I enjoyed this book for the most part. The pacing of the story was excellent, and I enjoyed the alternating timelines. It really made me want to keep reading. However, the plotline of Scarlett and her family kidnapping Tallulah and keeping her on a yacht for months was too outlandish to be believable, Sophie seemed very disconnected from the rest of the story, and I think the overall ending was too abrupt.

Overall. This novel was a win for me. I really enjoyed it. I will be completely honest....it was slow goings in the beginning. I get it....the story had to be set up. If you get to the point you wanna quick. I would encourage you to keep going. It's worth it.

A young mother and her boyfriend go missing after a night on the town! Lisa Jewel weaves three points of view and countless intricate details into a story full of intrigue that had me staying up far too late into the night! I enjoyed the slow-burning mystery, and gathering bits and pieces of the puzzle as I read. The characters are well-developed and descriptions of the settings and scenery are vivid and expressive. All of the plots and details came together seamlessly in the end. Although the ending was satisfying, I did shed some tears.

The middle of the story began to drag and could have used some editing, but I would certainly recommend the book to others, and will definitely be reading more from this author! Thank you NetGalley, Lisa Jewel, and Atria Books for the advanced digital review copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Overall I liked the plot and felt this was a unique story that did not have recycled plot elements like many mystery books. My criticism would be that there were way too many side plots in the second half. The first half re-visits the main events of the night of the disappearance and background of Zach and Tallulah's relationship ad nauseam. We don't need to hear Sophie have the same conversation with multiple people (or in Liam's case, several times). The second half of the book had so many extra situations that I did not feel I knew the characters well enough except Sophie, Kim, Scarlett, Zach, and Tallulah. Lexie, Mimi, Kerryanne, Scarlett's family, and even Liam were not developed enough for me. The situations in the second half of the book were rushed. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the story itself, just that I wish the book had been longer or more spread out.

Lisa Jewell is my queen! I love every single one of her thrillers and mysteries because they keep me on the edge of my seat and this was no exception. The characters the atmosphere and the twist were all amazing! Five out of five stars for Lisa Jewell again!!!

After a party at a large English estate, a woman and her boyfriend seemingly disappear into thin air. A year later a mystery writer moves into a nearby cottage. When she finds a note that simply says “dig here” it appears to be a clue that might lead to an explanation of what happened the night the couple vanished.

Lisa Jewell has written an enjoyable mystery with a cast of interesting characters and a setting that lends itself to the tension and twists of the story. While I have enjoyed Lisa Jewell’s previous books, as I did this one as well, there is one scene where the main character belatedly recognizes a key element that appears to be directly related to the missing couple.

My description of this portion of the book is intentionally vague in order to avoid revealing an element of the plot. However, it was hard for me to fathom that the protagonist didn’t recognize this link much sooner than she did. As a result, it didn’t ring true for me. This is the reason I’m giving The Night She Disappeared three stars. Nevertheless, I will certainly continue to be a fan of Lisa Jewell’s and I’m looking forward to her next book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

Happy pub day to one of my auto-buy authors! Lisa Jewell’s books are so fun and the perfect domestic mystery/thrillers.
Her latest ‘The Night She Disappeared’ is no exception.

Jewell tells the story of a young mother who goes missing after a night out through several points of view. All great characters and perfect pacing that kept me turning to the last page (seriously. I read this one in a day lol)

Once again Lisa Jewell keeps you on your toes weaving multiple points of view with twists and turns. When teenage mom Tallulah heads out on her date her mother Kim watches the clock and as the late hours of the evening turn into the early hours of the morning, Tallulah failing to return. Two years later, a walk in the woods will start to surface clues of this cold case.

You really can't go wrong with a Lisa Jewell thriller. The Night She Disappeared is right up there!
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for my eARC for review!
Devoted teen parents Tallulah and Zach go missing after an evening at a pub. Tallulah's mother Kim takes over care of their son Noah, working through her despair to keep the search for them active.
Alternating chapters bring us into Sophie's story, a thriller author and newcomer to the area a year after the disappearances, and witness to a new set of clues.
As with other Lisa Jewell books, seemingly "normal" individuals and families are not as they appear on the surface.
The pacing of this one starts out strong and develops slowly, then races toward resolution. Some nice character development and reveals make this another worthwhile thriller and keep Lisa Jewell as an auto-read author for me. Recommended!
Released on Sept. 7.

Multiple points of view, multiple timelines, nothing in this book is linear and I loved it! A crime writer moves into the countryside with her partner who has just taken a head teacher position. A year earlier, a local teen mother and her boyfriend disappeared, leaving their infant son behind. One day, there is a sign in the writer's garden, "Dig Here." So she does and the tight-knit community gets turned upside down.

As with other Lisa Jewell books, the reader is allowed only bits and pieces of information at a time and will make up their mind, change it, and make up their mind again. And just when you think it's all come to a conclusion, think again.

My thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Imagine going to a party at the most luxurious, if not imposing, mansion in your community. . . but then never being seen again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

Unlike the last few #LisaJewell titles I have read, this one really took it’s time laying out the ground work for the mystery. We learn early on that Tallulah & her ex/current boyfriend, Zach, are having problems, and that he is MUCH more attached than she is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
About a year later, a new couple moves into town and very quickly clues start popping up around their property, suggesting that someone does have information about the night they disappeared. Lucky for us, one character writes detective novels for a living and has a keen eye and interest to figure out this mystery.

