This cute, fun book is full of encouragement and practical advice for plus-size women who are interested in fashion and want to overcome negative beliefs about themselves and their bodies. Abby Hoy is an plus-size fashion Instagram influencer, and she shares reflective stories about her experience with body image, insight into how she developed her platform and business, and fashion and life advice for other women.

Abby strikes a solid balance between emotional and practical advice, helping women overcome self-limiting beliefs and societal prejudices while also sharing guidelines for thrift shopping, sizing, selecting outfits for special occasions, etc. The pictures throughout the book are only of Abby, so people who are looking for insight into how different clothes work on different plus-size body types won't find that here, but this is a fun combination between a memoir and a fashion guide, and it will be a great option for fans of the author and people who are interested in the topic.

My draw to this book is the feeling of rage that I get every time I walk by the fashion books at the library. They are mostly dated to the late 2000s or early 2010s, written by men, and full of shame-inducing messages that sometimes even directly mock women's bodies and what they wear. I personally am straight-size, and cannot provide a perspective on behalf of this book's target audience, but I wanted to read this book as something I could potentially recommend as a purchase for my library as an alternative to books like How to Never Look Fat Again.

This book isn't all that I would have hoped for that purpose, since it's primarily focused on the author's life and doesn't include images of other women or detailed tips for different body types, but this is a fun, encouraging book with lots of good advice and insightful perspectives that go against common social messages. Abby also seems like a very likable, delightful person, and even though I was not familiar with her before reading this book, I enjoyed her personal stories. She also does a great job of sharing personal opinions about life, clothes, style, and relationships without being dogmatic or alienating people who don't share all of the same views.

One thing that I found particularly striking was how she handled the chapter about sex. She didn't shame anyone who would feel embarrassed or uncomfortable with the content, and said that if you weren't interested or ready for it, you could just skip it, and it would always still be there if you wanted to come back to it. Since I am used to influencers with online fame being aggressive with their opinions and creating tightly knit communities of people who all think and feel the same way, I appreciated her thoughtfulness and balance.

Abby seems like a genuinely delightful person, and because of that, this book can have broad appeal beyond her fan base. I would only recommend this to readers who are high school aged or older, due to occasional language and sexual content, but this is a great book for plus-size people who are interested in fashion, body positivity, and encouraging role models, and I would also recommend this to straight-size readers who want to learn more about other people's life experiences and can pick up general fashion, special event, and shopping advice along the way. I will definitely be recommending this to my library for purchase when it releases.

What a delight this book was. Humorous, self-depreciating, real and relatable. The anecdotes were great and at times when the book could feel a little redundant the stories really kept you connected. Loved the advice throughout and just thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I was unfamiliar with Abby Hoy as an influencer before requesting this book as an eARC. Of course, as soon as I saw her handle I had to run to Instagram to check her out! Her feed is so lovely and bright and she looks amazing in every outfit she posts. After scrolling through for a good little while, I went back and read the book in one sitting. It is a fun and fast read with lots of photos and lists and little asides, all things that help keep my attention when reading a book like this. And her realistically positive attitude really shined through on each page. It’s nice to feel like you have a friend out there hyping you up, letting you know that YES, you can wear that! And just that YES, you can do the thing/go to the place/be the person/etc etc. A great read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a little bit of validation and encouragement.

Plus size influencer Abby Hoy dishes out sound and sincere advice for us plus sized girls. Filled with positivity and confidence she narrates her journey and life experiences as a plus size entrepreneur.

This book orients itself to a young audience. With me being closer to 50 than 30, I felt a little out of touch with her experiences, I.e. online dating.

I would definitely purchase this for a daughter or niece.

This was a cute book with absolutely darling pictures. I can't say that this book convinced me I can wear a crop top (that is a mountain likely to never move, regardless of my size) but her body positivity is admirable. Again, this book is great just for the pictures alone - Abby is very photogenic and she has a lot of great ideas.

I think some of the tips in this book are for younger people. While some of Abby's suggestions are universal, some of it did not ring true to an old geezer millennial like myself (I'll be 38 this year). I have always struggled with self image and my weight but unlike Abby I am not at the point of loving my body regardless of size. However, the cheery tone of this book made me slightly more optimistic about some things I can wear. Again, the pictures are just fantastic, I cannot say enough good things about them.

A wonderful addition to the collection of body-positivity books that have come out within the last few years. Abby Hoy is a beloved body positive content creator and her book provides so many wonderful tips and insights into how to feel fierce and confident in the clothes you wear at any size.

This book is a delight! Body-positive, joyful, funny, charming, silly, and just plain wonderful. Abby infuses this book with so much positively, both in general and for your body, that you can’t help but smile while reading this. I thought this book would only be about feeling good in your clothes, but it’s so much more than that — it’s life advice, dating advice, friend advice, and more. I’m a mid-size girl and this made me happy to know I’m not alone and I shouldn’t be afraid to wear whatever the hell I want; something I need to remember more often. If you need a feel-good read this is it!

This book was received as an ARC from Tiller Press in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Where has this book been my entire life? Every chapter I read I could not help but yell YES YES YES!!!! Abby is such a wonderful spirit inside and out and her smile is infectious and her confidence sheds right off her body. I am familiar with her company Penny Darling and loved the story behind it. Most of all, I love how she overcomes the hateful DMs and comments and is still her same sweet, confident self and she knows nobody can take it away from her. Abby also expresses how important it is to just be YOU. Dress whatever is right for you, live your life to YOUR lifestyle and pay no attention to other's opinions and it's definitely some great advice that I am going to apply in my life as well and how its important to lift other women up and not bring them down.

