I really wanted to like this one, but from almost the very beginning I was confused... The protagonist seems to behave and speak a lot younger than her 35 years would suggest. And the way everyone becomes a BFF and shares secrets within 5 minutes of meeting felt a lot more like a YA series of relationships than an adult one,
which made the characters difficult for me to relate to..

The plot is also just sort of all over the place and confusing. There's a lot of stuff going on, but it never feels like most of it develops robustly into a coherent world and story. This one wasn't for me...

Another Beast’s Skin was not for me. This started as a fun tale, then quickly became confusing. I felt like this storyline started in the middle (it was the second book in a series) and the characters were not quite flushed out.

I could not get into Another Beast's Skin by Jessika Grewe Glover, which made it almost a DNF for me. I did finish it, but it was okay.

Neysa is a 35 year old divorcee who decides to get away, returning to English countryside, after her fathers death. Little does she know, like-calls-to-like, and she meets others… who don’t quite fit in. Silas, Corra, and Cade are fae, who are on earth trying to solve mystery that will protect both the earthen realm and fae realm.

I really, really wanted to like this book! The idea is very reminiscent of Sarah J. Maas or Through the Door by Jodi McIsaac. But unfortunately, it just fell flat. There were elements of it that were extremely likeable. The world building was good, the mineral/gem search, and the characters were okay – albeit Neysa didn’t seem to act her age. The writing was a bit strange at times, in the beginning of the book you get an MPV from Silas and Corra over one situation… never again are you in their heads and it was just strange. I would have preferred the whole book written from Neysa, even that one scene.

In the end, I kept feeling like some of the vernacular seemed more for a middle grade book, than an adult read. I would never suggest this book to one of my younger students because of the more graphic (yet very short) sex scenes. I truly believe that this series has some potential. I will gladly read subsequent books because I am intrigued enough to see where this is going.

Thank you Netgalley and GenZ Publishing for this ARC. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

I really enjoyed this book. The author did a wonderful job creating a world by painting a detailed story. It was beautifully written and kept by attention. Great job, will definitely recommend for our library!

I absolutely LOVED Another Beast's Skin. It was so refreshing to read about a 30+ year old heroine. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves fantasy.

This book did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down; it hooked me up from the first sentence to the last one.

The world-building was solid and impressive; imagine where urban fantasy got to meet with high fantasy! Such an incredible job the author had done in this book. Although the beginning was a bit slow, as an author, I totally understand the time needed to explain the world-building, especially in this book the world was complex and had a new magic system that was required to be explained well.

I loved most of the characters, Neysa was so real, and I could relate to her.

The book ended with a Clift hanger, and it shocked me! I couldn’t think of anything beyond that I need the second book right now!

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, and I recommend it to everyone who likes fantasy stories.

The worldbuilding felt like it had loads of potential, just felt mostly confusing to me. Some of the scenes just didn't mesh well together at all, like the author haphazardly throwing them together to make a disjointed quilt. The characters felt boring and bland, and there were just too much info-dumping at times. I didn't buy into the fae world at all. And *groans* another love triangle — it's not that that cliché's inherently bad, it's just not for me.

When Neysa's whole world was upended by her divorce and father passing away, she decided she needed a change; this change led her across the world into an unknown land that felt so familiar, yet she could not figure out why. She became close with 3 people, Corra, Silas, and Caden, who quickly became a vital part of her new life. Discovering that she is part of the mystical Fae world, Neysa has to persevere not only through people continuously trying to abduct her, use her, possibly even kill her, but to fight for those that she loves all while learning more about who she is through self-discovery.

I do feel that there were gaps in the plot line that make you reread a few pages and still cannot fill the gap, which is why I gave it 4 stars vs. 5. There were so many details in the 3 parts of this story, yet too many plot holes left unanswered or left you confused.

With that being said, I absolutely loved this book and the chemistry between Neysa and Cade with Silas thrown in to stir things up (and boy did he). Neysa and Cade have such an attraction to each other, but these 2 stubborn characters refuse to admit their feelings and continuously bicker and push each other's buttons. It makes you want to push your hands into the book and throttle the two of them (and give Silas a little smack on the rear for being the flirtatious). Parts of the story leave you constantly guessing who is deceiving whom and who is willing to stab another in the back for self gain.

Overall I would hands down recommend this book and could see using it as a mentor text (the educator in me)
teaching various elements of story writing. If not for the classroom, it is perfect for those who love deception, watching a character grow and become a strong, dominant female, and to root for a love that may not happen or was never meant to be.

Synopsis:

When Neysa, a market trader from Los Angeles, who has a penchant for sword play, rents a cottage on the coast of England, she would never have imagined the secrets she would uncover and a new world beyond the one she lives in.

When she meets and becomes friends with Corra, Silas, and Cade, Neysa learns that they are emissaries from a fae realm, charged with keeping guard of the volatile Veil between realms. And the four crystals that kept the Veil secure have gone missing.

