I really like Elizabeth’s books and I have not been disappointed by this one. Once again, the author has taken me on a journey and made me smile along the way.

She writes characters in such a way that they are easy to believe and like. Despite Marley’s life being completely different to mine in many ways, the way Neep exposes her insecurities, worries and desires makes her an easy character to connect with. I also connected to Anna and the pressures she felt.

This book was an easy and uplifting read that explores important topics in a light-hearted and fun way, namely friendship, romance and balancing adult responsibilities. I would recommend this book to fans of Sandy Barker and Samantha Tonge.

This is a new author for me. I enjoyed The Mix-Up despite it being well outside my comfort zone and not the kind of book I usually read. The premise of the book really appealed to me. This is the kind of light-hearted read I expected and I found it really entertaining. There were some cliché moments such as Marley being naïve in a way that really wasn’t believable. The book felt a bit rushed at times. There are times when Marley talks to people and we also gets her thoughts about what she’s experiencing. This made a bit of a disconnect and I struggled to get back in the flow of the book. Overall, I found The Mix-Up frothy and entertaining.

Elizabeth Neep is a new to me author and I really enjoyed her writing style. The Mix-Up was such a fun, light-hearted, read. Loved it!

Anna is a very busy bride to be, busy with her job as a realtor and planning her wedding. Marley is Anna’s best friend and made of honor. And then Anna receives a phone call from a very posh wedding venue. An opening comes available at the Hyde Hotel and that is Anna’s most favorite place to get married. But when Anna is stuck at work and can’t go see the venue, she calls on Marley to go see it for her. So, Marley does as Anna asks. She goes to the Hyde Hotel and meets with the manager. The hotel manager, Cameron, assumes that she is the blushing bride Anna, and Marley doesn’t correct him. As he is showing her around, he introduces Marley as Anna to some of the employees. Marley doesn’t seem to mind being Anna, because she thinks Anna has the perfect life, a successful career, a beautiful home, and is and soon to be married to the perfect guy. But Marley becomes smitten for Cameron, and he thinks she is someone else. How will Marley ever wiggle her way out of this mix-up without loosing her chance at true love? This light-hearted read is sure to put a smile on your face as it has all the feels.

This entertaining and engaging read was simply fun and amazing. The well developed characters, will soon be pulled into your circles friends. Thank you Elizabeth Neep for this fantastic read. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

The perfect book to curl up with a wine/cuppa/glass of champers - combine a little bit of The Other Woman and Something Borrowed (they make the top 10 rom com films) and a whoolllee load of friendship drama - we have Elizabeth Neeps, The Mix Up!

This is a story where you cannot set yourself a limit of how many chapters you’re diving into becuase you’ll devour the whole book at once!

How hard can it be to act as someone else for a day slash much longer than a day ? Ask Marley Bright! An aspiring actor who isn’t getting the big break she deserves but let her be her mate for the day ? She think she’s hit the jackpot..

I absolutely loved Marley’s character in this, a cool humble caring gal pal that we all need but gets herself into a right old tiz. Every character and moment in this book has an element that you’ll be able to relate too - the good, bad and ugly side of trying to adult, racing against the imaginary clock as to where we think we need to be in life.

Set aside the romance - this focuses on friendships and forgiveness. Marley dives head first into new friendships leading her to the opportunities she’s desperate to get alongside Reese and Will. Wanting to get her foot in the door with acting, she’s trying to keep up with a wedding, hen parties, rent, pretending to be her best mate and life in general.

What’s a rom-com without a fitty ? Let’s cue Cameron - You’ll be dribbling over his kindness and natural schmoozing, and you’ll be even more desperate to see something develop but I say no more!

I loved how this story highlights the importance of friendships and the extra mile you’ll go to maintain them for as long as you can. The twists and turns throughout this story with Marley’s antics will have you stuck on the edge of your bed until you’ve read the whole book!

If you are looking for a light hearted, laugh out loud book that keeps you hooked to the very end, then this is certainly the book for you!. This is the second book I have read by Elizabeth Neep, and I daresay it is even better than the last!.

In this book we follow the story of Marley. She has been rather unlucky of late, she is unemployed, single, and certainly far from being happy with her living arrangements. When her best friend Anna calls her in a panic, Marley offers to help her friend out without a moments hesitation. This is how Marley finds herself standing in the reception area of a swanky hotel, with a receptionist who clearly thinks she is beneath her, and this is what leads her to pretending that she is in fact Anna.

