I was extremely interested in the premise of this book. A what happens after the fairytale and the real world of being married sets in. While the premise was excellent, I found the story itself just okay. I greatly enjoyed the writing style of the author, but the story was complicated and to fit it all into such a short novella was not something I loved. The first chapter explains their entire history which was somewhat confusing. Then from that point on, you are supposed to know the characters and care about them, but since it is so short I did not fully connect with them. I think this would have benefited from being a duology with the first one being their respective fairytales and falling in love and then this being the sequel. Regardless of my harsh critiques above, I did think the story was cute and I liked their relationship when they came back together. I will definitely check out more of Roshani Choskhi's works.

I didn't realize this was a novella (about 140 pages), or that it was originally released as an Audible original. In fact, after my experiences with Chokshi's other books, I was definitely expecting a lengthy epic fantasy type of thing. Instead, this is a very cute novella about two people who married and then had to make a deal with a witch to make them forget their love. Because they are the king and queen of Love's Keep, which can only be inhabited by a royal couple in love, they have to vacate a year and a day after the deal with the witch, but she shows back up and gives them another offer: go to a wedding and steal a potion from another witch and bring it back to her, and they can have the freedom to live how they want to. Along the way, their attraction grows as they get involved in adventures and misadventures, and this is a romantic comedy so things progress as expected. I was actually kind of sad that it wasn't longer - I would have loved more Imelda and Ambrose.

Wow! I really enjoyed this! The references were adorable and it certainly kept me entertained while reading. I don't usually jump for these kinds of novels, but this was such a great read. Highly recommend for someone looking for a cute, fun read and enjoyable storyline. Characters were great too! I will definitely be picking up more from this author.

This is an unusual fairytale retelling because it combines many fairytales in one. It was a quick and sweet read full of references from many well-known and well-loved fairytales.
I also really enjoyed the writing style of the author.
To be honest this book made me wanting to read the original fairytales that it mentions.

I would like to premise this by saying I absolutely love EVERYTHING this author has published minus this one book. I like the message the book is trying to send but the writing and execution really fell flat. It read more like something written for your 9 thel grade creative writing class. It needed more depth. It maybe made more sense as an audiobook.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was an incredibly delightful novella! It was funny and charming and enchanting in that way that fairytales often are, but it also subverted some typical fairytale tropes in really great and refreshing ways. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick and sweet, but slightly unusual, read with a second-chance romance and great characters!

A charming and fun take on a fairytale. It's perfectly sweet and well written. Roshani Chokshi brought her decadent writing to this little novella and I am glad for it. It made me smile and will be recommending to everyone.

Thank you SourceBooks Casablanca & Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I unfortunately DNF'd this book at 57%. It was becoming extremely painful to read because of how incredibly cringe worthy it was. I was not aware this was a novella until reading some other reviews, but the best way to describe this book is a bootleg Disney movie that makes no sense and trying way to hard too be funny.

I'm extremely disappointed as I've heard amazing things about this author and was really looking forward to reading one of their books. I don't know if the way the book was written intended, but i really did not enjoy what i read and just found it childish and dull.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Ms. Chokshi for the opportunity read an ARC of this title [[[although is it truly an ARC if it was already published, last year, via Audible?]]]. An honest review was requested but not required.

So I did not realize this was a novella when I requested it. Not that I particularly MIND; it was a nice little palate cleanser between full-length books. But I love Ms. Chokshi's books and I would have liked more of it, I guess.

Basically this is a nice little fairy tale retelling of a couple who get a second chance at love. The characterization was decent considering it was a novella, and as per usual the writing was lyrical and smooth. I enjoyed the subversion of most of the fairy tale traditions and tropes, and the slight revisions to several very familiar traditional tales. There wasn't a lot of substance to this story - think a cute little cone of cotton candy: lots of sweet fluff that satisfies your sweet tooth but leaves you ready for another snack soon after. For a novella, though, I think that's ok.

first of all, this was an ARC so no spoilers, and thank you to sourcebooks for sending me this eARC! this was a sweet book but i felt it didn’t have a lot of substance. i felt like i could have become so invested in imelda and ambrose, both as individuals and as a couple, if only they had been a bit more well developed. i felt like the plot served just as a background to character development which is fine, but i felt it left a lot of really interested points unclosed (like the witch’s purpose, and both of their families). overall i didn’t love it but it was a cute, fast-paced read.

I listened to this when it first came out on Audible. A short, sweet and funny story. The horse cloak - my fave!! Definitely a quick pick me up kind of read.

Thanks to Casablanca and to Netgalley for the ARC.

