This book was just ok. I found Popcorn Bob scary and I thought it would be more funny. But I’m not really sure what. I expected of this. I was not really a fan of this story and wouldn’t recommend it.

I knew going into it that this one was going to be weird. I was ready for weird. I wasn't ready for some of the inexplicable nonsense. Some of the elements are given a sort of explanation, but that explanation doesn't make sense. Like Bob needing to be "recharged" in the microwave. Or really, why popcorn is on the list of banned foods in the first place. Ultimately silly and without resolution.

While this did hold my kids' attention for awhile and the premise was unique, our family just found this book a little odd. I'm not sure why there was a male narrator at the beginning and saying the chapter titles. I'm also not sure why popcorn is deemed such an unhealthy snack throughout the whole book - if you use an air popper, it's not very many calories per cup... and the whole book hinges on popcorn being a super unhealthy snack that is banned from school (and I guess from home too as a result). Just not for us, but give it a try with your family!

This book while made for young readers, was almost to void of interest for me. The male narrator made some sort of sense at the beginning of the book, but I started getting annoyed by his gravely tone when he stated the chapter names . The female narrator was alright, but the voice she did for Popcorn Bob was grating on my ears.

I like the concept of the book, it's very fun and irreverent...but not executed well.

Giving 1 star for the representation of an LGBTQIA+ family.

What a fun story about a young girl, Ellis, who eats way too many snacks. Her school goes on a healthy eating plan and that means no more popcorn. Her Dads place the microwave and popcorn in the shed. Out of sight. Out of mind. Ellis can't stand it so she sneaks out to make her a bag of popcorn and one kernel doesn't pop. She continues to microwave it until it grows into Popcorn Bob, a mischievous popcorn that gets into lots of trouble. What a fun book to read and can't wait to read the next in the series. Great graphics and fun for kids of all ages. I highly recommend it. Thanks #netgalley for the advanced copy.