But what Marley hadn’t been expecting was the funny and charming Cameron, the extremely handsome hotel manager, and the spark that would ignite between them. But as Marley is currently pretending to be someone far removed from who she truly is, she can’t see a way forward for her new budding romance, especially as she has a fake fiance and a wedding in the making to contend with!. Marley is desperate to put a stop to the ever growing web of lies to allow herself a shot at true happiness, but now that she has started this journey she has no idea how to step off the path she has set in motion.

This book was an absolute joy to read. It had me laughing out loud at several points, alongside feeling despair for Marley and the way she sees herself. Despite her lack of work and love life, she is a lovely character who has a heart of gold, and in her desperation to feel what it would be like to be her successful friend, she finds herself getting caught up in an ever growing lie.

The storyline is witty and poignant, giving us the perfect combination of humour and emotion as the story unfolds. Cameron is another character who really nestles their way in to your heart. He is humourous, fun and utterly swoon worthy, something that every rom com needs of course!.

A book full of friendship, love and hilarity. I truly enjoyed this story!.

This book had a fascinating affect on me. I found myself annoyed with the story right from the beginning and that changed the way I decided to read it, I ended up hate-reading it. And so, what you'll get from me is more like a Book Rant as opposed to a Book Review. But let me start by saying, it was a thoroughly enjoyable book to hate read and if you're looking for that kind of chaos and fun in your life, I highly recommend this book. There isn't anything offensive about the book and the writing is fine, so it's all about the plot points.

This was the closest I came to DNF'ing a book this year. But I wanted to get through it because I knew that I'd probably enjoy the resolution. And I was right. By the time I got to about 70ish percent through the book and things started to work itself out, I found myself enjoying it more. But before that...

The main plot point is that our main character, Marley, is asked by her best friend Anna to check out a wedding venue for her. And then Marley claims to be Anna at that wedding venue. And then she takes far too long to disentangles herself from that lie, despite getting herself deeper and deeper into new friendships and working relationships with people under that false name. The biggest issue I had with this book, and the part that frustrated me SO much was that I just couldn't understand her motivation for lying about her name. It doesn't make any sense. It's written as if it does, but based on the situation as written, there wasn't a single reason I could find to say you were someone else that wouldn't make your life worse. And she did make her life worse.

Not to mention that for much of the first part of the book, she could have very easily said "Oh! Did you think *I* was Anna? What a funny misunderstanding! No, I'm her best friend Marley getting info for her!" And because there were so many opportunities for this that she simply didn't take, it was absolutely infuriating, both that she didn't come clean but also because of the mess that she got herself into afterwards because she didn't. Reading Marley was like knowing someone whose life choices make absolutely no sense and then they don't understand how their string of bad choices have led to bad things happening. I didn't feel badly when her friends called her dramatic, I wondered why more friends didn't! It's hard to identify with the main character when she was so maddening!

I'm glad this book is over, but I also loved to hate it, so I don't necessarily mean for this review to dissuade you from reading it. If you're looking for a reason for some righteous anger and a source for some snark, then you'll also want to pick up The Mix-Up.

Happy Pub Day to Elizabeth Neep!

Now for the review: I expected this book to be a Romance, and there was certainly that aspect to it, but this book was not what I expected.

Maid-of-honour at her best friend’s wedding, Marley fills in for her BFF Anna and checks out a potential wedding venue, acting as Anna. Only, she wasn’t expecting to meet the potential love of her life while doing it. Complicating things further, Marley spends a bit too much time acting as Anna – and Cameron, the dreamy hotel manager at the venue, believes she is getting married soon. How can she form a connection with Cameron with her fictional fiancé is in their way?

This book leans more towards the women’s fiction genre and focuses on the power of friendship, both old and new; it’s about forgiveness, and finding yourself. But yes, it’s also about love – because isn’t it always?

This book is a light, quick read without delving too much into the serious – a great beach read for the summer.

The Mix-Up comes out on May 27.

Many thanks to Net Galley and the publisher Bookoture for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Disclaimer: I received a digital arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, so thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Elizabeth Neep for the opportunity to read this book early. All opinions and thoughts are my own!

Marley Bright, a 28 year old struggling actress in London, is feeling the pressure from her parents to get a “real” job since she hasn’t really made any progress with her chosen profession. She lives with a weed smoking roommate, Xavier, who seems like a “loser”. Definitely not the place she wants to be in her life. At the same time her best friend Anna is depending on Marley to help her with her upcoming, overpriced wedding to Jake. Anna is busy and unable to check her dream wedding venue, so she asks Marley to go in her place!

