Lisa does it again, with multiple POVs and quick chapters, I couldn’t get enough of this book. I was engaged from start to finish without a guess of how things would end. She continues to be one of my favorites and can’t wait to see what genius things she writes next.

Lisa Jewell never disappoints! This story begins with the mysterious disappearance of a young mom and her boyfriend. This planned date night seemed like a perfectly respectable evening after the birth of their son but it ends as unexpected as you could imagine.

Talula and Zac, high school sweethearts now young parents to Ollie seem happy now after a rough patch. Zac seems to be planning for their future together but as the story unravels, readers learn quickly that Talula has different plans and Zac is pretty much a jerk.

When they didn’t come home after that date night Kim, Lula’s mom, panics and begins calling around to see if anyone has heard from them. But one day turns into weeks tunes into months. Where are they? What happened that night?

Like every good thriller, each and every character harbors secrets. But, whose secrets ultimately lead to Zac and Lula’s unfortunate disappearance that night? Are they alive? Will Kim get to the bottom of thud mysterious night?

This was an interesting mystery with a few different perspectives. I enjoyed getting Tallulah’s view of things that happened leading up to the night she and her boyfriend disappeared. I thought this was a quiet mystery, maybe quieter than I would like. The parts where they were investigating what happened seemed so slow to me, almost as though there was no urgency in locating Tallulah and Zach. I wasn’t a fan of Sophie’s POV. She added nothing to the story, I didn’t like that she was just some stranger and she inserted herself into the story and her character was never fully developed.

The story with Tallulah, Zach and Scarlet had my full attention though as tension in those sections kept building until the climax. The ending had an awesome twist, though I thought it was a bit abrupt and the epilogue was unnecessary. Good read though!

This is a solid enjoyable mystery. It's told from multiple pov's and dual timelines which makes it slightly confusing but it still flows well for the story to make sense. I thought it was a bit too long and dragged on in parts. And the premise was somewhat far-fetched, which brought on some eyerolling on my part. I didn't relate much to the teenage characters so maybe it would be better for ya readers but I still think many will like it as a good mystery.

Another stunner from Lisa Jewell! Jewell has quickly become my favorite contemporary writer. She cannot fail in my opinion! Perfectly paced, perfectly plotted.

Tallulah and Zack are teenage parents who go on a "date night", and never return. Tallulah's mother, Kim, is frantic and knows something horrible must have befallen them. A mystery writer moves in to the local boarding school with her Head Teacher significant other and quickly starts piecing together pieces of the mystery. Was Zack the loving partner Kim thought he was? Where did Tallulah go on her long Sunday bike rides? Lisa Jewell does it again. This book cannot be put down until all of your questions are answered!

First line: The baby is starting to grumble.

Summary: 2017: Tallulah Murray, a nineteen year old mother, goes out with her boyfriend to the neighborhood pub for dinner. The next morning her mother, Kim, finds that neither one of them have come home. Kim knows that Tallulah would never abandon her baby son. As she talks with Tallulah’s friends she find out that they were last seen at a party at Dark Place, a manor house outside the small village.

2018: Sophie Beck has just moved into a little cottage on the grounds of a private boarding school. Her partner is the new head teacher while Sophie is a mystery novelist. As Sophie explores her new home she finds a sign in their garden with the words, “DIG HERE”, written on it. As she digs she uncovers a missing link in the mystery of the disappearance of Tallulah Murray.

My Thoughts: I enjoyed this book from the beginning until the end. Normally the time jumps can be confusing but since each time had a different narrator that made it easier to follow. The end was excellent. I was on the edge of my seat, trying to finish it as fast as I could. And of course, that’s when my dog decided he needed to go outside!

I liked the characters of Tallulah and her mother Kim. Sophie felt like more of a filler character to help solve the mystery. She was the like her characters in her book which the comparison is drawn in the books as well. Her part felt more cozy. But I think Jewell did a great job of bringing Kim’s pain and Tallulah’s struggles out. They were relatable and I could sympathize with them as their lives changed through the story. After Jewell’s last book I was hoping that this one would be much more entertaining. Thank goodness it was!

FYI: Audio book was read by Joanne Froggat (Anna Bates from Downton Abbey).

Lisa Jewell is an auto read author for me and The Night She Disappeared did not disappoint!

This story is told in three different timelines — during these different times in the story there are multiple POV’s. I had a few theories about how this one ends up but none of my theories even came close. Lisa Jewell is definitely one of the queens of suspense thriller. Great writing, great plot, and great characters. I highly recommend this book! 🙌🏼

Tallulah and her boyfriend, Zach, go out on a date, leaving their young son Noah behind with her mom, Kim. Kim waits up for Tallulah, but she never comes back. As Kim tries to find out what happened to her daughter, whom she knows would never leave Noah behind, she learns she was last seen at a party at house in the woods, called the Dark Place.