We will consider adding this title to our Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Powerful. As a curvy chick I love empowering books about this. Body positivity is for me. Great book.

It might be great for some but for me it ended up not what I was interested in.
The book focused way to much on size and not enough on fashion. I was disappointed in the book.
I thought it might be a more inspirational book that focused on what to wear and how to feel great.

Thanks to Netgalley and Tiller Press for providing this e-arc!

This was an unexpected great read! As a plus size person myself it is great to see books that cater to our bodies and I applaud the author and publisher for so. The humour was a hit or miss (Thankfully mostly a hit) with a mix of general and millennial references. It contains tons of general advice and I was thankfully invested enough in her anecdotes to not be annoyed. It's probably a rare situation of min but most of the positive ideas present here are things that i already have in my personal philosophy but i can clearly see other plus size people gaining more confidence from this work.

Abby Hoy is an "influencer" and a blogger. She also is a champion of body positivity. Her attitude is this is her only body and she should love it. She discusses growing up always on a diet, the many rules she was given for what she should or shouldn't wear, and the many times people said contradictory and hurtful comments.
Some of her stories are downright funny, some are sad, and almost all of them identifiable if you're a plus size person. What I was looking for were more photos and ideas for really great outfits for people of all sizes. This is really more of a book about Abbie, with some advice thrown in. Maybe if I were younger, I'd identify with her more, but it just didn't click with me. Not a bad book, but not on my favorites list.

I think Abby’s debut book serves its purpose. There’s lots of great advice punctuated by her life experience and motivational mantras. Overall, she has some really good material in here. As a bigger girl, some of her advice was really good and I definitely plan to use it in my own life! However, that good is mixed in with parts of the book that just have too much fluff and don’t do much overall for the reader. Pop culture references can be fun, but I think this book just uses entirely too many of them. Some sentences don’t really make sense if you don’t get the reference and very few of them accomplish anything other than showing us the author’s taste in movies and tv. Plus, sometimes the book strays a little far with an anecdote or tangent and I felt lost, unsure of how this related to the main message of the book.

On the bright side, the pictures included are absolutely adorable and I LOVE the cover! Though the formatting is a little funky when it’s downloaded, from what I can tell I think it’s going to look great in print.

I think the easiest way to sum up the book is that you can very easily tell it’s her first book, but it’s definitely got promise and would look SO cute on a coffee

This book had a lot of great body-positive messages and the personal stories often had me in stitches. I love how the author empowers her readers to challenge the assumptions that we’ve grown up with about what appropriate clothing is for plus size women. And not only does she talk about clothing, but also about your attitude, because you put that on everyday just like your clothes.

As a former HR professional, I especially loved her segment on appropriate interview clothing. After Covid, I’m not sure any of remember how to dress for certain occasions. And the interview story where she admits she thought he was going to murder her had me rolling with laughter.

And the swimming section … nothing is more terrifying for me than bathing suit shopping. I loved that she said that ‘you have a bikini body if they make bikinis in your size’. So simple, yet so empowering.

Throughout the book there were just a lot of great reminders like that: dress comfortably, dress appropriately for the occasion, don’t be afraid to shop for your size - you can wear whatever fits and makes you happy. Yay! I loved that so much.

But reading an early copy of the book, the formatting was so terrible that it made some parts unreadable. I think the letters “f” and “i” were missing quite frequently from headers. Throughout the book pictures did not line up and most times sections that were in number sequence were out of order. I read it on my kindle app on my tablet and phone. On the tablet the formatting was bad, but on the phone it was even worse. I didn’t factor that into my rating, but it definitely factored into my enjoyment of the book.

I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and Tiller Press and these are my honest opinions.

This is an encouraging and easy read. The content isn't revolutionary, but it is very supportive and affirmative. If you struggle with body image issues or body dysmorphia, this book is helpful. It can help build up your confidence, make you laugh, and help you feel seen.

Great body positivity and good tips sprinkled through photos and author tid bits. For years society has deemed larger women fit for muumuus and elastic waist pants - loved the advice to wear what you love. If you love something you’ll feel more confident and rock it. Cute book - would pass along!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is not just a book about plus size fashion, but plus sized empowerment. Abby How has written a guide to looking your best, but also being your best self, no matter what size you are. I wish my much younger self had had this book years ago.

Cute and empowering for fat girls who have internalized a lot of messages about how to look and adorn themselves. Actually, all girls have internalized a lot of messages about how to look so I wouldn't want to limit the audience just to fat girls. There is a good bit of repetition in the book but while I noticed it, it didn't bother me because the points being made need to be repeated. It takes a lot of self-fulfilling prophecies to make something a reality in your head. I was reading an ARC of the book which had A LOT of formatting issues in every section that was working around a set of photos. Formatting so off that three different sections would be all interspersed making it nearly impossible to read. I look forward to seeing the finished book in color with all those tips that I couldn't decipher in this version.

This was fine. It's definitely not the best plus-sized body confidence book out there, but it wasn't bad. I'm sure people who follow the author on social media / read her blog will enjoy it!
