characters randomly show up in these books and it's nice to see what past favorites have been up too! Thank you so much to Avon and Harper Voyager for my gifted copy for review. I can't wait for her next book!!

I wanted to like this book more than I really did. The main female character just seemed so emotionally stunted that I could not get over her continual emotional angst. Jet for the most part seemed to have endless patience. Once the story seemed to get past the emotional trauma to actual action the book ended really quickly.

Really liked how we were back to the old style of her books and wasn’t trying anything too deep. I liked how we looked back at Quinn and pets backstory because it’s been a while since I read pets book and I don’t think I ever fully got it. I loved both the characters, especially jet he was such a good guy throughout the whole book. Overall, this novel was a cute continuation of one of my favorite romance series!

I have read quite a few books in this series and I do like the fact you can read each one as a stand alone. Of course if you have read the series more of the supporting characters will be familiar. A favorite thing for me in these books is the humor. Usually the guy is just clueless on how to explain he is an immortal and when he tries to woo the women hilarity ensues. But this book was different. Not only was it about a women immortal Quinn, but she really didn't know much about lifemates or being an immortal.
The story was fast paced from the start with a plane crash that left mortal pilot Jet Lassiter in trouble. He was the only blood source on a crashed plane with injured vampires in the middle of nowhere. This is when Quinn steps up and uses some of her vampire abilities for the first time to save Jet from the injured vampires.
Because Jet has been around immortals for many years as a pilot for Argeneau industries he is the one that ties it all together and realizes they are lifemates. I enjoyed the story line that followed his realization.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advance reader copy from NetGalley and was not compensated in any way.

Jet Lassiter is living his best life. He loves his job and doesn’t even mind that his passengers are vampires. It’s everything he could dream of until his plane goes down and four of his passengers are seriously injured, with only his blood to cure them….Quinn Peters never asked to be an immortal and was turned against her will. She hates the direction her life has taken and just when she thinks it can’t get any worse, it does….

Overall, I thought this book was a quick and easy read. This story hits the ground running and never looks back. I found this story to be fresh and interesting. I haven’t read many books by this author, but was still able to enjoy this read without feeling lost. When it comes to Quinn and Jet’s romance, it definitely is a case of insta-love. Their story was filled with drama, lots of exciting moments, and an overall enjoyable romance.

This is a fast reading, hot and sexy vampire 'romance.

I adore Lynsay Sands early vampire novels and all of her historicals. The earlier novels relied more on comedy; for instance, The Accidental Vampire or Single White Vampire. These are the types of books that started this series. Now, I know that no long-running series can rely on only certain tropes and remain fresh and popular, but I have to say that the last few books I've read rely more on sex and violence than anything else. If that is your thing, the darker aspect of vampire romance, then you are going to adore this book.

Mile High With a Vampire starts quite strong; very exciting and stays that way for a certain amount of time, then because we are immediately thrust into sexual situations. I won't tell you why because that would be a spoiler. But you will figure it out soon enough; believe me, it's obvious.

Something that bothers me is that we start with certain characters that seemed to be playing important roles -and then we never hear about them again. That seemed to be a bit of inadvertently unfinished business and annoyed me a bit.

Also, I'm not sure if I missed a book or not, but we never truly get the full story on Quinns' change -the why's of it. Did I miss a book?

I think that I really need to step back from reading my comfort Argeneau books if I am going to continue this series. That or I need to drop at least 20 years! LOL!

I loved this book! It was super special to see this woman who was scared and scarred try to help while she was completely unprepared. She’s lovely and she just keeps trying.
Then, you have a mortal man who is crazy about her and he’s been crazy about her for a long time. And all he’s been able to do is watch. And be confused. Because it’s just hard to talk to a girl in mourning.
She’s got a kid. And she’s worried about him. And how he will react. It’s just a great story and I really loved every stranded on a island with people chasing you part of the story.

Immortal (a.k.a.Vampire) fated mates

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💋💋💋💋💋
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 👨🏻👱🏻‍♀️🧔🏻👩🏻👱🏼‍♂️

The heroine: Quinn - a former cardiothoracic surgeon, Quinn was turned into an immortal four years ago after her husband was turned and then attacked both her and her son. Quinn was in a bad state after she was turned and found it all hard to deal with.

The Hero(es): Jet - he is a former Navy pilot who now works for the Argeneau Corporation as a corporate pilot that transports immortals from place to place. Though he is a mortal, through his job he is aware of immortals.

The Story: While on a flight from Italy to Canada, the plane crashes, the pilot dies and several of the immortal women are hurt very bad. The only way for their immortal bodies to heal is to take in large amounts of blood so the nano’s in their bodies can start repairing the injuries. However, the only source of blood is Jet. Quinn has to get him to safety before the immortal women in that state of blood lust are able to tear him apart.

As Quinn reflects back on her marriage and he husband, he always seems to come back wanting in comparison to Jet. Quinn’s husband Jack seemed to be a selfish, self-centered, and controlling man who tried to compensate for his own low self esteem by keeping Quinn down as much as possible. While Jet is fully confident and able to admit when he needs help from Quinn since she is immortal and he isn’t.

I also like that fact that new life mates are so unused to the shared pleasure they experience when they are intimate that they both literally pass out right after the big “O”. And it kills me that immortals hate the fact that some people call them vampires when they are not. They just can’t be killed unless they are burned to death or beheaded and the head is kept apart from the body for too long.

“They called themselves, and now her, immortals, but that felt like little more than a nicety to her. To her way of thinking, if it walked like a duck and quacked like a duck, it was probably a duck, and much to her distress she now had fangs and needed to take in blood to survive—a vampire.”

The story was a good one and I especially liked the way Quinn came around to realizing that her dead husband wasn’t as bad as she initially thought and how she bore a lot of the blame herself. For a while during the story I saw her as weak, despite how she helped Jet after the plane crash and was glad there was eventually a reason for that and she ended up a very strong character.
