This teaser certainly grabbed my attention. Certainly seems like there is a lot going on in the story. Plan on reading it in its entirety.

Honestly, I don't like Taddeo's writing. It is exploitative and it completely is for the white feminist gaze. I just can't with it.

I'm a fan of Lisa Taddeo after reading Three Women and was thrilled to hear about the release of Animal. Having read the teaser, I'm thirsty for more. With an opening both shocking and intriguing, I'm desperate to uncover more about protagonist Joan, the secrets of her past, her relationship with Alice, and who she is in fact telling the story to. The story feels bold, complex, and something that will make me uncomfortable. It's left me wanting more.

This was my first book to read by this author and I can't wait to read more! The characters are amazing and the story flows so well. Really cannot recommend this one enough!!

Reading this teaser made me so excited to get my hands on the full book. It is so dark, which isn't normally a book I read but I devoured Taddeo's Three Women so have to keep reading her work.
I'm curious to see what happens next!
I'm also curious to see what else Lisa Taddeo comes out with next.

Thank you Netgalley for this Teaser edition of Animal, by Lisa Taddeo.

Netgalley has provided me with just a few chapters of Animal, so I can only speak for the beginning of what I read.

And I would keep reading!

I really enjoyed Taddeo's Three Women, so I was excited to try another of her works. Just like Three Women, this book is full of grit, and darkness, but also with a pull to keep you completely hooked.

After Joan watches her lover die in a violent and shocking way, she leaves her home in search of the only woman that she believes will help her. Joan's life has been harder and more painful than most people's, but it takes chapter by chapter (I assume) to uncover just why Joan does what she does, and why she carries such a darkness.

Like I said, I would keep reading. It definitely had a slow burn that made you really want to understand what was about to happen. The characters are fleshed out in full color, and it has a great set up for an intriguing story.

The writing of “Three Women” is what instantly made me a fan of Lisa Taddeo. Her visceral writing transports you fully into the narrative. I was hooked on the first sentence. Can’t wait to read more

A teaser that gets your heart racing in just two chapters. I'm hooked....can't wait to read the entire book.

Having read three women by Lisa I really wanted to read this book! I was not disappointed ! Joan is a wonderful protagonist at the start of the novel she has driven cross-country to Los Angeles, where she’s rented a ramshackle three-storey house in a compound in Topanga Canyon. Joan is defined by the trauma of her past, which has left her, she tells us, “depraved”. She becomes involved with two
Men but her main interest is finding Alice .Joan has had a traumatic past and the book has triggers of rape power and control. This book won’t be for everyone but it is well written a dark novel that will get you talking !

I only received an excerpt of this so unfortunately I cannot adequately review the book. I don't think the first two chapters was enough to peak my interest.

This was only a teaser that I downloaded but reading it was incredible. The read starts off with a bang and the reader is totally invested in the story. I’d love to read the book in entirety.

Granted, this is only a teaser. But Taddeo quickly throws you into the deep end with a stunner of an opening. You know you're about to get into something dark and twisted, and there's absolutely no chance you're putting this book down once you start.

The teaser of Animal by Lisa Taddeo is a two-chapter excerpt of a novel depicting the life of Joan, a complicated woman who finds herself making morally questionable decisions and how she orients herself relative to those around her. The excerpt hooks you and the author's writing is compelling, yet almost distant, pulling you in to learn more. I really enjoyed the two chapters I read and am planning on picking up the book!

Many thanks to the publisher Avid Reader Press and Netgalley for the teaser ARC in return for an honest review.

Lisa Taddeo’s previous book, Three Women, was incredibly captivating. I’m very curious to see what she brings to a novel! This teaser certainly left me wanting more. The protagonist is edgy and enthralling. Even with only two chapters, several lines stood out to me as striking to the dark heart of being a woman. That was something I loved about Three Women - the way Taddeo can resonate so well with my experiences as woman even if I don’t find myself in anything like the situations she writes, whether fiction or nonfiction.