In a race to protect the realms, Neysa must learn about the new world she’s been thrust into and uncover the secrets in her blood. Luckily fae guardian, Cade and his cousins are willing to help Neysa in her quest. But even if they can get the crystals back, there may be great consequences for the future of the fae realm.

2.5 stars for the first installment in this series.

Even though Neysa is supposed to be a 35yo woman, it doesn’t feel that way. Her character comes off as much younger and more insecure. The plot and world building could use a little bit more work to make it more believable. If I was Fae and charged with keeping the Veil between realms secure, I probably would guard this secret a little harder than Cade, Silas, and Corra did.

I do really like the main characters and the bonds they form (although the partial love triangle was a bit weird and I didn’t like that), though they could also benefit from some added depth. The slow burn was there but it was very secondary, it’s hinted that Cade and Neysa have an incredibly deep bond that’s not very common and I would have loved to see a little bit more of that in action.

There isn’t enough about the antagonist to make the reader really hate them, I kind of felt like it was thrown in there at the last minute in order to allow for another book. I think this could have been good as a stand alone with some plot tweaking, added world building, more information about the magic system, and character growth.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing to read an ARC of Another Beast’s Skin!

This just wasn’t the book for me. I liked the idea of an older protagonist, but I really struggled to finish this book. Nothing against the author or the story I just couldn’t really get into this book.

This is the first book in a new YA fantasy series, and I think the series starts out strong. It's a nice debut from an author with an easy to read style. I'm a sucker for faerie stories, and this one is well done. Neysa is a strong character yet flawed, which makes for an intriguing and likeable protagonist. The story was captivating. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

The concept of the book was fun and exciting but the execution failed. I know I have an arc so the large amount of typos can be ignored however the story lacks consistency and with some beta readers I feel it could be improved. I loved the main love interests but the writing was younger than our characters were meant to be so therefor it felt childish but minor character changes could have made this more believable.

This book had a great storyline, and never left me uninterested. I loved the main characters and could connect with them. The scenery was described well, and I loved the world-building in this. It was a great enjoyable read!

I didn't like this book, while it does have the potential to be something good in the fantasy area, I felt the world building and the characters were missing something. The love triangle felt superficial and I couldn't connect with any of the characters

I'm not sure what failed here, because the synopsis sounded so great and while reading it I understood the ideas the author wanted to communicate, but in between the chaos of the first chapters and the constant struggle to understand the overall story I ended up really disliking the book.

From the very beginning, this book was super difficult to understand. In the first part, there's a huge info dump that didn't make things easier and that just buried the actual plot. Plus the development of events wasn't clear either, there was considerable confusion as the story jumped from scene to scene with no transition in between. And the characters didn't help, they were flat, unoriginal, boring, and most important didn't make sense. Take as an example Neysa, the main character, she was supposedly 35 but she always acted like a teenager, and she takes the worst decisions without any consideration. The other characters were equally bad, they just tell to an almost stranger all their life story, and I honestly didn't care about anyone so when the romance appeared it was just weird.

So to recapitulate I think the story really had potential but it missed a lot of editing and lacks the minimum to create a coherent story.

I love a story with magic and adventure - one that takes you away from your reality to an alternate one and captivates you the entire time. This book was full of adventure, magic, mystery, and romance and I could not stop reading it!

This is the story of Nesta, a market analyst from Los Angeles (finally an adult
protagonist!) who takes time away in a cottage in England and ends up finding a connection with the locals. In befriending them, she learns about the fae realm and the threat to the veil that divides the realms, and realizes it is up to her to help her new friends protect the world. Throughout this journey she finds out who she truly is and what she’s capable of - with a little romance along the way ;)

At times this book does get confusing with the details of the magic and it feels like some of the scenes are rushed. It could use some more elaboration on how the magic works in order to better understand their mission and how they’re accomplishing it. But I did find I was connected enough to Nesta’s story and the characters that it kept me intrigued nonetheless!

Thank you to NetGalley and GenZ Publishing for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review!

I was very excited about Another Beasts Skin. This book follows a woman named Neysa who is 35 and divorced. But the story doesn't exactly read like it. I'm halfway through it and I'm struggling. So the best thing for me to do is put it down and come back. At the halfway mark, it's already a three-star rating for me due to the disorganization so far. I'm trying to figure things out but there are not many explainations where needed. I'm not really liking the romance and I'm not a fan of love triangles. However, I will be coming back to it because it has so much potential but I think I'm already drained from training to follow along thus far. I need to recooperate then come back. I will not be posting my review on Goodreads just yet, because I would like to be sure that it won't be higher than a three-star. I am, however, positing it here, in hopes that with some feedback and edits, this becomes a pretty awesome read before publishing. *Fingers Crossed*

"I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

I literally don’t understand the other poor reviews but this book won my heart extremely. This is the fascination and fiction we want in an YA novel. This book have potential to be the great book. "You are my favorite puzzle". I would like to give it 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars.
Maybe the best debut i've ever read. This is going to make so many peoples' best of 2021 list. If you are Harry Potter fan or Realm Breaker fan than absolutely go for it.
