When Sparks Fly is the delightful beginning of the Spark House series. I frankly had read Starry-Eyed Love first and completely forgot that I had the first story downloaded and devoured it quite happily. Declan and Avery make such a sweet friends-to-lovers couple, even if it did take an accident for them to acknowledge the more-than-friends feelings between them.

There is so much to enjoy about Avery and Declan – but, also there were things that happened that were, quite frankly, difficult for me to go beyond. That’s a personal opinion/reaction and doesn’t really reflect on their romance only some things that push the wrong buttons for me. Declan made some mistakes, and it’s obvious that he felt bad about those choices yet best friends don’t treat each other like this usually so I really wanted to see some serious groveling. But, that’s me.

In all, When Sparks Fly is a fun rom-com that gives best friends the chance to risk their hearts when emotions beyond friendship come into play. The cover description gives you the most important details of their story. They each have issues yet they’re dealt with in a realistic fashion. I liked them even when I was annoyed with some of their actions. I had fun here, and that’s the entire point. If you love a good friends-to-lovers romance with unusual circumstances bringing that about then this one is perfect for you.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Friends to lovers is a superior trope and one of my favorites to read. While this book isn't ground-breaking nor adds anything new to the genre, it was still a cute read.

Super excited when Harley and Gavin's story arrived. I enjoyed going back to Spark House with sisters Avery, London, and Harley. Now its Harley's turn to find love. Gavin is a single parent and struggling to adjust with caring for his daughter Peyton, work, and trying to please his in-laws. Harley was Peyton's nanny for about 18 months of her life, prior to Gavin and Peyton moving away. Years pass and they move back to the area. A chance meeting brings them back in to each other's lives. This story is fun and easy to read. Harley is such a unique, beautiful soul. Gavin is a hot dad that still has a lot to work through after losing his first wife. Such a great story of two people who deserve to have love and find each other. Enjoy!!!

Friends-to-lovers FTW!

Friends-to-lovers has been one of my favorite troupes since I was [mumble mumble] years old and saw When Harry Met Sally (in the theater, on its original run...) for the first time. That idea of longtime friends whose friends all know that they're MFEO and are just waiting for the two of them to realize it and when they do it's so good but then it isn't anymore until it is?

Yeah. I loved that.

Avery and Declan's path to their HEA has a whole lot of aspects that aren't in WHMS--they're so far in denial that they've been living together as roommates for years, Avery is nearly killed in an accident for which Declan blames himself, Declan's round-the-clock care of his roomie takes a turn when he forgets to knock one morning--but maybe favorite part of their story is that in order to get to that HEA it doesn't just involve one of them admitting he was an idiot and groveling appropriately.

Not that there was anything wrong with Harry's grovel, mind you (if nothing else, it makes me feel *slightly* better about the vertical line that lives between my own eyebrows). But a breakup is rarely one person's fault, and even though it's really easy to side with Avery initially, they both had something to do with the events that caused their implosion and both had some work to do to get them back on track. I mean, I love the NYE speech as much as the next person (OK, probably way more than the average person, but whatever), but it's hard to deny that they both had issues that needed to be acknowledged and worked through, and that's what Declan and Avery do. It's honestly a toss-up as to whether it was more fun watching them back up into love originally or work their way back into it after, but either way it's a swoon-worthy read.

When Sparks Fly is billed as a standalone, but Avery has two sisters, and I wouldn't be sad if they each (and heck, why not her and Declan's two other friends as well?) got HEAs too... ;)

A cute and funny romance between two best friends and roommates.

Avery and Declan realize that their friendship is ready to head into dangerous territory when a horrific accident leaves Avery injured and Declan ends up taking care of her every need while she’s incapacitated. And I mean every need.

My favorite thing about this book is that their friendship was solid and that there wasn’t underlying sexual tension until after the accident. The best relationships work when the couple are friends as well.

Good book as usual from the author.

* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

A story that has two roommates falling for one another after a car accident which was actually Declan's fault. While taking care of her though that is when the sparks begin to fly. A good book.

On a string of "eh" books lately. This one in particular had lots of promise but just didn't succeed in the end.

4.5 stars. This was a slow build, friends to lovers story opening a new series from Helena Hunting. If you enjoyed Shacking Up, I think you’ll love this story as well. Avery and Declan are best friends, roommates and two people that have ignored how they feel about the other since they met. Watching them finally give in and explore was great. Seeing them deal with the complications and demons of their lives, oh wow was it good.

I really enjoyed this friend to lovers romance at to come to terms with their feelings when Avery is an car accident and her best friend and roommate Declan when he puts a one-night stand before her. Soon he has to step up to the plate in the role of caretaker and as they continue to spend more time in compromising positions the attraction they refuse to acknowledge becomes impossible to ignore.

I really liked how Declan recognized and was self-aware that he needed to change and then made the needed actions to change rather than just taking about it for Avery.

I started the series a little backwards and had already knew Averys story end in a happy ever after. I still went on trying to read what I knew was already going to happen but it definately was not a waste of time. I absolutely loved Averys story! I found it sexy, real and adorable. I really enjoy every sister and am invested in their stories. Bravo Helena Hunting

It's a cute and sweet friends to lovers story. I liked Avery and Decklan. I enjoyed the bond between the sisters. I loved the writing but there was something missing for me.

Helena Hunting writes spice. She writes well. She writes addictive stories. This was no different. In addition to its beautiful cover, I truly loved the love story in this one. Very quick read because of how wonderful I found it to be!

I love Helena Hunting’s writing and a good friends to lovers story so I was excited to pick this one up. It had it’s cute, sweet, and steamy moments, and I loved a lot about the first half, but the last half didn’t work great for me. I will of course keep reading Helena Hunting's books.

This was a fun friends-to-lovers story.

Avery and Declan have been best friends for years and they're also roommates. When Avery gets seriously injured in a car accident, Declan feels horrible and guilty since he was supposed to be with her on the trip. To make it up to her, Declan insists on being her caregiver and their friendship goes to a whole new level as a result.

A fun and entertaining read!

I’m so sorry, I forgot that I had requested this book. My apologies as I no longer read this author.

Not for me. Car accidents are a trigger and there were references and on page scenes. Then there was the love interest…. Not a fan of this one.

If you've read my reviews or know me at all, you know I love me the a-holes. HARD. The meaner they are and the more tortured, the better. However, it seems even I have a line. And this particular hero was that line in the sand for me.

I'll keep this short and sweet. The thing that happens that sets this entire story in motion bothered me. A lot. And while Declan does grovel for a good amount of the story afterwards, I couldn't find it in me to forgive him and move on. Because what he did was that petty and low, that I could look past if they were acquaintances. But the fact that these two are best friends who live together, I absolutely hated his choices.

The other missing link was the chemistry. I felt none of it. It truly felt like the two of them got together because it was convenient. And the thing that set that
And then as I finally start to get on the road to forgiving Declan and this coming to a solid three star read, the major conflict happened. And I. Was. Done. His reaction was just too much, on the tail end of his original screw ups, that no groveling would make it right for me. And I appreciate the author handling it in a better way than just grazing over the issue and having him go to therapy. But alas, it was too little too late. And Avery taking :accountability" in her role in it, was just plain ridiculous.

Suffice it to say, I didn't enjoy it sadly. There were things I liked, but most of it I didn't. And as much as I wanted to love it, the ending simply killed it for me.

But hey, that's just one reader's opinion. If you like friends to lovers romances with an imperfect sort of hero with a slew of issues from his divorced parents, give this a go.
