This book was a blast to read, Helena Hunting writes some of the best friends to lovers romances out there, When Sparks Fly, will have you wanting more.

Avery and Declan, best friends since college that are now roommates, they were strictly in the friends zone with each other, until they weren’t. Their chemistry was amazing, lots of feel good vibes coming from these two. Lots of laugh out loud moments, the back and forth banter made them one of my new favorite couples, don’t miss out on these two, you won’t be disappointed!

Helena Hunting heats things up with WHEN SPARKS FLY. In this story, Avery Spark and her roommate/best friend, Declan McCormick crossed the line after he takes care of her following a car accident. The story takes place in Colorado Springs.

Avery and her two sisters: Landon and Harley, own an event hotel named Spark House. It’s an interesting hotel. A lot of the story revolves around creative ways to grow their business.

Avery and Declan have been best friends since college. They are likeable characters. They played intramural soccer together. I love how they share crossword puzzles. They both show a lot of growth in the story.

Avery dated their friend Sam in college. When they broke up, Declan chose Avery over Sam. Sam makes an appearance in this story that causes some friction between the characters. The two have some issues they need to resolve. Their friendship is jeopardized, but they realize the importance of the other in their lives.

Helena Hunting does a nice job with this story. I recommend this book to people who enjoy friends to lovers’ romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a sweet, quick read with a great friends to lovers trope. There was a good bit of emotion packed into this read, and I thought both of the characters experienced a good bit of development throughout the novel. Would definitely recommend to fellow romance lovers.

I really enjoyed this book. The only reason this book lost a star is because of the major miscommunication at the end of the book and how long it took to resolved. I adored the book and the concept. This is probably one of my favorite books by this author.

When Sparks Fly is a heartfelt, spicy and funny best friends to lovers romance.

Declan and Avery are best friends & roommates. They secretly harbor “more than friends” feelings for each other but are scared to cross that line and ruin one of the most important relationships in their lives. Declan lives his life as a playboy to hide his true feelings and Avery buries herself in her job.

Until one really big mistake by Declan results in him not being there for Avery, liked he promised, and now she is pretty seriously injured and needing of assistance. Declan wants to fix his mistake and be there for Avery now……but how exactly does she really need him? Will his guilt & secret feelings push him to finally make his move?

I loved this story. It’s honestly just so entertaining. You are alternating thoughts of “OMG, just admit your feelings” to “KISS HER NOW!!!” To “Hot Damn” since they are so hot together. I felt like an actual spectator in a real life relationship. And when they across the friendship lines they had previously drawn, it’s explosive, hot, sweet & romantic (and seriously so funny—-the special brownie scene!!). Too bad, it’s not perfect and they both make a lot of mistakes that can not only ruin their new relationship but even their friendship. You will be on the edge of your seat and rooting for them the entire time.

Another amazing book from Helena and I cannot wait for Averys’ sisters books…..

When Sparks Fly is the story told by Avery Spark. She and her two sisters run Spark House, an event hotel. Avery is happy with her life. She co-owns a condo with her good friend, Declan McCormick. They have been friends since college and they have a group of friends from that time. Avery’s parents were killed in a car accident that occurred during a rainstorm. Avery has reservations about driving in the rain because of that.

Avery has the opportunity to make a pitch to her college alumni association for the event hotel. She has made plans with some old friends to meet and attend a game while she is at the college. Declan is going to go with her. She reminds him several times about the event. The night before they are supposed to go, she has a date. This is our first indication that Declan could possibly have feelings for her. He objects to the dress she is going to wear on the date. He thinks it is too revealing when she is going out with someone he doesn’t know. She wears the dress anyway and goes out. Declan goes out that night and gets drunk, picks up a woman, and leaves his car by the bar, and takes an Uber home. In the morning, he oversleeps and then tells Avery that his car isn’t available. She had not wanted to take her car because she thinks she needs new tires and it is raining hard. She feels she doesn’t have any choice but to leave without him in her car.</p>

Declan calls her while she is driving to apologize. While they are on the phone, a guy in a white truck causes a multicar accident, and Avery is taken to the hospital. She has multiple injuries and will need full-time care for several months. Declan announces that he will be the one to take care of her over the objections of her sisters.

It is during the caregiver intimacy where we move into a new phase of their relationship. But that is not the end of the story. They have problems that both need to face before we could move into a happy ever after.

The book is a quick, interesting read. I think that while working to their “happily ever after” they run into some real-life problems that they work through. The wrinkles help the story. I think it is a good fall under the covers book.

Oh I love me some friends to lovers and I really enjoyed the intensity of Declan and Avery. There are some interesting twists and turns that will have you on your toes. There is passion and banter that is classic Hunting. I adored how much Declan is there for Avery when she needs the help. I loved the slow burn between the two of them. There was the right level of angst and more within the pages. This was a great read if you are a Hunting fan!

When Sparks Fly is the perfect best friends to lovers book this year! I've always been a fan on Ms. Hunting's book and this is just another favorite of hers.

