Loved the story of redemption and second changes. Lots going on with the main characters in this story. It felt so good to cheer for changing your life, taking chances, and finding happiness. Hard to read about the hardships and problems the characters go through before they decide to take control of changing their lives. Alcoholism is such an illness.

A haunting portrait of alcoholism, resilience and Hope. Cass has been on her own, in foster homes and somewhat lost since she was a teenager. She was in love with brilliant Ben and the two of them drifted in an Abyss of alcoholism. When Ben dies, leaving Cass homeless, alone and pregnant she turns to Ben’s brother, a baseball player for the Boston Red Sox for help in her darkest hours.
.
This is a deeply dark story, but a story of hope, healing and help in places you never expect.

CATCH US WHEN WE FALL is a moving read about addiction, family, and recovering. After the death of her long-term boyfriend, Ben, Cass feels set adrift. Her alcoholism had taken over her life, and it was no different at his funeral - that is, until she found out she was pregnant with Ben's baby. She quit drinking and needed help to take the next steps to get her life clean. Although she was reluctant to do so, she asks Ben's brother, Scott, for help. Scott is a third baseman for the Red Sox and quite the baseball player; his tolerance for Ben was limited, but surprisingly, he does not say no when Cass asks for help.

As Cass enters rehab and then continues her sobriety out in the real world, her life feels better - though nothing comes easily. The book follows her journey through pregnancy to fight her addiction, stay clean, and create roots for herself, with the baby's uncle and those she meets through AA.

This was an absolutely riveting and compelling read. It tackles a lot of tough themes around addiction, domestic (and past child) abuse, assault, family, friendship, and challenges of pregnancy and delivery. The book holds nothing back, and Cass's story is a truly powerful and moving one. The writing felt raw and genuine, capturing the struggle, the recovery, and the constant fight against the addiction. Hard days and easier ones. Other characters, such as her neighbors and friend Kate, are also really compelling. Scott also becomes a central figure as they spend time together, and Cass's story with him evolves beautifully - with lots of ups, downs, and everything difficult in between.

This is not an easy read, but it is certainly unputdownable. Between the compelling characters and heavy themes, CATCH US WHEN WE FALL is an emotional and thought-provoking read that challenges the readers perceptions of addiction, family, and struggle.

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Catch Us When We Fall really caught me off guard-- a novel about recovery, hope and family-- which is both dark and hopeful. Juliette Fay gets us in deep with her characters, three women bonded by addiction who become supportive friends. Their journey to recovery is slow, complicated and realistically portrayed. . The main character Cass, a self-described drunk for a decade' is the heart of the story. When She loses her boyfriend to alcohol poisoning and finds herself pregnant, she turns to the brother of her boyfriend for help. Scott, a professional baseball player is a wonderful character and I was happy to see this sort of stand up guy portrayed in women's fiction. If you have addiction in your circle of friends or family, you will see some familiar scenes and patterns. If you don't, the insight will be real. Plus, a wonderful story.

At times, hard to read. Alcoholism is a disease and it is not pretty. I appreciated how they showed the impacts to all the characters and the development of the characters as the book went along! Thank you NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub day Sept 21!

This story delivered an emotional, gut wrenching look into the life of alcoholism and recovery. The focus was a look into what it would take for the main character, Cass, to stay healthy and get on her feet before she brings a baby into this world. While I felt deeply scared and sad for Cass at times, I also felt a great deal of hope and strength. I enjoyed the character development not only of Cass but of the supporting characters as well. I found the story to be the right amount of sadness as well as happiness. I read this book in two sittings and could not put in down. I was enthralled and invested in the outcome. I also very much enjoyed the ending. I won't give anything away but I felt it came together the way I had hoped it would.

Take a stroll down suburban neighborhood sidewalks in Anytown USA. What do you see? Who do you meet? Could there be, hiding behind the manicured lawn and neatly trimmed bushes, a person just like you? Just like me? There are. And, they’re also characters found on the pages of Juliette Fay’s newest novel, Catch Us When We Fall. The keyword, “when” in the title sets the premise for the story. For it’s not a matter of “IF” we fall, but when, and we do. We fall in love with the complex and flawed characters of Cass and Scott, along with Laurel, Kate, and Drew. We fall into the intensity of the influence of alcoholism which walks throughout Anytown USA with nary a care whether you drive a Lexus, cut the lawn, or take refuge in a guest bedroom. We cling to the hope that the humanity buried deep inside us will battle the inner evils of destruction and unite us rather than splinter like fragments of a shattered dream. Fay delivers emotionally packed extra innings of swings and misses as Cass and Scott circle the bases to find redemption and love waiting at home base.

