A comic/graphic book about video games?! This book is practically every young person’s dream book! I especially liked how it was organized and the progression through history. Beautiful work.

A basic but good overview of the history of video games. I appreciated the style that calls back to the visuals of comic books, but often felt like the quality of the image didn’t match the sharp design of the text. This was an uncorrected proof so it most likely will be fixed with final images.

I can imagine this book being passed around my classroom! Not only has the author hit upon a very timely and engaging topic (believe me, I've heard all about the latest Fortnite updates recently), he also has written a well-balanced informational text for the middle grade student.

The author takes us on a brief introduction into the history of video game consoles. I do wish it was a bit longer and more in depth. It is a rather brief introduction but it is kept to an appropriate level for middle grade students. Students who are interested could use this as a nice introduction while students who are less into video games would still enjoy learning about the history. The illustrations are bright and engaging. I cannot emphasize enough how much that would help a book to be picked up in the classroom!

All in all, I know this would be a very popular read in my grade 6 classroom!

Video Games by Tulien and Buisán is sure to please readers with a particular affinity for the title topic. I know many students at upper elementary, middle school, and high school level who would find much to enjoy about this book (and I enjoyed it as an adult reader too). Highly recommended for classroom and school shelves.

Meant for younger readers, this is a concise and clear overview of video gaming history. Starting with Pong, it then moves through a selection of consoles (plus the PC and smartphones). It ends on multiplayer gaming, and if I had one bit of criticism, it's that the multiplayer chapter doesn't mention online abuse in some form - you shouldn't have to linger on it, but it is a serious problem, and this text will be mostly read by children.

The book is short and sweet, the illustrations are fun - it does what it says on the tin.

“Video Games. A graphic history” is a really interesting graphic novel. It touches a contemporary theme, video games, and it examines its history up until our time. It is true to its premise and gives the reader a deep and entertaining view in video games. The way it is structured as a comics book gives a timeless point that can appeal both to teenagers and kinds, as well as to older adults who have witnessed the evolution of video games first hand. I can absolutely see this graphic novel be a smash hit and rightfully so. I enjoyed every piece of it and I highly recommend it both to video games fans (as myself) and to those who want to get information about the evolution of a social phenomenon that is omnipresent. I couldn’t stop reading it! This is probably one of the graphic novels every teenager will talk about this year! Great job!

Thank you #NetGalley, publisher and author for the ARC copy in exchange of an honest review!

This was very informative and factual. Unfortunately this graphic novel wasn’t for me but i can see how other people may enjoy it. It talks about when and how video games where created which is good to know but it was really a story like graphic novel.

I really enjoyed this book/graphic novel. It is written and displayed in a comic style format. The illustrations are excellent. The content is straightforward and factually based, and I would estimate that it is pretty good for a primer / beginner book for a young reader into video games. I think the style of this book is its biggest strength, but I also really liked the content. My favorite part was the console wars bit!!

Video Games A Graphic History gives a brief overview of gaming history, from the very first console, the Magnavox Odyssey all the way to the Nintendo Switch. It keeps it simple and uses some wonderful illustrations to highlight many of the milestones in the advance of technology.

Many of the facts included are common knowledge to gamers with an interest, but I did find myself learning a few new things. It's certainly a great starting point for children and teens.