It's an entertaining and fun read between best friends Avery and Declan. They've been friends since college and currently roommates. But when that spark that was hidden between the surface of their relationship ignites, everything changes for them!

There is a good reason why these two are best friends. They have a lot in common and really get each other. And there's also a good reason why neither of them do a serious romantic relationship. Avery had her heart broken by Declan's friend and is happier spending her time at work rather than dating, and Declan... Declan has a lot of emotional baggage from family.

Their spark happens after Avery's car accident and it puts everything in motion between Avery and Declan. But moving beyond of best friends to lovers isn't an easy relationship.

There's a lot of humour, a fast paced plot and a lot of twists.
Excellent character and plot development.

3.5🌟
Overall this was a light, easy going friends to lovers romance. We had a little drama but nothing too explosive, we had a bit of humour (I snort laughed a fair few times) and we had some steam in a tortuous slow burn. I love friends to lovers and this did it for me due to the fact that they weren't obviously pinning for each other it was just a nice gradual realisation that there was an attraction there and it needed exploring which made the story feel authentic. I liked the family and friends dynamic within the story and hoping we will see more from the Sparks sisters. I liked how Declan owned his mistakes and took action which wasn't easy for him. The couple were so sweet together it was great to see them work things out and learn from their mistakes . If you want a easy going romance with a dusting of humour pick this up.

I absolutely loved Avery and Declan's story! I've only read 1 or 2 other books by Hunting, and this is my favorite of them. I'm not big on thr cartoon/animated covers, but that's neither here nor there.

The story itself was fantastic. I love a good friends to lovers story. It provides background and a foundation for the characters so that it doesn't come off as insta-love/lust.

I really liked how he doted on Avery after her accident, even if it was out of misplaced guilt. And even though they're roommates, having to spend 24/7 with each other after the accident just brings all kinds of feelings to the surface.

I really liked the supporting characters too. Her sisters and the guys that Avery and Declan hung out with all the time. They helped our main characters navigate this unknown territory of feelings.

Also, it was super sexy while also respecting Avery's limitations while she was healing.

When a new Helena Hunting book comes across my feed, I know I need to buy it immediately! She does romance like nobody else and When Sparks Fly is no exception. This intriguing story consists of family drama and romance and mixed together - with a little bit of anxiety on top! Excellent read.

Loved this charming friend to lovers romance about two college friends that chose to be roommates and when one got in an accident the other felt responsible. Through the Guilt while taking care of the friend, chemistry arises and they realize how much they have feelings for eachother

This is a tough one because I love Helena Hunting and there were parts of this that I really enjoyed but other parts that just didn't work at all. I think there should've been several trigger warnings here. I also think that the issues that Declan and Avery faced could've really been worked out a lot easier without all the hubbub. I do appreciate the promotion of therapy and mental health and taking time to work through issues rather than just forgiving/forgetting and moving on, but I feel like the characters were too old to be as immature as they were in certain aspects. Again, there were still some really great parts that I enjoyed and the steam was great--just wish there was more.

Avery and Declan are best friends and roommates. When Avery gets in a car accident after Declan flakes out on their agreement to drive across the state together, Declan feels immense guilt and becomes her nurse and personal assistant. Loving in such close proximity can only lead to sparks flying between the two. But should best friends get involved?

This is a quick, open door romance with a fair amount of steam.

Thank you to St Martins Press and NetGalley for a digital ARC and MacMillan audio for a multiple narrator ALC in exchange for my honest review.

When Sparks Fly by Helena Hunting is the truly entertaining story of Avery Spark and her roommate and best friend Declan McCormick. This friend-to-lovers story was so well done and a story allows the reader to feel the connection and to really feel the SHIFT as these two finally see what has been in front of them for years!

Avery and Declan have been just friends, great friends for years.. so when Declan steps up to care for Avery after an inquiry no one around them is surprised... and than the world starts to shift

Two mean so much to each other but as you can guess once they move to a physical relationship the dynamic shifts big time! Declan comes to the relationship with baggage, baggage he has pushed deep down that he struggles to see what is in front of him... and though I don't usually adore a hero who does not it... in this case, my heart broke for him as his pain was tangible.

Since it is a romance book it is likely not a spoiler to share that Declan does find his way to accepting the love in front of him.... he does grab a hold of this relationship one fostered over the years of friendship. Friendship that makes for an ideal perfect foundation for forever love.

Hunting pushed these characters, pushed for a story that felt true to the story. Declan's character development was amazing to experience, it was like watching a 'boy' or really a man child develop into a man worthy of deep forever love both the giving and receiving of it!

This book contained trademark Hunting humor woven with deep connection....something that I think is so hard for more authors to pull off!

I am so excited for the new book in this world, Starry-Eyed Love!

After Avery is hurt, her best friend and roommate, Declan, decides to step up and take care of her. It isn't long before emotions and needs start getting in the way of their friendship.

I enjoy a good friends-to-lovers story, and this one definitely didn't disappoint. I loved Avery and Declan. They're so good together. There were lots of emotions and angst and tears and it was all just so heartfelt. Highly recommend.