Thank you to @letstalkbookspromo, @getredprbooks, and @williammorrowbooks for having me on the tour of Catch Us When We Fall by @juliette_fay! I love the yellow detail on the cover, so I had to match it to these flowers!

In one sentence: When alcoholic Cass finds herself pregnant and alone, she turns to the baby's uncle Scott, a Red Sox baseball player, to help her get and stay sober.

I enjoyed this book, but be advised that it is a darker read than the cover suggests. Fay portrays Cass' alcoholism in a brutally honest way, and we see how she has hurt herself and others for so many years. Scott was an excellent counterpoint to Cass - although he seems to be keeping it all together, there's trauma in his past that he hasn't addressed. The power of friendship is a key theme in this novel - we see how Cass' daily AA meeting supports her and helps her develop deep connections with others in recovery. Cass' redemption arc and journey of self-discovery were very powerful.

If you like a redemption story and can handle the tough subject matter, this is a good one to add to your TBR! When discussing the book with the other tour participants, lots of us thought it would make a great Lifetime movie.

⚠️Trigger warning: alcoholism and abuse ⚠️

Review:
Cass is in trouble and at a loss as to what to do. Not only has she just lost her boyfriend to alcohol poisoning but she is an alcoholic herself. And she's pregnant. Unaware of what else to do or where to go, she turns to her boyfriend's brother Scott.
What follows are a serious of events, some related and some not, that grow Cass and shape her into a whole new person with a new and unexpected outlook on life and love.

While I did enjoy this book it wasn't my favorite. It isn't what I would normally read and so I think in a way it made it a little less enjoyable.
I did enjoy seeing the character growth and progression, particularly in Scott. I think overall I was just left wanting a little more.
However, I will say that if you are a fan of Lifetime movies, this is so the book for you! It was like a Lifetime movie in book form.

Emotionally Charged
Powerful
Hopeful

This is a beautifully written character driven story about Cass Macklin. Cass just hit rock bottom - she is a wreck, now homeless, an alcoholic, and someone who just lost the father of her unborn baby. In her desperation to turn things around to raise her baby, she reaches out to Scott, Ben's brother who is a major league baseball player.

This was a compelling and emotional read that was hard to put down. The scenes in this story were so heartbreaking and the writing so heartfelt. It has been a while since I was so emotionally connected to the characters that made me tear up. This book certainly did that. Juliette Fay did an awesome job writing this intense story that brought hope and inspiration to the story.

Beautiful book that tackles the tough subject of alcoholism and it effects on relationships, family, motherhood. I really enjoyed the book,.

I think I’m a glutton for punishment when it comes to reading emotional books. I’ve been gravitating towards more somber books lately with heavier content & I’m not exactly sure why. I just can’t stay away from them, including Catch Us When We Fall.

As weird as this may sound, I enjoyed reading about Cass’ life and her struggles. At times, she made me roll my eyes at her, but she also made me silently cheer for her with how strong and determined she was. I loved the relationship & friendship she had with scott, even though at times his extremely guarded behavior made me annoyed with him. This one was not only enjoyable, but an emotional ride. 4 ⭐️S

A big thank you to Let’s Talk Books, Netgalley, the publisher, and Juliette Fay for my gifted e-arc!

It's been a bit since I've finished a book in one day but Catch Us When We Fall gripped me from the start and held me through until the end.

If you love stories of redemption and troubled characters with a past I whole-heartedly recommend this book.

Cass Macklin and Ben McGreavy fell in love in high school and thought themselves the perfect match. Ben was an intellectual who didn't trust anyone and grew up in an abusive home. Cass was in foster care after losing her mother until she aged out and found herself on the streets at 18. The trouble with Cass and Ben is that they lived their lives in the bottle and have been unable to provide stability for themselves. We begin our story just after Ben has died of alcohol poisoning. Cass shows up graveside drunk with only Ben's judgmental brother, Scotty, there beside her to say goodbye.

Fast forward a month and we find Cass waitressing and trying to clean up her act when she runs into the Scotty. Scotty is the third-basemen for the Boston Red Sox and wants nothing to do with his brother's girlfriend. When she drops in his lap the why behind her attempt to clean up her act Scotty finds out she is carrying his nephew he agrees to foot the bill for rehab to help her out. He then grudgingly allows her to live with him as she tries to get herself set up for success after rehab.

