Sweet story with outstanding illustrations! My granddaughters loved this book as much as I did. It celebrates the way we are the same as much as the ways we are different.

The land puffin is about Pete the parrot who wanted to be a puffin so badly. One day he flew away and joined a group of puffins. This is a cute story for kids, and also teaches self acceptance as well. The illustrations were bright & colorful and perfect for the story.

This absolutely beautiful picture book is going right into the hands of my adorable baby nephew who loves puffins. Such a great little story.

Pete the parrot is a very unique bird. He isn't comfortable being a domestic parrot in a cage doing the things that normal parrots do. He dreams daily of becoming a rugged puffin. The dream becomes a reality as Pete leaves town and heads for the coast to live. Will Pete fit in there?

The circus of puffins greet him warmly and offer him fish, which he dislikes. They invite Pete to swim with them in the ocean, which he declines and they offer silence when Pete wants to have a friendly chat. Oh my, this isn't what he anticipated. He feels that perhaps he is not created to be a puffin after all.

This is a wonderful story about exploring your aspirations even though they may not work out for you. Pete learns a very valuable life lesson. When all is tried and done the best thing to do is to be yourself.

The illustrations are bright and colourful and highlight the landscape and beauty of Newfoundland. This east coast yarn is perfect for beginning readers to tackle. I recommend this book.

The illustrations in this are stunning, as is the story itself. Pete really wants to be a puffin, so he sets out to find puffins. As it turns out, Pete finds he far enjoys being a parrot to what puffins do, so he decides to be himself instead. This is sure to be a bedtime favorite for many children and parents.

Absolutely loved this book. I read this to my 3-year old son and we both enjoyed the pictures and story. I especially loved the contrast, bold lines and coloring of the illustrations were so lovely. I haven't seen this type of art in a children's book. I think this would be a good board book or hardbound.

First: love the concept of a parrot wanting to become a puffin, really cute and hey kids love parrots. However, apart from heading out to where the puffins live, nothing really happened. I think the meaning is too passive to be really effective with kids and the ending does not match the action of the story. Nowhere before the end was the lighthouse visible. I think a lead up of a friendly puffin suggesting the lighthouse or an earlier picture of a number of parrots before him being lighthouse puffins might tie in this ending a little bit better.

Charming read for children, suitable for 5 onwards. It has a nice message about being comfortable in your skin, but also the importance of widening your knowledge.

This is a fun read. Great for all ages. It is funny and has cute illustrations. I recommend this book for children and even adults should get a kick out of it. Light-hearted fun.

Very beautifully illustrated book for a young child. My 5 year old listened, looked and commented but I don't think he would be as interested in this book if he were any older. There are limited words, short story and the pictures do not have a lot of details, although enough to entertain a youngster. This was such a cute book with wonderful illustrations. My daughter adored this book, and since each page only had a few words it really kept her attention.

An absolutely adorable book following Pete, the parrot, as he does what we all do at some time in our lives: he wonders if he's meant for something different, something bigger, something more exotic.

Everyone loves puffins, including Pete. He decides to explore the idea of "becoming" a puffin. However, what Pete finds is that he's not cut out for puffin life. Instead of getting discouraged and giving up his dream, he evaluates and discovers there is a happy medium for him.

The illustrations are bright and eye-catching, perfect to light up little ones' eyes.

The illustrations in this book are gorgeous. They're simple and colorful, which will undoubtedly appeal to children. It's an ultimately uplifting story about accepting yourself for who you are. Parents will appreciate the simplicity of the language. Perfect bedtime book!

A sweet book for young children. I love that it has few words on each page and lots of beautiful illustrations so as not to overwhelm new or struggling readers.

The Land Puffin is the story of a parrot (Scarlet Macaw, by the look of it) name Pete who dreams of being a sea parrot, which is what the Atlantic Puffins are called. One day he decides to fly off to the coast, find a flock of puffins, and join them, but seabird life isn't everything he hoped it would be.

The story is cute and has a good message about learning to embrace who you are rather than trying to live a fantasy, and it's just plain cute. My only complaint about the story aspect is that Pete is shown in somebody's house at the beginning before he leaves to find puffins, and the book ends with Pete happy to hang out in a lighthouse. Doesn't his human family miss him? That's certainly something that would really bother 5-year-old me.

The illustrations are bright and beautiful and very accurately represent St. John's and our beautiful Avalon coast. I've seen other Lori Doody books for sale at places like Posie Row and they're just so perfect! Adorable little stories with beautiful artwork that celebrates the unique beauty and culture of Newfoundland.

I'd like to say I'll be recommending this everywhere, but honestly, it'll already be in front of everyone I could recommend it to. This island loves to promote home grown talent! So instead I'll say now that my daughter is 3 and more interested in books of this length, we'll be investing in Lori Doody books for her very soon.

It's a bit light on words, but overall a very sweet story about being yourself and doing your own thing.

It's a story of a parrot who wants to be a Puffin. Be yourself-figure out how you can stay true to yourself and be happy. I actually loved the Puffins but found the story to be a little odd and just ok. 3 stars

A lovely story with beautiful illustrations. Pete is a Parrot but wants to be by the sea. He joins a circus of puffins but realises that he doesn’t have much in common with them. He then reflects on what he actually does want and finds the perfect solution. A great story for younger children in the classroom with a message of the importance of being yourself, how we all are different but we can get along just like Pete the parrot with his puffin friends. I think this would read well out loud and children would love the parrot speech. I can imagine a few laughs from that part.

What a wonderful, colourful, light-hearted read! A parrot with big dreams. The beautiful illustrations will captivate young readers. There are just enough words on the page to keep the smallest reader's attention too. This makes for a great story for early, learning to read, readers too.
