Debut novel!! Follows a few people that lives are interconnected through extremely difficult life circumstances. All of which are searching for a little hope.

This novel was written so beautifully and I will be keeping this author on my radar. The dual POV were flawless and never felt like I didn’t know what was going on.

The story felt slow in the middle, but I guess the point of the novel was more contemporary than plot driven. I think I was let down because the first half was so beautiful, I wanted more.

I was sad that this one didn't work for me! I just did not connect with this one at all. I'm definitely in the minority with my feelings, as I've seen so many people really enjoyed it. I threw in the towel at 40%,.

A Little Hope is an emotional read following several different people from a small Connecticut town. Their lives are all entwined in. Each chapter is written from a differet perspective, but it never really felt disjointed like some books are with the same format. The author does a great job developing all the storylines and bringing it back together to one story.

This book will make you cry and laugh…but also give you hope that things will be ok. It will not disappoint.

Thank you, Scribner Books, for the gifted e-copy of A Little Hope by Ethan Joella.

I read this book at just the perfect time. I couldn't get enough of the author's writing and how Joella so eloquently described all of the different ways that people grieve. It was a beautiful story about people from different backgrounds and how they all connected in some way. I definitely recommend this book to those in my life who are struggling or have lost someone in the last year.

Hope follows several residents of a small Connecticut town as their lives dance and twist around each other. Each chapter is told from the perspective of a difference character and they slowly begin to all come together. My favorite reads are puzzle pieces that come together through the story, and A Little Hope did not disappoint.
This book will leave you laughing, crying, and with any luck, a little hope.

A LITTLE HOPE was an emotional, heartfelt book highlighting a variety of characters in Wharton, Connecticut, as they navigate family, friendship, love and loss. The characters' lives interact in unexpected and realistic ways, and I loved each character more than the last. This book made me laugh and cry and want to hug those I hold dear. Ethan Joella's writing is gorgeous - joyful, real, and inspiring. I would highly recommend this book!

Freddie and Greg Tyler are living the perfect life, until they are faced with the biggest battle of their lives. As Greg fights for his life against a rare form of cancer, their friends and neighbors are also facing their own challenges. Each person navigates their issues in their own way, with a little bit of hope.

I wasn't sure I'd like this but I fell in love with all the characters. Beautifully written, each character is well-drawn and relatable. I really could not put this down as each story was revealed and we got to know each person better.

This was a great first read of 2022 for me. I highly recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely adored this story, this town, and its inhabitants. This is a quiet novel but one of the best kind. It's okay that its quiet because the writing is stellar!

Heartbreaking at times, but this story was well written and enjoyable to read. I did put it off for a while because it received so many reviews about just how sad it was, but I did enjoy the story and the emotional feelings of it all. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you to Scribner and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I received approval for an ARC after publication day, so I did not put this book on top of my TBR and for that, I have to apologize to myself because this TREASURE sat unread on my kindle for a month and a half!
I loved this book. Set in Wharton, Connecticut, the story follows approximately one year looking at several different individuals/families who are all connected in the town. Many are long-time residents of the town, and their past and present are explained through the gorgeous writing. The characters are well-defined and realistic. I personally felt each character's pain - and lived for any sporadic joy. As I came to the end of the story, I was overcome with emotion - big tears were rolling down my cheeks as my mouth broke into a smile.
If you love emotional reads, this book will not disappoint. The characters will stay with me for a while. I love that I started the new year with A Little Hope. Highly recommend this book!

Wow! Talk about a debut snd a great way to end my fictional adventures of 2021! In a harrowing undertaking of sorts Ethan Joella @joellawriting writes a multi layered, multi POV novel with characters that not only touch your heart but make you yearn to know they are OK. Through multiple story lines all drawn together by tragedy, a town, and common people known you are riveted to the story. This is not a fast read it is one to be digested and dissected.

You will meet the family of: Freddie, Greg, and Addie. A sweet family filled with love and both hard workers albeit dreamers. Tragedy strikes them when Greg is diagnosed with cancer. Freddie must navigate being strong but also concerned. Then you’ll meet Darcy a widow who is dealing with her drug addicted son Luke. Luke is a free spirit who loves his family and women but yearns for the past. Ginger Luke’s ex is haunted by her past but seeks happiness. Ahmed Suzette and Brandon are gingers friends who help her navigate. Alex and Kay a strong couple but no one knows secrets. They had an early tragedy snd now Alex’s relationship with his daughter Iris can strengthen or tear them apart. As each character navigates their own journey of loss, grief, sadness and tragedy they find that with faith, friends family and love… maybe there is A LITTLE HOPE

Cried and smiled and directly reached out to the author to ask ARE THEY OK? This is a challenging book that will break your heart in the best way possible

Can’t wait to see what @joellawriting does next!! Love this new local to me author. Thanks to @readwithjenna for putting this in my radar. Thanks to @netgalley @simonandschuster for the copy

I finished this book a few weeks ago and was interrupted when writing my review so apologies if it's not quite as good as it should be. This book reminded me of those slices of someone's life you see when riding on a train or sitting in a crowded airport or what you may be people watching. Sadness and heavy emotions seemed the predominant theme in this novel -- not much as to be depressing, but very much in the center of everything. This is a book that you may want to put down and pick back up several times--at least I did. Not quite four stars but better than average (solid writing).

A beautiful well-writen look inside the lives if multiple characters living in the Northeast. Each flawed character is struggling, including Greg with a diagnosis of cancer. You are drawn onto their lives easily and quickly in the novel. I loved it.

A Little Hope by Ethan Joella is a beautiful book about the ways we are connected and the hope we can find even in moments of despair. The book is written in connecting vignettes about a variety of characters who live in a Connecticut town. It moves swiftly touching on the everyday lives and personal triumphs and tragedies of each character. I really liked the quick pacing and the lean storytelling. Sometimes it was a little hard to connect to the characters, but the stories really grabbed me.

Read this book for my book club and really enjoyed it. Discussing it with them really brought it to life!
I did not notice how each character featured in one chapter provided the connecting thread to the next chapter.
It was an incredible and very realistic story, though a bit of a heart breaker.
I greatly enjoyed this, but discussing it with Words and Wine really made it amazing.
Definitely worth picking up and reading as it is quite unique.

Impressive debut novel that brings to life a coterie of characters in a small Northern town, each dealing with their own personal struggles. There is no one central protagonist, but Frederica and Greg are a golden couple whose lives are turned upside down by the husband’s cancer struggle. Greg’s boss is a father figure, community pillar, and a man with a good heart, but harboring a secret from his wife of 50 years. Freddie’s boss is a lonely widow dealing with her wayward son, who has two romantic entanglements, his current girlfriend and his ex, the classic One Who Got Away. The book is told from various points of view and while there are several figures, the author inter weaves their stories well. This reminded me of Little Fires Everywhere (but without the dramatic climax) and 2021’s Good Neighbors. A moving read.