This is were the fun begins! The venue receptionist assumes that Marley is Anna and Marley doesn’t correct this mistake. Why wouldn’t she correct that mistake? Well she’s introduced to Cameron, the handsome and single hotel manager. They spend time together as he shows her around and run into other characters that Cameron introduces her to as Anna. Soon we see how this lie grows and how it becomes nearly impossible for Marley to maintain the “Anna lie”.

What will happen? Can she even have a chance with Cameron after this?

Overall I found this story humorous, fun, and it filled my rom-com needs; although I did expect a lot more of a romance. There is so much to this plot and the situation that Marley puts herself in; it leads to this tangled web of lies and emotions that definitely peaked my interest. I just enjoyed the shock factor that certain situations brought and the way that some topics were dealt with.

I will definitely be checking out more of Elizabeth Neep’s books and look forward to what she brings us next.

What would you do if you were able to switch places with someone else? What if you met someone and they thought you were engaged to someone else?
When I read the premise of this book, I thought it would be just an ordinary romantic story, but after reading this book, I was presently surprised to discover this book was so much more than a romance. Marley and Anna have been best friends for a long time. While Anna seems to have everything going for her, Marley is struggling with pursuing her dreams as an actress. So when Anna asked Marley to go to a hotel and feel it out as a possible wedding venue, Marley mistakenly introduces herself as Anna and that is where the story takes off.
I loved how the author developed the characters, but especially the females. These women were so well developed and had a lot of depth. I loved how much Anna, Marley, and Reses were showed to have their own insecurities and flaws as well as their growth in being real to who they are. The pacing and writing were great, so it made for a book that could easily be devoured in one sitting. I wanted to like Will, but he came off slimy by the end of the book. Cameron was such a sweetheart! I liked how honorable he was towards Marley when he thoughts she was engaged. I found the ending well satisfying and very believable. I would highly recommend this book to those who have ever struggled with self identity and wished they could be someone else for a day! I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

A hilarious, happy and entertaining summer read!
I really enjoyed 'The Mix-Up.' It was a light but entertaining story. Perfect for the summer! The characters were entertaining and the storyline was fabulous! I thoroughly enjoyed Elizabeth Neep's style of writing and cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
Thank you to Elizabeth Neep, NetGalley and Bookoutre for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The Mix Up was completely different than I thought it would be, and I don't think that is a bad thing. This story follows Marley as she is trying to figure out who she is and where she fits in. As an aspiring actress with not much luck in the audition sphere, she is feeling down and out. While her best friend, Anna and bride to be, is living the perfect life. When she is asked to attend a walk-through at a potential wedding venue for Anna, the jealously gets the best of her and she pretends to be Anna after the receptionist thinks she is the bride. This is all fun and games, until she meets Reese, a screenwriter, and they enter a competition together. Now, Marley is stuck being Anna and doesn't know how to get out of this tangled web she has woven as part of the original mix up. 3.5 Stars

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book: out 5/27!

This book is more about friendship and finding yourself than it is about romance. It goes to show you that you shouldn't compare yourself to others, their lives might not be as great as they seem. It frustrated me how Marley got away with pretending to be Anna for so long and Anna annoyed me so much throughout the book but by the end my heart was so full of love for them all, especially Xavier. He surprised me the most. A lovely, humorous book with a very small touch of romance.

This book was just okay to me. I was not invested in the characters until the very end. I really did not understand Marley's connection to Cameron. It was quite random to me. That being said, I appreciated that the end had all the women working together to get what they deserved. I appreciated the message of forgiveness as well.

This is a fun spring read!!! A budding actress decides to pretend to be her longtime, successful best friend... and then has to keep up the charade for much longer than she expected. I loved how this book addressed themes of jealousy, imposter syndrome, and just not being your best. It is labeled as a rom com, but female friendships really play the main role. Thank you to NetGalley and to Bookouture for the ARC!

Marley is a 28 year old actor who hasn't gotten her big break yet, barely making ends meet and with every rejected audition making her lose hope in going after her dream any longer.
Having her parents' constant pressure to find a basic assistant job, her perfect best friend Anna's wedding nearing, facing money problems, and being rejected from her latest audition, Marley was in a place of resentment and feeling like a total failure.
With the fairytale wedding venue being available for a viewing at the last minute, which was very difficult to obtain, Anna asks Marley for a favour to go in her place so she doesn't lose the reservation. But Marley felt so out of place as soon as the receptionist asked for her name.
At the moment, it seemed not a big deal and she used the name of her best friend, not knowing that in a few seconds she would meet the man of her dreams and find the opportunity of a lifetime later that day, all while pretending to be Anna.
This was supposed to only last a day; however, things get more complex and don't go to plan and the lie keeps on progressing. What would happen when the truth is out?

