Ace of Spades:
I started Ace of Spades not knowing anything about the book but I’m intrigued! Devon is a quiet and interesting character, but the complete opposite of Chiamaka, who’s confident and ambitious. I love how suspenseful the plot is and I like that the book talks about the struggles of minorities, especially within the education system. I also like that the two main characters are opposites because we get to read two sides of the story.

Blade of Secrets:
I really enjoyed the first chapter of this book! The sample was too short but I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the book. I find the main character, Ziva, to be relatable because I have experienced social anxiety. I love the bond between the two sisters and I can’t wait to see it develop even more as the book progresses. The concept is unique and very unlike typical young adult fantasy books.

Darling:
This book was a little slow in the beginning but the pace picked up towards the end of the chapter. The ending made me anxious but excited! I really enjoyed the thriller aspect because Wendy’s past was a bit of a mystery.

Gearbreakers:
I was immediately hooked from the first sentence. The author’s writing is captivating and very descriptive. I love both of the main characters and I love that this book is enemies to lovers. The setting is very cool and interesting because I don’t read many sci-fi books.

May the Best Man Win:
This book talks about important issues that the transgender community faces and I like that we see the main character deal with these relevant issues. I also love that it’s an enemies to lovers romance with a second chance!

Me (Moth):
The format of this book is different from what I was expecting; I love that it was written in verses. Overall, the writing is phenomenal and so lyrical. Even though I read a small part of the book, it was so heartbreaking and haunting but beautiful. The main character struggles with acceptance and once she meets Sani, her life starts to change. I am so excited to finish the book!

The Ones We Were Meant to Find:
The writing for this book was so good! It’s very descriptive and it made me feel like I was with the main characters. I’m excited to see how their bonds develop (if they develop). I think the concept is different and I love that the book is about two sisters.

The Sea is Salt and So Am I:
I only read a small sample but I liked what I read. I was hooked from the beginning and I like that the book touches on important issues related to mental health. The concept is cool and unlike anything, I have read thus far. It reminded me of John Green’s books, so I know that I’m going to love it!

I love when publishers put these out! It's so exciting to get to read a longer snippet from the book than just what is put on the back cover. I'm really looking forward to reading The Ones We're Meant to Find and The Sea is Salt and So Am I this spring/summer.

This is an excellent compilation of samplers for upcoming releases! It contains the perfect teaser from each novel to give us a feel for the writing, the story, and the characters, and leave us wanting more. I have definitely added a few books to my reading list :-)

I wish more publishers did this, what a great idea!

I love when these seasonal samplers come out! They're a fun way to take a peak at upcoming titles and helpful to help you decide which ones to pre-order and which ones to wait on.

Ace of Spades was a pleasant surprise for me; it didn't seem like a title I'd pick up but I was hooked from the first page! I can't wait for this one to come out!

Darling is also one I'm looking forward to -- there's been a ton of Peter Pan retellings in 2021 and I'm here for it all!

The Sea is Salt and So Am I is another title I'm looking forward to!

Excited to see what's coming up next season!

I'm straight up desperate for the release of May the best man win and The ones we're meant to find. This sampler did really well by spotlighting scenes with great tension and/or that explored character dynamics in a fascinating way. Really looking forward to getting to read these books!

This is so nice! I wish more publishers did things like this. It's really great to get a look at some 2021 releases.
Ace of Spades really intrigues me and Blade of Secrets is a anticipated read for me because I love Tricia Levenseller's work!
I'm not that interested in the other books, but they're looking good and I'm sure many will love them.

I checked out this sampler because I was interested in May the Best Man Win (which I'm still ridiculously excited about), but I found much more!

The excerpt Ace of Spades left me wanting more. I was hooked from the start...anything with a prep school...sign me up!

I'm also curious about The Ones We're Meant to Find...it combines a futuristic world and a mystery...two things I'm all about.

I was provided this book to read in exchange for an honest opinion. I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Ace of Spade: (2/5) Will not read the rest of the book. All Devon did in his chapter was complain and Chiamaka was just toxic with some good old internalized misogyny sprinkled in. Not my thing and cannot see myself rooting for these characters.

Blade of Secrets: (2/5) Will not read the rest of the book. The writing was simplistic and stilted, and the overall concept just wasn’t that interesting to me.
Darling: (3/5) Interested in continuing with the rest of the book. Peter Pan was my favourite as a child, and I think a modern-day retelling could be fun.

Gearbreakers: (4/5) I want to continue with this book. I love sci-fi and just from reading this short sample I can tell this book will probably hit most of my favourite tropes if it continues the way it started.

May the Best Man Win: (3/5) I’m not really in to contemporary so I probably won’t continue this book (not because it was bad, just because it’s my least favourite genre). I preferred Jeremy’s POV over Lukas’ as being trans is something I will never fully understand so I found it interesting to be inside his head and understand what a transgender person may be feeling.

(Me) Moth: (2/5) Will not read the rest of the book. I find books written in verse are choppy and hard to get in to. Maybe it’s because I’m not smart enough, but I feel like Moth wasn’t saying much at all… or at least she wasn’t saying anything that holds my interest.

The Ones We’re Meant to Find: (4/5) I want to continue with this book. It kind of gives me “The Thousandth Floor” (a guilty pleasure of mine) but set in a dystopian future.

The Sea is Salt and So Am I: I will not be reading this sample because from the synopsis of the book I found out that one of the characters intends to commit suicide by drowning. Since that was the method I chose when I was planning my suicide, I don’t think I’ll be comfortable reading this book ever.
