Your Faith Story Matters
Cofounders of the "My Hope to You" ministry Merlin and Theresa Buhl present the "The Story of My Life in Christ. A Guided Journal", published by Our Daily Bread Publishing. The book wants to take the readers on a 28-day journey treating the questions: 1) How? Telling Your Story, 2) Why? Reasons You Believe, 3) What? Your Faith Statement, and who? Your Special Person. There are two statements in the introduction that I consider very important: 1) Your God story is to be celebrated because it is amazing, and 2) Their story is to be intersected with your story because God wants them to experience His Story. The show that the goal of the guided journal is to explain and to share your faith. Every day has a theme, a focus, a Bible passage, devotional thoughts with an included prayer, and an activity. Every week finishes with a section with tips to apply what the readers learned in the previous week. The authors explain clearly who to use the journal. It is to note that the weeks and assignments go from Sunday to Saturdays and it is useful for readers to follow this set-up since the activity for day 1, e.g., is "go to church."
I appreciate Merlin Buhl's honesty about the challenge with his son in the introduction. Although the book is called a "devotional journal" it is not "normal". It is not for those who look for an ordinary devotional book. It is a book to reflect about ones own faith. It is a workbook and it includes also tips how to use the finished faith story. I recommend the book for readers who want to reflect about their faith story and write it down in such a way that they can share it with others.

The title, The Story of My Life in Christ, may lead you to think that this book is an autobiography. It isn't. Instead it's a devotional book to help you write your own story. Merlin and Theresa Buhl write a unique devotional that is sure to encourage you..

For 28 days you get to think about your relationship with Christ and how you can share it with others. Instead of being preachy you simply share just as if someone were telling you about something or someone they are excited about or love. Everyone has a story.

Each week you focus on a basic question tha begins with a how, why, what or who. Then each day of the week includes a theme, focus, and devotional though followed with an activity. Most activities are reflections on your lie and you jot down thoughts and notes to be used later. Throughout the weeks there are times of retereat when you take your notes and write. At the end of the book there is a complete surprise as to how you can use your notes to complete something beautiful.

This is a wonderful book with a wonderful way to use what you learn. You don't have to be a writer to enjoy it, but you do need time. The daily activities don't take much time, but time for a retreat day is necessary to organize your thoughts.

After reading this book I would suggest that you take your time with it. Even though it says 28 days, it would be beneficial to do each day at your own pace. Some days and activities may take more thought than others and that's acceptable. Go at your own pace, soak it up and leave a legacy for the ones you love.

If you were given a time slot to share your testimony and your faith, this book would really come in useful in helping you chart the elements to talk about. To me, evangelising is about sharing the gospel - God’s love and His plan for salvation, not quite your story though that might make a good aside. I’m glad there are lots of Bible verses and a devotional to help you know what to say about the Good News.

To me, this book would be great for helping me evaluate my own faith for my own reflection and growth.