#TheNightSheDisappears was a bit predictable; I think most readers will identify the culprit pretty early on, but as always, the means and method always take a bit to figure out. Another solid read from a favourite author.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

In 2017, 19-year-old and new mom Tallulah goes on a date with her boyfriend but doesn't return from her night out. Her mother, Kim, begins the search for Tallulah, where she was last seen and with whom. Two years later, a clue to Tallulah's disappearance--a note with "Dig Here" posted on her fence--is found by crime-mystery writer, Sophie. And so the case of the disappearance of Tallulah and her boyfriend is re-opened and many more secrets emerge.

This book jumps back and forth between 2017 and 2019. It was pretty easy to keep track of the timeline based on the setting and characters present. I enjoyed the twists and turns as clues came up and readers learn more about Tallulah's background and relationship. A great mystery novel that truly emersed me in the story and surprised me at the end.

My latest read is The Night She disappeared by Lisa Jewell! Lisa Jewel is one of my all time favorite authors and I know i’ve shared her books on the podcast before, so my anticipation was high for this one. She generally comes out with a book a year and they are always solid stories. In The Night She Disappeared, you have 19 year old Tallulah. She’s a young mother in a tumultuous relationship with the father of her child, Zack. She’s trying, though, and one night she and Zack go out on a date and leave their baby with Tallulah’s mother Kim. Kim is totally for it and encourages them to have fun, but when the couple doesnt come home she begins to panic. Kim is calling around to Tallulahs friends- and no one knows where they went. Zack’s mother doesnt seem at all concerned, and it’s not until days later when the couple still isnt home that they begin to accept they might really be gone. There’s another perspective- set 2 years later- of Sophie. She is dating the head-teacher of a nearby boarding school and is new to the country town. She’s talking a walk in the woods behind their house and finds a note fixed to a tree that says ‘dig here.’

As I said, I really really liked this. I switched between audio and print and I really liked the audio. The story felt very British- from the accents to the school setting to the countryside. This is a slower burn that takes a bit to build, but I personally got sucked in right away. One timeline was slightly more interesting than the other, in my opinion, but I really loved how the author took what seemed on the surface like a random person in the neighborhood and drew her into the story. She gives the reader enough clues so that you can try and solve the mystery of what happened to Tullulah and Zack, and there were plenty of curveballs that I didn’t see coming. I enjoyed the ending -This was my favorite book of hers since Then She Was Gone in 2017.

An abandoned mansion AND a cold case? Sign me up! This was a whirlwind of a novel - a little slow in the middle of the novel, but packed a punch in the end. She does the two timelines really well which is saying something from a person who isn't a huge fan of alternating timelines and perspectives. This is the perfect book to pick up on a chilly fall evening this season.

I am a huge Lisa Jewell fan! Her books are always great in my opinion. This one is no different. Here are my pros and cons for The Night She Disappeared:

Pros

1. One of my favorite things about Lisa Jewell is how she weaves her tales. I love how she incorporates different perspectives (sometimes from seemingly uninvolved characters), uses various timelines, and slowly reveals the story to the reader in an exquisitely calm yet exciting manner.
2. She also has an incredible ability to describe her scenes with gorgeous detail without being verbose. This makes me feel like a part of her story, rather than just a reader.
3. This story was a slow burn, but detailed and interesting enough to keep me interested throughout. I loved how the truth about what happened was slowly revealed.
4. I really connected with Tallulah. The story told from her perspective (leading up to her disappearance) was probably my favorite part of the book.
5. I particularly appreciated how the book explored how different people have different perspectives about truth. What you see or what you are told isn’t always what is happening.

Cons

1. I loved Sophie (a person unrelated to the disappearance but helped solve the case), but I do wish her storyline had been a bit more developed. I guess I wanted to know a bit more about her, even though the story wasn’t about her.

Summary
Lisa Jewell is an auto-read for me. I love everything about her stories – plots, development, characters, atmosphere, twists, etc. This book fits well into her oeuvre and I think anyone who enjoys a good mystery would enjoy this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author/publisher for an electronic ARC, which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

The writing has momentum and I did want to find out what happened to Lula...."I most liked the.supporting character Sophie, cozy detective
series writer ..I am sure I’d enjoy her fictitious books. Concurrently I watched the movie Gemini the perfect neo noir and. a much better time to be had. I mostly object to the weak dsturbed and less than credible stable of female characters..

Sometimes this author is hit or miss for me. Jewel hits a home run with this one. I was definitely hooked from the beginning of this thriller. The story unfolds in alternating chapters of the current day and the time before a young woman does indeed disappear. Early on, some characters are introduced that feel extraneous, but they become very important to the plot. This became a book I thought about when I wasn't reading it. I would be thinking about when I would get a chance to read it next. That's a true sign of a book that has hooked you! Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this title.

This was a very suspenseful domestic thriller that kept me guessing until the very end. I loved the pacing and the way it would switch between present day and the previous year when the girl and her boyfriend disappeared without a trace. It was well written and had a great ending, as well. Highly recommend for thriller fans!