I enjoy Roshani Chokshi's writing, and this book, while a little light on substance, was no different.
This amalgamated retelling of 'fairytale' living is a quick read that is cute and easy. There isn't much to the plot - nor to the main relationship arc, really - and many elements felt too convenient, but I enjoyed the interactions between characters and the relatively fast pace of the story.

It wasn't until after I started reading this story that I realized that it was an audiobook prior to being published as a physical book. From the author of The Gilded Wolves comes an enchanting story about a princess and a prince who are spelled out of love going on a journey together to find their own ways to be free. However, what they discover along the way may make them realize what their hearts truly desire.

This story was short and adorable. Chokshi still manages to fit such a complicated backstory of each character into less than 200 pages and do it with such impact. I could really feel for Imelda and being held back by a controlling father. I could also feel for Ambrose and his need to break free from the expectations his family has for him. They also had some really good scenes between each other that they learn to trust and love each other even though they might not acknowledge it.

I also liked the whimsical feeling of the story. It threw me back to the fairy tales that we read as kids with silly and dangerous encounters but also lingering magic beyond our comprehension. That being said, it made me feel like the story was for a younger audience as a result.

The romance and the chemistry between Imelda and Ambrose was cute, but was it my favorite romance ever? Definitely not. It might be because I'm not a huge fan of the "falling out of love only to be thrown back into love" trope. That being said, I still think it was done really well.

Once More Upon a Time is a short and sweet story you can easily devour in one sitting with an enchanting tale that will whisk you back to your childhood.

I received a copy of this story as an e-ARC from NetGalley. Any and all opinions are my own.

Guys, I devoured this. It was so deliciously magical and twisty, while scratching every itch I have for fairy tales.

★ I get asked all the time, “What do I read after finishing ACOTAR?!” Or “what do I read now that my life has been destroyed by this series!?” This book is now my new answer. It is a wonderful flip on fairytales and includes so many homages and references to the classics.

★ I’m going to definitely listen to this on Audible! I could tell how this started out as an audiobook original and I’m sure it’s even more magical on audio. Some fairytales and fables really are best as a part of oral tradition.

★ I don’t even want to tell you that much more about it because I think it is better if you are in for a surprise. The one thing that I will continue to say, is that the writing is so good. It really did feel like you were sitting around a campfire listening to fairytales. Everything about it was so magical and transported you to another realm, in the most original sense.

This was your standard once-upon-a-time fairytale, with a couple of ultimately unsurprising, but fun, twists. The tale begins with the impending dissolution of a marriage and happily-ever-after, and instead explores what happens next. Recommended for fans of romance and fairytales, or anyone who's amused or charmed by the idea of a cloak that thinks it's a horse, aka my favorite character in the whole tale.
(NetGalley provided me with a digital ARC in return for an honest review.)

I thought this was a cute little fairytale. It was a super quick and easy read. It was a fun adventure with the main characters Ambrose and Imelda.

What a cute, charming and fantastic fairytale romance from Roshani Chokshi. After losing love, Imelda and Ambrose went on a magical journey to get their wishes and ended up getting something else entirely. A happily ever after.

Once More Upon A Time was enchanting and charming to the most efficient level. I liked how Imelda was a princess with her own ideas, her fierce desire for freedom and her unending thirst to experience the world beyond her father's control. I liked how Ambrose was like a prince in his proper ways but at the same time he had a big open heart, sexy charm and all kinds of swooning effect. And my favourite was the witch who entered the narrative from time to time with her witty pov and opinions and witchy manipulations.

Be ready to be charmed and enticed by all kinds of magical creatures, wonderful emotions and adventurous journey in Once More Upon A Time by Roshani Chokshi.

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily provided by Netgalley and Sourcebook Casablanca

First, thank you to @netgalley and @sourcebookscasa for an advanced copy of this book.

Once More Upon A Time by @roshanichokshi was such an enjoyable, fun read! I loved it so much, I wished it had been a full length novel.

Prince Ambrose and Princess Imelda love each other, but their love doesn't last long thanks to a deal made with a witch. This story follows Ambrose and Imelda as they journey together towards the possibility of finding what their hearts truly desire. Along the way, they encounter magical creatures, including a frisky badger and a cloak that believes it's a horse!

I laughed so hard at so many parts of this novella, especially when it came to the "horse". It was such an amazing fairytale with relatable main characters. The enchanted world was vivid and the magic fit into it so perfectly. I highly recommend this for fans of Roshani Chokshi's other work and to all lovers of fairytales.

I'm obsessed with her Gilded Wolves trilogy so I needed to read everything she writes!! I didn't like it as much as her other story, I think it lacked a bit of that magic I fell in love with, but I still really enjoyed this fairy tale!!
