I was instantly drawn to this book by the cover alone (yes, I am that shallow that I choose a book by its cover) but unfortunately this is a time when picking up a book by the cover alone didn't work.
I liked the overall premise of the story, but I felt it lacked something crucial and the more I read the more I felt that feeling. It's pretty easy to read and I did finish it pretty quickly but I thought that there would be more than there was.
A pretty and simple friends to lovers tory, one which I think would be perfect for those just coming into the genre.,

This book was the description of a wholesome romance. The whole friends to lovers and care taking trope was to die for. The chemistry and genuine love between Avery and Declan was also so well developed and crafted that I devoured this book in one sitting.

Avery is a boy's girl. She lives with her best friend Declan, loves to hang out for football Mondays and plays in a league with Declan and their friends. She also runs an event company with her sisters, which is her pride and joy. Declan and Avery have never tried to have a romantic relationship, however they have always found each other attractive and they haven't been in a serious relationship. When Avery is mandated bed rest and recovery after a terrible accident, Declan becomes her caretaker and they slowly start to become more intimate with each other.

My favorite thing about the story is the intimacy and the genuine love the characters have for each other. You can feel the tension and the friendship that exists between the two and when they cross that line between friends to lovers it was such a delightful feeling.

Both characters are very strong and it was heart breaking to see Avery struggle and Declan blame himself. It was super interesting to see the love Avery has for Declan and how that in turn makes him a better human being, boyfriend and friend. I usually don't like friends to lovers, yet I felt like Helena Hunting did such a good job in portraying a relationship that had been built out of love and respect.

“Thank you for teaching me how to love with my whole heart. I promise I’ll take good care of yours.”

The ending for me was incredible because it was real. They didn't just start dating and all was perfect. They started becoming dependent on each other, which I found to be such a raw and relatable topic. The break up felt necessary and the way that they met and worked on themselves really made my heart full.

While I did enjoy this friends to lovers story - it wasn't necessarily for me. I felt it was a bit drawn out and I kept letting my mind wander as I read the book. I typically enjoy reading Helena Hunting's books, so maybe this just wasn't the book I needed to read at the moment. I look forward to reading what Hunting writes next.

Cute read. Always down for a friends to lovers, but I didn't really connect with Avery and Declan as a couple as much as I wanted. Still, there were lots of sweet moments and many times me laughing out loud.

When Sparks Fly by Helen Hunting is the first book in her Spark House series. Hunting is able to Blend humor and romance as two friends figure out the love of their life has been in-front of them all along. The MCs have explosive chemistry between them and close prolonged proximity opens their eyes to the possibility of becoming more than best friends. Once the cat is out of the bag and things have changed forever the question becomes whether they can deal with the consequences.

Overall, I enjoyed this story and after several years it was nice to see Hunting’s skill as an author has only improved. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book - all thoughts are my own and freely given. 🦄

Absolutely adorable! I loved these characters and this story so much. It pulled at my heartstrings. It made me swoon. It made me sign and it made me blush. I loved every minute of reading this and couldn't put it down. I was lost in these feelings and this story as I was reading and enjoyed the escape this story gave me and more. I will read anything Helena Hunting writes and I can't wait to see what she brings us next. I will definitely be reading.

Avery and Declan. Swoon-sigh. Declan is the playboy, driven to redemption by guilt, and Avery is the business-obsession heroine, forced to rest by an injury. As love blossoms between the two, they'll be put to the test. Five stars, hands down. Great chemistry. Fast-paced plot. Plenty of momentum to keep you turning the pages even when you should be sleeping!

When Sparks Fly is a wonderful friends to lovers love story. Avery and Devon have been friends since college, they even moved in together after moving to Colorado Springs, but they never acknowledged the feelings they had for each other. But an accident forces them to spend more time together, and slowly another type of relationship starts to take life. Being in love with your best friend should be easy, but it's not when he has trust issues and bad role models as parents. It's on the slow burn side, but I found it very entertaining and easy to read. A little bit emotional in the second half, but extremely well written. I love the variety that Helena brings in her books.
A perfect weekend read.

I enjoy reading anything by Helena Hunting and this one was just as good as her other books. Although it was a bit slow in the beginning, but once it took off I was hooked. I enjoy the friends to lovers trope and the relationship between Avery and Declan did not disappoint. Looks like this will be a series, so I'm looking forward to the next story.

When Sparks Fly by Helen Hunting is the first book in her Spark House series. Blending humor and romance, this appears to be a series that you will laugh and have so much fun with.

I really enjoyed the chemistry among the characters in the book. They invite you into their lives and make you want to stay. Besides the friends to romance between Avery and Declan, one of my favorite things about the book is the relationship between Avery and her sisters. It's always great to connect with female characters that make you want to be book friends with them.

Dating is the last thing on Avery Spark's mind. With her plate full, her family owns an event hotel that is operated by her and her sisters, London and Harley. When she's not hanging out with them, she's living her best life with her roommate Declan McCormick and her best friends. Life was all good until one day she gets into a car accident and her world gets flipped upside down.

Sometimes who you are meant to be with is right in front of you but you just don't see it. In this case, they both haven't seen it. Declan is Avery's roommate and best friend. They have a great relationship and a bond that seems unbreakable. When Declan made a bad decision that left him feeling responsible for her accident, he felt the only way to make it up to her was to take care of her. You know what happens when you are in close proximity such as this, the heart grows and speaks loudly and conflicts with the subconscious. Giving into their unspoken attraction, they find themselves on a roller coaster of emotions and consequences that they never anticipated.

Overall, I couldn't get enough of this one. If you are a fan of Helen Hunting, you will will love it. If you haven't read her books yet, jump into to this one. Told from the perspective of Avery and Declan, you get a good grasp of their feelings that give you a chance to get to know them more. I loved the characters and their chemistry was fun and engaging. Honestly, there were so many laugh out loud moments that I couldn't stop reading. I thought this was a good intro to the series and looking forward to diving into Starry Eyed Love.

2 ⭐️ I wanted to like this book- I really did! But that just isn’t how it panned out for me.

Friends to lovers is usually a go to trope for me, but there also needs to be a lot of background and history to the relationship. I don’t like insta love….which is what this felt like.

My main problem issue with this book is how the relationship felt toxic. I didn’t like how the main male character became very possessive and controlling. Yes, there was character growth as we went on but overall it wasn’t enough.

I didn't finish this book. The third act conflict was rather creepy in its execution. The car accident at the beginning of the story was very gruesome. The author went on a killing spree with that one.

I absolutely love Helena Hunting so I was very excited to start a new series by her! When Sparks Fly is the first book in The Spark House series which follows 3 sisters. This first book is Avery and Declan’s story and is a friends to more romance told in dual POV.

Another fun, spicy read by Hunting. I enjoyed the main characters as they grew closer together, but the miscommunication that led to their big conflict didn’t feel realistic to the heroine’s personality. However, I’d still recommend it to contemporary romance fans!

Some of the plot points in this book were a little hard for me to buy into, and the third-act breakup was irrtating, but the way the ending of the book was handled redeemed it for me.
