A bit too much happening, and I wasn't prepared for 'they are grandparents' angle. Nothing against older couples in romance, but the cover and the blurb did not indicate this - I thought this would be a cute chick-lit with younger characters getting a second chance, but this one stretched it much farther and it wasn't what I wanted to settle down with. Also, too much going on and it felt very passive at times
This was my first book by this author, It was pretty enjoyable. I would give this book a 3.5 star rating! It was a pretty Quick and easy read!
A light, fun and very well written story. I definitely want to read other books by the author. The characters are charismatic and the story is very beautiful.
enjoyed this book and will read more from this author. Enjoyed all aspects of this book. I will try to find more of these author books. Go and read it.
Personal shopper Tess O'Neill is everybody's Go-To Girl. Finding the right thing for a client is a no-brainer. Fixing her own life? That's a different matter because Tess can't seem to get over her charming ex-husband...
A heartwarming reunion of first loves! THE GO-TO GIRL by Leigh Riker quickly stole my heart when I met Tess and Grady. The characters are flawed but redeemable and their love is super sweet.
The main characters are captivating as you anxiously wait for them to reunite. The cast is equally enjoyable with two additional relationship troubles with Tess’s son and another with her co-worker. Dilly,
There are scenes that will make you smile and laugh, and add in plenty of drama. This women’s fiction book with a good spark of romance is a must read.
This was a good, light read.
The characters were relatable and likeable. However the story was not so gripping.
Would recommend this book if you are a fan of fluffy romances.
The Go-To Girl by Leigh Riker has so many of the right elements for a light, escapist read: heroine whose personal shopping business drops her smack into the best and the finest goods money can buy -- if only that were what she really wanted. What she really wants is to reconcile with her deadbeat ex-husband. That's the initial set-up anyway. I don't know how it works out, but if I had to guess, they do reconcile and she does get the house and home she wants and along the way there are escapades, mishaps, lost kittens, all the things that are expected in the light, frothy, escapist story. I don't know how it goes, because I stopped reading early on. I appreciate the premise, but the delivery did not work for me. I received an advance reader copy of this novel in exchange for my unbiased review.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. This book was okay. I really didn't fall for any of the characters. It has nothing to do with "older" main characters falling in love etc. Perfect for those who are wanting and easy light hearted read.
I don't have much to say about "The Go-To Girl" as I think that many people will find this book very enjoyable, however, I do not believe that I am the target audience and therefore did not find this to my liking. I have read many reviews of this book which prove that this can be a great read for many and so I can say certainly that this is NOT a bad book, just not for me.
I adore the cover. It’s colorful and cheerful. Tess is Miss Fix It. She tries to fox everyone else’ life— her father’s, her son’s marriage, but she draws the line with aiding her ex. His gambling habit destroyed their marriage and she is steering clear of that. Or is she? Grady is trying to redeem himself in her eyes, but it may be an Insurmountable task. I did feel irritation when she kept giving her father money, knowing full well he would just gamble it away. Sometimes people deserve second chances, but then again, many times they don’t. Read The Go To Girl to see who gets one.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the ARC, all thoughts are my own.
The Go-to Girl is the perfect blend of chick-lit & second romance.
Personal Shopper Tess is perfectly happy with her career but she can't get over her charming ex-husband.
Grady is a recovering Gambler who is still in love with Tess & hopes to win her back.
This story had aspects of love, heartbreak & humour to it.
It's about a fresh start & knowing what your heart wants.
To sum to up- A very light & easy read!
Tess is a grandmother and a personal shopper who is still trying to get over her ex-husband Grady, a recovering Gambler. And Grady who still loves Tess is hell-bent on mending his relationship with her. At the same time, her son Ethan and his wife Chloe are also facing issues in their relationship and Chloe decides to live with Tess for some time.
Even though Tess still has feelings for Grady, his past with Gambling stops her from giving him a second chance. Will Tess and Chloe give their husbands a second chance and start their relationships afresh?
This was a very good romantic story with a bit of humour to it. The heartbreak, emotions, relationships and addiction issues are tackled really well. And it was a very light read which you can finish in one sitting.
The narration was good and the plot was enjoyable. Tess's granddaughter Dolly was adorable and the way Tess handles her relationship along with other people's is very interesting to read. I liked the story very much and I recommend it to everyone who loves this genre.
