Very pleasant read !

This is my first book from Mercedes Rochelle and really enjoyed reading about this episode in English History. She really made a great job providing research and describing the context which made the plot realistic allowing readers to fly over many events.
Henry IV, the main character, is likable and credible even though described as an "usurper king" by his enemies. He acted heroically for his rights as well as for preserving his kingdom despite the treason of his supporters..

I highly recommend this book particularly for Middle Ages period fans.

This is Book Three of The Plantagenet Legacy series, although I have read none of the others. It focuses on the downfall of Richard II and the rise of Henry Bolingbroke(Henry IV). I am very passionate about Historical Fiction, and this is one of the better books I have read. The author's style of writing is very enjoyable, and the main character is well fleshed out. As a reader, I definitely found myself rooting for him. Overall, the book is brilliant to read as it gives a fresh perspective, and also a lot of information about the time period for those who don't know that much about it. I will now look at some of Mercedes Rochelle's other works!

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
This is the first time I have read any books by Mercedes Rochelle, but it won't be the last!! I must say, she has an impeccable talent for providing in-depth research, bordering on a non-fiction style, flawlessly with the necessary elements of fiction. The dialogue was natural, and she gave you well-rounded characters, fleshing out these historical figures so that you felt you were actually standing in the room with them in their time period.
One of my favourite Shakespearean plays is Henry V, and I adore the Hollow Crown series, so this book expanded the story of that time period with perfection. I will definitely be adding the rest of this series to my TBR list. I highly recommend this book!!

This is part of a series of books called the Plantagenet legacy but this title can stand on its own. It is the story of Henry Bolingbroke who becomes Henry the 4th after overthrowing Richard the2nd.It is a faithful account of his life but says Richard escaped and went on to live his life out in the obscurity he wanted. Do we believe this interpretation of the facts? It is up to the reader to decide.
The plot leads us to the battle of Shrewsbury and the death of Harry Percy known as Harry Hotspur. There is a useful cast of characters and at the end the source material the author has used. Sadly no contemporary material of the time was used.
