This was a dnf. Listening to this book, it just took too long to get into. I normally love intertwining stories. Unfortunately this just did not engage me.

This was a sweet, calm book that is a perfect read for curling up to spend the day with. I loved how the characters and stories were woven together and I felt such satisfaction when I finished. We need reads like this--books that don't require much from us but to enjoy the writing and the story. Bravo!

A good first novel although I read a quiet life first and I have to say he did get better, but that's a good thing. I don't know what took me so long to get back to thins one just sometimes books slip through the cracks and then I forgot to review it for a while. Woops

I started out very in to this..thought it would be a totally sob fest. By 50% I was bored to tears and didn’t care about any of the characters

I could barely believe that this was a debut. There was just something so lyrical and heartfelt in the writing that resonated so deeply with me. This book of stories is seamlessly tied together and captures so much of the human experience. I cannot think of the last time that I had so much connection and was so enthralled in a book in this way. I will definitely be recommending this book t0 others and have already added another of this author's book to my list to be read. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley. This was such a gift to read.

Everybody has a story. In the fictional town of Wharton Connecticut that is no different. The old saying be kind because you never know what someone else is going through seems to be one that fits nicely in Wharton. There are several characters carrying around very heavy baggage in town. Some of the stories interconnected earlier than others but by the end the dots will all connect and we will see how kind acts from large to small will have ripple affects throughout each characters journey.

A quiet, heavy read but such a beautiful read that I recommend picking up. His newer book A Quiet Life was another amazing novel that I highly recommend as well!

Another title that got lost in my NetGalley TBR, that I resurrected because the blurb sounded interesting.

This is the first book by Ethan Joella that I have read. A Little Hope is a story told from multiple character's perspectives. Blurbed as a feel-good book, and a Jenna's book club pick I thought it deserved a read.

It is the story of Freddie and Greg, facing his illness. As they come in contact with people in their town, we learn those characters' relationship, reaction, and their own personal stories.

This was a quick, sweet read. Not life-changing, but it also wasn't deep or rough or sad. Sometimes, that is exactly the kind of book you want to read.

*with thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for this honest review.

What a lovely book! Many many characters all intertwined but they were all so well fleshed out, I felt like I knew all of them.

This book entails several Intertwined stories over ten months in small town Wharton, Connecticut. This is a quiet book that packs quite a punch. It is a tale of ordinary people are each dealing with ordinary things but there is so much more to it . We learn all about the trials and tribulations of the residents of this small quaint town. We learn about cancer, death, grief, guilt, fears, infidelit, loss,, addictions, and so many other facets of life.
This book has an emotional intensity that surprised me. Amazing debut novel!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review of this book.

Before I read the book, I saw reviews that called this book "quiet". And it is. There's a lot going on in the book, lots of characters in a small town who all have some sort of connection with each other, but there's not a lot of "Wow!
moments. I think that's what I missed in the book. There was a lot of hype surrounding this book. It IS well-written. It IS an engaging story and I did feel for all the characters. I cared what happened to them, but I don't know that in another month, I'll remember much about them or the book, and I feel bad. I want to love every book I spend time reading, not just like it.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review this book. All opinions expressed are mine and freely given.

I always love a book with many intertwining stories and characters and this book had that and more. It was so exciting to be reading about one character and realize that the story was slowly bringing in another and in a completely organic manner.

A very sweet debut novel about neighbors and families that revolve around each other in a small Connecticut town. More poignant than bittersweet. I once had a discussion with a friend about all the novels with interwoven stories, and she noted that it is easier to write that way. One story leading into another. There are children, and children lost, and loves, and loves lost in this story. On the whole I was charmed. (A couple of asides: I liked the cover when we had this in the store and remembered it. The whole time I was reading it I thought it was written by a woman. A man makes sense now that I think about it.)

This impactful, emotional anthology was a very interesting read. Nearly every emotion I can tink of is touched upon in this book, but most of all, hope.

I understand the impact of an anthology, however in such a short book I felt like I was just barely introduced to each character before their story was over. A Little Hope scratched the surface of a lot of storylines, while I would have enjoyed more depth on fewer of the characters.

I liked the overall message and the author’s writing style, and I will be reading more by him in the future!

Really enjoyed this debut novel. It is a slow moving story over the course of a year (or more). Stories of interconnected people in a small town. These stories are often difficult, sad, even tragic. However, life keeps moving on, and there is beauty among the sadness and happiness to found.

5 Stars!

What a heart wrenching, raw, emotional book that also offers a little hope, aptly named. I loved every single character and felt every ounce of their pain and struggle.

I also loved how this story brought you into the characters lives and asked questions that people don't normally talk about, like a bride not feeling like she wants to put on her wedding dress because her older sister died before she was able to wear hers.

A special thank you to NetGalley, Scribner, and Ethan Joella for providing me with an ARC.

A cute and touching story that touches on the lives of one town. Very reminiscent of Winesburg, Ohio with a new, contemporary take. Its sweet and touching.

There is a lot of struggle in these pages, but it is a lovely life-affirming book overall. I found it immersive: I cared about these people.

Freddie and Greg Tyler.. are so blessed. Good jobs, strong marriage and a beautiful daughter. They have a very good life and I t seems like nothing, can get in their way. Until, Greg is diagnosed with Cancer.. a rare cancer att that. And for all the good.. they are now drowning in sickness. As they start their journey, dealing with cancer.. it seems like most of their friends and acquaintances, are struggling too. They are dealing with addiction, infidelity and death. They all circle around each other.. in this small town and never even realize how similar they are.. That more connects them, than separates them. I really enjoyed how the author told this story. I loved how she introduced us to all these different characters. I enjoyed how they all knew of each other in some way and how they all interacted. And as the title says they all have a little hope. This was a four star read for me and I hope you enjoy it too. Thank you to Netgalley & Ethan Joelle for my copy for an honest review. It was my pleasure to read and review this book.