Two years later, Sophie moves to a boarding school where her boyfriend, Shaun, has just started to work as head teacher. As she explores the woods, she sees a note reading "Dig Here." A writer, Sophie starts investigating. Her sleuthing will take her into the world of the Dark Place and Tallulah's disappearance.

"With a racing heart and a sickening swirl in the pit of her stomach, she calls the police and she files a missing persons case."

This is an excellent thriller, hands-down. I read the second half in one sitting, because I was completely and totally sucked in. This is a mystery, but it has a ton of character to it--because the characters, ha, are real and vibrant people, with their own quirks, issues, and struggles that add an an extra element to the story. Tallulah, especially, is a nuanced character, a young mother struggling to find her place in the world, with her boyfriend, her friendships, and as a parent and student.

NIGHT is quite twisty--this read will keep you guessing. It's well-written, extremely dark (be prepared), and just well-done overall. It balances thrilling and characterization perfectly. I often hate when a "regular" character decides to be a sleuth, but Sophie, as a crime writer, was fine in the role. I loved Tallulah (extremely great, because she's missing, so Jewell gets us attached to a character who is gone and whose POV is told through the past). The book is complex, giving us insight into motherhood, relationships, friendship and more.

Overall, this was a winner for me.

3.5 stars. This is my second Lisa Jewell book and I can confidently say I enjoy her books. This one is a page-turner, and even though you can see the solution to the mystery early on, you still want to keep reading to see how it all plays out. It’s a lot like Watching You in tone, but this book is a bit more of a mystery instead of a domestic drama. Overall it’s a solid mystery about two teen parents who go missing in a small town, and the secrets hidden under the surface of a seemingly sleepy existence. Highly recommend if you like mysteries with a slower-burn and the domestic thriller genre.

This was such a gripping thriller. In typical Lisa Jewell fashion, the twists were unpredictable and the characters were well developed. The ending wrapped up a little too neatly for my liking, but it was still believable! I really enjoyed this one.

The Night She Disappeared
by Lisa Jewell
Pub Date: September 7, 2021
Atria Books

I have read many Lisa Jewell books and I believe this one is my favorite. I became so attached to the characters and I could not stop reading until I found out what happened. The plot is like so many: a daughter goes missing and her distraught mother will do anything to find her. But that is where the comparison ends. There are twists and turns. Hold on to your seat!
I highly recommend this book!

This was an okay read with suspense and intrigue but the story moves slowly and I found myself skimming. Kim is watching her grandson for daughter, Tallulah and her boyfriend. Two years later a note is found in a garden that reads, Dig here. They find a key that leads to the body of Tallulah's boyfriend. The police now keep digging to see if they can find her, dead or alive. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Though I have The Truth About Melody Brown on my TBR pile, this is my first Lisa Jewell read - and I guarantee it won't be my last ! The Night She Disappeared draws you in right away, both with the mystery and the backstory leading up to it. I loved the short chapters, alternating POVs and timelines, which all helped build the suspense. And the ending did not disappoint. A ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read that I highly recommend !

Well written with just enough twists. Young mum Tallulah and her boyfriend Zack going missing after a date night that ends up a pool party at the mysterious residence known as “the Dark Place”. Tallulah’s mum, Kim, spends over a year looking for her daughter when one day a new clue sheds light on the cold case waiting to be solved. The plot is a slower burn but gives enough to still hook the reader. The ending needs more explanation and a slower roll out - built anticipation from the first 70% of the book gets stamped out quickly with a mediocre ending.

Unfortunately, this one didn’t work for me. I found it to be too much of a slow burn and I just really didn’t get into it. 😬

This is definitely the year of amazing releases! I cannot get enough with this years mystery thrillers! I love Lisa Jewell’s writing, she’s definitely a must read author for me! She absolutely nails it with every book! And always brings something different to the table!!

This fast paced mystery follows a mother daughter relationship, after the daughter goes missing, and the mother will stop at nothing until she finds out the whereabouts of her daughter. The story is laid through multiple timelines, and points of views, a perfect blend of who’s who, when and where.

There’s definitely a lot of backstory, and a lot of details to keep up with, it’s mostly fast paced, but there are some great slow burns that will keep you on your toes.

Don’t sleep on any of Lisa Jewell’s books, amazing reads!!

When 19-year-old Tallulah and her live-in boyfriend go missing, Kim knows that something awful must have happened. Tallulah would never leave her one year old son behind. A year later, a detective novelist moves into the village where Tallulah and Zach disappeared. She finds a strange sign outside of her home, and shrugs it off, but is it possible that this sign holds the key to finding out what happened to the two young parents?

Lisa Jewell is consistently brilliant. I have yet to be disappointed by any of her titles. This book has well-rounded characters, intriguing plotlines, and a mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

One of the things I really like about this book is the use of time jumps in building the suspense. The story is told from three different perspectives and in three different time periods. While this can be a bit disorienting for readers if they’re not familiar with this, it really helps to fill out the story and build connections between the different plot lines. I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
