I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

The Influencer Miranda Rijks
I really enjoyed this book. Great paced thriller, with a few good twists for good measure.
Skye is one of those love hate characters, and I enjoyed reading the alternating chapters. Did I have a sneaking suspicion as to what was going on...yeah I did, did it matter, nope!
Easy fast paced read.

Wickedly juicy! I love any thriller about influencers, fascinating and so relevant to our current culture. Even though I guessed the big twist at the end, I found this to be an addictive page turner. I’ve enjoyed every story written by this author and will continue to read her backlist. Thank you NetGalley, Inkubator Books and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. Unfortunately I have tried multiple times to complete this book but have just not been able to get into it. I dont think there is a particular reason, it's just not for me.

I read most of rijks books. This was probably my least favorite of hers. It was good. The story was interesting but I didn't care for the characters in the book. I would give 3.5 our of 5 stars

Nathan Edwards is raising two daughters, 15yo Isla and 13yo Chloe, since the death of his wife, Sacha, of cancer ten years ago. He is now engaged to Marie, their former au pair. He runs Sacha’s Sanctuary, a charity for the homeless, in memory of his dead wife.

When Skye, a famous social media influencer with a multi-million following, offers to be a brand ambassador for the charity for free, Nathan is confused, even as his daughters are thrilled and completely enamoured with her. He wonders what such a famous person expects to get out of a tie-up with his charity.

Nathan knows that an association with Skye would change the fortunes of his charity, but he can’t help but think that it would not be good for him or his family.

Meanwhile homeless teen Skye, in the past, on the run from a dangerous ‘safe’ home for vulnerable teens, faces numerous threats posed by drug peddlers, potential rapists and wild animals, while living rough on the street. She is confused at the offer of friendship from teenage heiress Tiffany Larkin.

The novel is written in the first person present tense PoV of Nathan in the current time, and Skye Then, in alternate chapters. The Then is when Skye was 17 years of age, about 11 years ago. After a significant event in 2008, the point of view timeline changes to Skye in the present time, once again alternating with Nathan’s PoV in the present.

I loved the style of the narration, the action sequences and the dialogue. Unlike the characters in the two previous books, The Arrangement and You Are Mine, by this author that I’ve read, here the characters don’t make any stupid choices just for the sake of advancing the plot.

There are unsaid lessons about the perils of social media fame, a world which supposedly prizes the need for authenticity, and yet revels in its fakery.

The characters are good and believable. The only one I didn’t care for was Marie. She seemed too passive and insubstantial. Nor did I care much for the relationship between Nathan and Marie.

The twist is a good one. What isn’t good is the manner in which it is revealed to us. The police figuring out the truth is organic and believable. But the perpetrator writing of their crimes in a letter to a person who will never get that letter doesn’t work at all.

The book ends on a high note, a cliffhanger of sorts. It’s not suggestive of a sequel, but is definitely an upping of the ante.

Good read, enjoyable with twists and turns. First time reader of this author, and I enjoyed her book..

An “influencer” is more interested in the head of a charity than she should be and is very used to getting what she wants. Do people really take so much notice of what “influencers” have to say/flog, do they not have minds of their own - obviously not!! Up to now I have loved any and every book Miranda has written but this one is such a disappointment. The only thing I liked was the setting, Horsham. All the characters were off putting and deeply unpleasant. Couldn’t believe the abrupt ending and expected to find more than just a taster for another book filling the last 7% or so of the remaining space.

I did predict what was the biggest twist in the book as it was quite obvious but it didn't take away from the enjoyment of reading it all. I really liked seeing what twists would come next for Skye and Nathan throughout the story and found that the back story scenes really added to the story as a whole. A great choice for those of you that enjoy psychological thrillers.

This book was a stunner!!! I was immediately drawn in and found it hard to put down which was just perfect for a vacation book! The story lived up to the description and I loved the mix of plot and characters, as well the persistent but low key creepy vibe. Having the creepiness just exist "under the current" made it way more creepy than if it was in your face. I did sort of guess the twist (or at least suspect) but I didn't mind that - it was still very fun to read on and see what happened. I would have appreciated a slightly better connection drawn for why Skye sought out Nathan but that is a very minor point and didn't take away from the book at all. I give this book a hearty five stars and definitely can't wait to read more from this author.

This was fun!

Second by this author and I really enjoyed it. Her stories are quick, writing is direct and to the point. Skye is wicked. She is a master manipulator. Nathan was a bit wishy washy and as you can imagine the combination proves to be problematic. There were twists. I saw some of them ahead of time, but not all! I will look forward to the next by this author.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Inkubator Books for a copy in exchange for a review.

I was not a fan of this writers style. The premise of the story was good, but, it had now flow. I found the sentences very choppy. It may be because I am not British, and I mean no disrespect, but I just couldn't enjoy it. Sorry.

Oh wow… I mean I don’t even want to be on social media anymore after this one! Such a creepy ride reading this novel. The characters were fantastic! All in all you will definitely not want to stop reading this story.

Loved this book and it definitely kept my attention meaning I wanted to keep reading. It wasn't among the best thrillers I have ever read and I was able to predict some of the things that were going to happen, but there were plenty of twists and turns that I didn't see coming as well, making it a worthwhile read.

I liked that the book had a current theme, influencers are very relevant at the moment which made the book seem more realistic and and added to the intensity of the story line. It was chilling but still very believable. I enjoyed the way the book flipped between different time periods which helped develop the story and characters. I haven't read anything else by this author but will definitely keep an eye out for her name now!

The Influencer is a thriller for modern times! Such a compelling plot - I hope this gets made into a movie!

I ended up finding this book quite badly written and predictable despite the interesting premise and nearly DNF. I only perservered because I wanted to see if I was right. If you're looking for an easy read this is for you but it wasn't for me
