I love when publishers put these out! It's so exciting to get to read a longer snippet from the book than just what is put on the back cover. I'm really looking forward to reading The Ones We're Meant to Find and The Sea is Salt and So Am I this spring/summer.

This is an excellent compilation of samplers for upcoming releases! It contains the perfect teaser from each novel to give us a feel for the writing, the story, and the characters, and leave us wanting more. I have definitely added a few books to my reading list :-)

I wish more publishers did this, what a great idea!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for making this available.

I loved these little sneak peeks, I really enjoyed on what they have to offer! I'm so excited for some of these to be released, especially Darling and Ace of Spades!

I love when these seasonal samplers come out! They're a fun way to take a peak at upcoming titles and helpful to help you decide which ones to pre-order and which ones to wait on.

Ace of Spades was a pleasant surprise for me; it didn't seem like a title I'd pick up but I was hooked from the first page! I can't wait for this one to come out!

Darling is also one I'm looking forward to -- there's been a ton of Peter Pan retellings in 2021 and I'm here for it all!

The Sea is Salt and So Am I is another title I'm looking forward to!

Excited to see what's coming up next season!

Interesting collection of forthcoming stories. I want to read Ace of spades especially. It has such an interesting premise and I know I will enjoy it..

This is so nice! I wish more publishers did things like this. It's really great to get a look at some 2021 releases.
Ace of Spades really intrigues me and Blade of Secrets is a anticipated read for me because I love Tricia Levenseller's work!
I'm not that interested in the other books, but they're looking good and I'm sure many will love them.

I enjoyed this sampler and am excited for the upcoming book season! I discovered a couple new titles that I'm excited to read. The future of YA looks very bright.

I checked out this sampler because I was interested in May the Best Man Win (which I'm still ridiculously excited about), but I found much more!

The excerpt Ace of Spades left me wanting more. I was hooked from the start...anything with a prep school...sign me up!

I'm also curious about The Ones We're Meant to Find...it combines a futuristic world and a mystery...two things I'm all about.

I was provided this book to read in exchange for an honest opinion. I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Ace of Spade: (2/5) Will not read the rest of the book. All Devon did in his chapter was complain and Chiamaka was just toxic with some good old internalized misogyny sprinkled in. Not my thing and cannot see myself rooting for these characters.

Blade of Secrets: (2/5) Will not read the rest of the book. The writing was simplistic and stilted, and the overall concept just wasn’t that interesting to me.
Darling: (3/5) Interested in continuing with the rest of the book. Peter Pan was my favourite as a child, and I think a modern-day retelling could be fun.

Gearbreakers: (4/5) I want to continue with this book. I love sci-fi and just from reading this short sample I can tell this book will probably hit most of my favourite tropes if it continues the way it started.

May the Best Man Win: (3/5) I’m not really in to contemporary so I probably won’t continue this book (not because it was bad, just because it’s my least favourite genre). I preferred Jeremy’s POV over Lukas’ as being trans is something I will never fully understand so I found it interesting to be inside his head and understand what a transgender person may be feeling.

(Me) Moth: (2/5) Will not read the rest of the book. I find books written in verse are choppy and hard to get in to. Maybe it’s because I’m not smart enough, but I feel like Moth wasn’t saying much at all… or at least she wasn’t saying anything that holds my interest.

The Ones We’re Meant to Find: (4/5) I want to continue with this book. It kind of gives me “The Thousandth Floor” (a guilty pleasure of mine) but set in a dystopian future.

The Sea is Salt and So Am I: I will not be reading this sample because from the synopsis of the book I found out that one of the characters intends to commit suicide by drowning. Since that was the method I chose when I was planning my suicide, I don’t think I’ll be comfortable reading this book ever.

It was great to take a look at some of my most anticipated books of the year. GEARBREAKERS looked amazing, and (ME) MOTH was a total surprise. I love a novel in verse, so I'll absolutely check that out. I'm excited to get my hands on all of these over the next few months!

I signed in as soon as I saw this sampler had Gearbreakers. I’ve been curious about that excerpt and eagerly awaiting its release. Several of the other story samples I have already read and thoroughly enjoyed. The biggest surprise for me was ME (MOTH). It was over before I knew it and left me wanting more. It was so touching and beautifully written. I will most definitely be purchasing that book when it is released. Pretty sure that wouldn’t have happened without this sampler. Thank you for the excerpts!

I always love samplers like this! Big thanks to the publishers for continuing to produce them. I am particularly excited by how diverse this group of books looks and I am excited to hopefully find one I want to pick up.

I am so thankful for this chapter sampler. It is full of many books I have heard people talk about and wanted to give them all a chance and this was a great way for me to do so without committing to spending money when I wasn't sure if a majority of these would be for me but nevertheless I was still intrigued. It does seem that most of these ended up not being for me. However I did find a few that after reading the sampler I'm still interested in. One thing that I did not like about this sampler is that it skipped chapters. One book started on chapter two and another skipped chapter two but had one and three. It left me feeling very confused.

I enjoyed reading this sampler of upcoming 2021 spring releases! Personally, I’m really excited for Darling, Me (Moth), Ace of Spades, and The Ones We’re Meant To Find. I had not previously heard about May the Best Man Win and Blade of Secrets, but I was intrigued by them! I will definitely be adding many of these to my TBR and look forward to reading them in the spring. Thank you so much to Macmillan for the opportunity to read this sampler of Spring 2021 releases!

Ace of Spades: I was so surprised by the first three chapters. I went in expecting something completely different, but I guess that speaks to not judging a book by it’s cover. The description of the school immediately drew me in. The characters are already being delved into, and I definitely want to learn more about them. And the mystery that is beginning to be introduced at the end of the third chapter has me wanting to read more. I will no doubt be picking this book up as soon as possible. Rating: 5 stars

Blade of Secrets: I’m sure this book is for someone, but that person is not me. Fantasy in general is not my genre. The weapon creation and use of magic did not interest me. I will say that I appreciate the inclusion of anxiety within a fantasy book. But overall, I do not see myself picking this book up. Rating: 2 stars

Darling: My favorite part was the set up to the mystery. Everything else felt very average for the beginning of a book. Maybe this is because the sampler started with the second chapter instead of the first, but there was not anything to draw me in. The description of the book still interests me, so I will likely pick it up. Rating: 3 stars

Gear breakers: Another sample that just wasn’t for me. I am just not a huge fan of sci-fi. With that being said, this is one of the better sci-fi introductions I have read (which is not many). Rating: 3 stars

May the Best Man Win: One of my favorites from the sampler. This had been on my radar for awhile, but now I know that I need to read it. Both characters seem complex, and I really enjoyed the interaction that they had. The idea of fighting for homecoming court is not new, but I have trust that this will be unique. Rating: 5 stars

(Me) Moth: I love this new trend of writing stories in verse. This is already so beautifully written. I read a lot of stories covering grief, but the voice that this narrator provides us sure to make it unique. I am dying to read more of this. Rating: 5 stars

The Ones We’re Meant to Find: My first feelings towards this sampler was confusion. There was a lot introduced within the first couple pages which made starting this book a little overwhelming. But as I continued and began to understand what was going on, I was drawn into the story. I am definitely curious to continue on. Rating: 4 stars

The Sea Is Salt and So Am I: This is easily one of the best beginnings to a book I have ever read. The flooding, small-town Maine setting is both gorgeous and ominous. It introduced characters and their relationships with one another perfectly. And left a little mystery with some questions that have yet to be answered. I will be picking this up as soon as possible. Rating: 5 stars