I love this book!! Although I am a Romance kind of reader, I really liked the fact that this book was more centred around friendships. Elizabeth Neep makes you hate a character and then love it later, same thing for the opposite! It was such a quick, nice and easy read that was exactly what I was looking for after some intense Fantasy reads.

This was a cute novel, but while the summary led me to believe it was a romance, the book was more of a story about friendship. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but is different than what I'd expected. It was an easy read, though the plot had me frustrated at times because it seemed so simple to resolve the biggest challenges. If you're looking for something light-hearted and feel-good, this would be a good choice.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Mix Up' by Elizabeth Neep.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Elizabeth Neep, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 27th May 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read her previous book 'Never Say No' which I would highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated 'Fans of Mhairi McFarlane, Holly Bourne and Bridget Jones will adore Elizabeth Neep’s wit and warmth' . I am a huge fan of Bridget Jones so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a fan of Elizabeth and if this is half as good as 'Never Say No' it is sure to be a great read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 30 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in London, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually visited London on several occasions so am looking forward to see if I recognise anywhere.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Marley. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

Well done Elizabeth!! Yet another amazingly successful page turner!!! I absolutely LOVED IT, considering I loved 'Never Say No' though I shouldn't be surprised, your a very talented author!!

The booknis extremely well written and the writing flows beautifully. It felt like Marley was telling me her story from across the table. The synopsis, title and cover work perfectly with the storyline.

I was absolutely hooked from page one until the fantastic ending. I completely absorbed this page turner in one sitting. I've read so many crime novels lately thay I really enjoyed reading something so light hearted that made me laugh out loud on several occasions. The storyline was unique and realistic and it just shows how easy it is for one small lie to spiral out of control. It also proved the saying 'be careful what you wish for' to be very accurate. I seriously could not put it down and every time a chapter ended and I thought I could go to sleep each one left me wanting more. An absolute breathe of fresh air!! The storyline is filled with friendship, envy, love, tears and laughter. The book ended perfectly although I would definitely love to read more about what they all get up to next.

The characters are all realistic, strong and well defined. I really enjoyed getting to know them and was completely shocked by Xavier (love the name too!!), not so much by Will. It most definitely shows that looks can be deceiving. Although this book is light hearted and such a fun read it definitely leaves you thinking. It was lovely to see all the different relationships between the characters grow, develop and change. The only thing I would have loved to know more about is what happens with Cameron, maybe a good idea for your next book (hint, hint Elizabeth).

Another HUGE Elizabeth on this fantastic book. I'm looking forward to your next success!! I would also love to see this book turned into a movie, Bridget Jones watch out!

Overall a beautifully written light hearted breathe of fresh air that is perfect to read anywhere and everywhere.

Genres covered in this book include Romance Novel, Humorous Fiction, Contemporary Romance and Holiday Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Bridget Jones and anyone looking for a light hearted page turner.

311 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I really wanted to love this book. I even understand why Marley pretended to be someone else. But I just couldn’t enjoy this book. I found myself often annoyed at the whole situation. Also the cover states this is a rom com feel good and I did not find this book romantic, funny or feel good. My favorite character was Cameron and he was not in the book long enough. My least favorite was Anne. She was just so selfish! As a bride myself I found so many of what Anne did for the wedding unbelievable. Maybe I’m the exception, I don’t know.

Marley Bright is an aspiring actress who has so far only faced rejections in her career. When her best friend and a successful real estate agent Anna is held up with her business and unable to visit her dream wedding venue Hotel Hyde, she asks Marley to go in her place and check out the venue.

But when Marley visits the Hotel Hyde, the receptionist assumes Marley to be Anna. Marley who was always dreaming to be viewed as successful did not correct her and continued pretending to be Anna. And when the handsome manager of Hotel Hyde Cameron introduces her to his friend and a budding writer Reese who is entering a TV pilot competition and wants Anna to be part of it, she has more reasons not to disclose her real identity.

How long she can continue to pretend to be Anna? What happens when the real Anna finds out? What follows is series of humorous situations that brings a smile to the readers' face.

The storyline and the characters were interesting and fun and had a lot of humour to them. The writing style is really good and it kept me engaged throughout the story. I loved the character of Xavier a lot. The romance part was good but had expected a bit more of it towards the end. Not the best Rom-com I have read but I did enjoy the story.

Thanks Netgalley, Bookouture and the author Elizabeth Neep for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
