The book is well researched and written. Sara Gottfried explained very clearly about why women's bodies are the way it is and how hormones play an important role in regulating the overall health. However there was nothing new in the recipes she described. And most of them were not doable for me, probably because I am not mostly into the kind of diet she prescribed.

Interesting seemingly well researched book sharing lots of information and case studies. I'd recommend this book for women curious about the keto diet.

While the word pedantic has negative connotations, it is sometimes the optimal tone for a book designed to guide the reader towards constructing change. Sara Gottfried, a noted physician and health expert, offers dietary advice for hormonal balance in Women, Food, and Hormones. With Keto being a word dominating the diet industry, this buzzword helps to build a guide for balanced eating that yields transformational results. Case studies and personal experience help guide the way for women seeking to overcome the aging process. While the lead-in to the big reveal can be cumbersome, read forward to gain insights into the benefits of dietary change. There is a lot of background to get through before the book reveals its secrets.

This book was heavily researched, and at times honestly overwhelming.
I appreciate the approach to a specialized program for women and hormones. The program is broken down into phases. Initially I was thinking yes this is some thing I totally can commit to and would do. But as I read on, it just seemed confusing. My favorite part of the book was the recipes and resources section. I think it would have been better with more practical, actionable items than all of the information for the first 50% of the book. A little overdone. If you’re looking to apply a low carb diet, and intermittent fasting, then this is for you. Nothing earth shattering here.

A good book talking about The kept diet and Womens hormones. Interesting facts and good information.
Thanks netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

This was not my favorite book my Sara Gottfried. The first couple of chapters repeat a lot of the same things over and over. They seem to be fluff instead of just getting to the diet and protocol. Once I did get to the diet it seems like a regular keto diet to me.

From the title of this book I didn't realize it was going to be just about moving to a low carb diet. If you are new to keto and trying to get started this book might be worth a read for you. If you are looking for information on hormones and aren't interested in going low carb this book isn't for you.

After learning so much from Dr. Gottfried’s THE HORMONE CURE, I did not think twice about putting her THE HORMONE RESET DIET into practice. In fact, I lost 9 pounds doing that reset. Still, more than that, my thyroid levels were finally within the NORMAL range for the first time after my thyroidectomy in over 20 years!

In WOMEN, FOOD, AND HORMONES, Dr. Gottfried continues to tackle the distinctive hormonal needs of females. While I do not set up residency in any nutrition camp, I picked up some beneficial insights to incorporate into my daily nutrition practice. I highly recommend reading it, sharing it, and putting it into practice with your girlfriends. ~jeni b~

Great solid advice. Sara does well at delivering critical information that isn’t always what you want to hear. I will be trying the advice given and look forward to more by this author.

It's hard to say that I "enjoyed" a book about the Keto diet but I did enjoy this book. Gottfried's writing hit the right blend of scientific research and readability. She successfully translated the nuts and bolts to make her Protocol applicable to the average woman. I did feel that Part 1 could have been shorter. It dragged a bit because I was so eager to get to Part 2. I look forward to trying her protocol and start "talking" to my hormones.

Her four-week plan, included in her book, and her recipes and resources will help you achieve your goal. This well-researched, informative book is a wonderful resource and one I know I will refer to often.

Personal Review:
I had not really considered the differences in diet based on gender before this book. It was interesting to understand the information behind this approach. My favorite part was the recipes at the end. Thank you for the opportunity to read it!

Disclaimer: I was awarded this book from Net Galley. Though I did not pay for the book, the opinions are strictly my own.

Happy Reading!

Such a great book to gather information, learn about your body (as a woman) and to eat to gain strength in yourself. I truly enjoyed reading this book and gaining such knowledge that gave me new perspectives on food, its affects on our female bodies and how to feed ourselves to gain control and power from within.

Thank you Sara Gottfried, Netgalley and the publisher, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for my complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book really gave me a lot of insight as to why I wasn't losing weight on Keto. It provided really extensive research and easy to follow explanation about how to think about hormones during middle aged. I recommend it totally for that reason. However, if you are looking for recipes and are a picky eater, this is not a place to look. While a few gave me some good ideas, it was hard to find something for a semi-vegetarian. The recipe section was smaller than I expected (with the annotations taking up more pages than the recipes). I just felt this book could have had more recipes with more variety. So 3 stars for all the work and research though!

Being in my late forties, hormonal imbalances are something that is top of my mind. I was very interested to find out more with this book. The book does go into a lot of detail about hormones and their role in the body as well as effects of any imbalances. It is predominately a diet book, Sara Gottfried advocates a keto diet along with intermittent fasting. I did find the book a bit 'all or nothing' but I have taken some useful information from it.

A great keto and intermittent fasting plan if you’re interested in that. This book is pretty long, but you can hand jump around if you need to and figure out what’s best for you. If you feel inspired by this, talk to your doctor first!