Thanks Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a second chance story, but I felt guilty rooting for the second chance. Everything in me felt like she should walk away and recover from the heartbreak, not give him the second chance. They love each other, but is love enough to make a go of things?
The go to girl - Leigh Riker
Pub by - Leigh books
TW - Gambling, addiction, second chances
Plot - Tess O Neill , grandmother and a personal shopper can't get over her ex husband Grady who is a recovering gambler. But Grady loves Tess and will do anything to win her back even quitting gambling and attending regular meetings..
Tess son Ethan and his wife Chole are also facing issues and Chloe is living with Tess.
Can Tess forgive Grady and give him a second chance?? Will Grady be able to successfully quit gambling and win her back?
MY THOUGHTS-
There are 2 stories running parallel which doesn't make it monotonous . Each character has a flaw and they all need to accept and make amends in order to go forward in life..this is what I like making it more realistic as they are quite common issues.
Inspite of serious issues it was a light read and was able to finish it in a day
The only thing was I was disappointed with the description provided as it didn't mention anything about Tess being a grandmother and about issues between her son and daughter-in-law.
Otherwise a quick feel good book!
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion
I enjoyed this novel. It is very family-centric, even if that family has a lot of flaws and each character is a mess in their own way. I feel like every family has their issues and none of us are perfect so that worked for me. There was also a lot of self-recognition happening, opportunities for growth
second chances, and reconciliation. I appreciated that the characters had to accept themselves and move forward before any real lasting changes could be made as a whole. It was not the most dynamic thing I've read (and keep in mind this is my personal opinion and no discredit) - so not the most dynamic, but it filled a space and kept me entertained .
Tess doesn’t know if she can trust Grady, will he earn her trust again, can she believe that he’s changed.
This romance, for me, wasn’t easy to read-very drawn out, didn’t really hold my interest and I struggled to keep reading.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read this book on my kindle to review for Net Galley.
Tess is a grandmother and also known as The Go To Girl. Her ex husband Grady is a recovering gambler and her father is also a gambler. It is obvious that Grady and Tess still have feelings for each other even after all they have been through. The gambling from the past stops Tess from giving the relationship a second chance. One day Tess has a reoccurring feeling from when Grady used to Gamble. Even though Grady tells her he wasn't where he thinks he was, Tess still didn't believe him until he told her he went to a place that can help him and her father recover from gambling.
Her daughter in law Chloe shows up at her door one day after leaving her son Ethan. Ethan does not have a gambling addiction, but he has another addiction called his I-phone. Ethan works with his dad Grady. He works long hours to get the business to a place where they feel they can hire more workers and provide for his family. The cell phone got in the way of his and Chloe's relationship. Will Chloe and Tess give their men a second chance?
This is a heart warming romance story. I rated it a 3 because there were some times in the story I felt were unrealistic which can be expected in a romance story but I felt like that could have been part of the reason why it took me longer than it should have for me to read this book as it wasn't very long. I like that for the most part the book was written very clean except for a few sex scenes. I wouldn't recommend a kid in school to read this book, but I still recommend this if you are looking for a light romance story to read.
This is a sweet story about family, love, and second chances. Themes of addiction and enablement as well as forgiveness and reconciliation develop throughout the story, and though the final resolution seems a bit sudden, that may be inevitable in a book of this length. The characters are believable and sympathetic and the writing flows well. The relationships between spouses, and those between parents and children, are satisfyingly developed. Altogether an enjoyable read.
I think this book is a really great book - for someone else. It is written really well, and the characters have a lot of personality & are well developed, but I just couldn't connect with them, which is really unfortunate because I really wanted to. Now, that is of no fault of the author, this was me trying to push past my "normal" reading habits and try a new book in a new genre, and unfortunately this one didn't connect with me. This book is great for people who love non-traditional romance books, books with older leads, people in later stages of their lives - all things that I don't normally read. Due to the fact that I don't normally read things like this I can't give a fair review of whether this is a good/bad book for this genre, I can just say that this wasn't my personal cup of tea. I recommend this book to people who read this genre and think this description sounds good, because it is written very well and it isn't overly long - there are many high reviews that prove that it is good - but for me, this will be one I probably won't pick up again. And that is ok, that is the joy of books, not everything is for everyone.
It's a cute story! It's a cute story! It's a cute story! It's a cute story! It's a cute story! It's a cute story! It's a cute story!