Scotty comes from the same abusive home as his brother and found his own way out (sports instead alcohol) but is dealing with demons of his own from his childhood. Can he actually trust Cass to stay clean? Can he keep the drama from his home life out of his professional life on the field?

We also have a cast of side characters who I found myself caring a lot about throughout the book. Even characters who made such a brief appearance left a mark on this book and my heart. I can't tell you the number of times my eyes welled up as I felt the struggle of the individuals in this book.

I have not ever had any experience with addiction personally so I cannot speak to whether or not this was a good depiction of the process but to an inexperienced eye it felt so real and raw. I found myself cheering so hard for everyone's development and hoping for everyone to find their path forward.

Catch Us When We Fall is an emotionally riveting novel of second chances, redemption, and hope. Cass Macklin has just lost Ben, the brilliant man she's been with since she was a teenager, she is pregnant, homeless, and an alcoholic. Desperate, she turns to Ben's brother Scott, a major league baseball player, who is suspicious and wary, but takes Cass in. Cass's journey is fraught with tension and temptation, but also with determination to stay sober for the sake of her unborn baby. Her relationship with Scott is shaky and tenuous and sometimes combative, but there is also warmth and humor and kindness. There are wonderful supporting characters as well, who add layer upon layer of emotion to a story that is compelling and heartfelt. I grew to care about Cass and Scott, as they worked through a lifetime of pain and disappointment to get to a place of trust and forgiveness. This book is raw and intense and honest, hurting my heart at times, making me laugh at others, and bringing tears to my eyes.

For some reason this book didn't end up being what I thought it was going to be. I actually liked the progression of the friendships that Cass ended up building instead of the relationship romance that (very) slowly developed. I only know surface level things about addiction but I'm assuming this was pretty accurate regarding AA, relapses, etc.

Juliette Fay’s Catch Us When We Fall is the story of Cass, pregnant and alone, who struggles through conflicts to get her life back. This well-written, heartbreaking, and sometimes funny book makes readers believe that redemption and second chances are possible. I found myself cheering Cass on through all that she experiences. Great read!

*Thank you to Williams Morrow, Juliette Fay, and Netgalley for providing me with a E-ARC of "Catch of When We Fall" in exchange for an honest review*

Ooof. I honestly request this book because it compared it to Jodi Picoult book, and that is definitely an accurate comparison. This is a heavy book, but it does have light moments too.

First off, I fully think that you can’t judge a book by its cover, but in this case judge away— Catch Us When We Fall is just as epic as the cover!!! Seriously amazing!

I have never read Juliette Fay before and I am so excited to say that she truly blew me away! The storyline was so well-paced and the twists and turns were masterfully placed. The characters face many conflicts/struggles throughout the novel and I thought Juliette Fay does a wonderful job of organically wading through their issues to a resolution. I truly didn’t want this book to end. That’s not to say Juliette Fay didn’t write a full and complete book, because she absolutely did. I just adored the entire cast of characters and I would love to see this book turn into a series!! Catch Us When We Fall is a 5+++ star read that I highly encourage everyone to read!

There aren't enough well-written romantic dramas around anymore (everyone seems to want to write suspense), so I'm grateful to Juliette Fay for providing me with a well-written, engaging one. Cass is a pregnant alcoholic. Scott is an emotionally scarred journeyman baseball player. They have nothing in common except Ben, the father of Cass' child and Scott's brother, who died of alcohol poisoning. Scott reluctantly let Cass move into his house temporarily, and she promises to sober up for the sake of the baby. Cass is fragile and insecure, but after a short stay in a rehab facility she is determined to change, attending meetings, finding a sponsor, and making a few unexpected friends along the way. But her sobriety is tested numerous times, and her relationship with Scott is confusing to say the least.

Cass' mother died when Cass was a teenager, leaving her to fend for herself in foster care. She's always been poor, barely scraping by on low-wage, short-term jobs. She loved Ben, but their relationship was based on drinking, being hungover, or finding the next drink. It's easy to root for her recovery and understand how alcohol remains such a temptation when she is stressed. I appreciated the evolution of her relationship with the family next door and her attempts to help another friend who is also trying to get sober. Scott is a bit of an uncommunicative jerk sometimes, but he also had a traumatic childhood, and he demonstrates his support and generosity in many ways. As much as I dislike the "heroine falls in love with former lover's brother" trope, in this case it didn't bother me because the relationship develops very gradually, to the point where I wondered if it would happen at all.

The outline of the book may sound cliched, but Juliette Fay fills in the story with nuanced characters and dynamics, turning a long novel into a compelling, page-turning read.

ARC received from Net Galley in exchange for objective review.
