I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

While this is truly a sweet and fun rom-com, you have to leave your realistic expectations at the door. The premise is adorable. To woo his lady, Zach plans dates from A to Z. The only problem I had was everything happened at light speed. While relationships don't always take years to develop, and I'm not even a fan generally of a slow burn, this was crazy fast. It felt like one day they met and the next they're in love. I feel like a lot of backstory was missed. The characters also weren't exactly my favorite. A little emotionally juvenile, the characters left a lot to be desired. The dates were cute and the idea behind them was adorable, I just felt the connection part was lacking. It took me awhile to finish this one. Just not my fave.

I received an advanced copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ Digital, and Hannah Doyle. ❤️

I want to preface this review by saying that I'm very picky when it comes to romance books, and what I like and don't like.

Having said that, here are my thoughts.

The premise of this book sounded so cute that I was excited to get into it. But unfortunately it didn't work for me, for a few reasons.

Firstly the pacing. I'm not someone who longs for a super slow burn romance, I'm happy for things to move along at a quicker pace, but this just felt too fast for me. Especially with a female lead who was supposedly against the idea of Love. It moved a bit too quickly for the first meeting to immediately dating, and personally I prefer it when the couple get to know each other a little before dating/falling for each other with very little to go on other than looks and initial impressions.

The second thing is that I never really felt like the leads had a connection. Which obviously in a romance, is something you want to have.

Thirdly I didn't really like either of the characters. I found Alice to be immature for her age, and I didn't love the way Zach handled certain situations.

Overall this book did have some cute moments, and I think if you enjoy faster paced romances without much conflict. Then you'd probably enjoy this one.

But personally it wasn't for me.

A cute rom-com, quick read with fun along the way. Alice and Zach embark on an interesting adventure of sorts – go on dates following the letters of the alphabet.
It is a light-hearted, fun read.

I quickly fell in love with this book because of the quirky nature of the romance. I loved the concept of two people randomly meeting and there being an instant connection. Starting with a “meet-cute” at an art gallery, I felt invested in the relationship between Alice and Zach, desperate to see the happy ever after that the cover anticipates.

So, as you might have guessed, there are twenty-six chapters in this book. Each one is a date that begins with the next letter of the alphabet. And for those smug ones out there, let me reassure you that chapter twenty-six does not take place in a zoo! I loved how creative Doyle is with the date themes and locations; each time I thought I could guess what was coming and instead, Doyle takes us on a far more interesting date. To be honest, I thought I should use this as inspiration for real life! These dates were definitely a big appealing part of the story.

Yet, I did fall out of love with the plot because it felt so slow. I wanted a bit more romance, to be honest, and thought that Zach was far too nice for Alice. For a lot of the story, he is forced to tiptoe around Alice for fear of upsetting her. This is not in any way meant to be sinister, but I did get a bit fed up with Alice’s antics. Amongst her friends, she has the nickname of ‘The Bolter’ because she does not settle down to relationships. Alice has a personal rule to not be with someone beyond three dates – which she makes explicitly clear to poor, old Zach. This kind of sets the tone for the rest of the book because it is evident that the feelings are largely one-sided. Zach is quickly invested in his connection with Alice, believing her to be ‘the one’. On the other hand, Alice remains reserved, aloof and almost determined not be happy.

I understood why Alice felt this way. The writer gives both us and Zach an insight into her past and why she tries to keep others at a distance. But with happiness clearly staring her right in the face, I wanted there to be more of a balanced display of feelings, rather than seeing Zach hold in what he truly wants to say. He knows Alice does not feel the same way as he does at the time, which is fair, but I was frustrated by his need to be more closed off to keep her happy. It makes Alice seem more spoiled and like a child having tantrums.

Furthermore, there is a bit of a sub-plot that connects Zach, Alice and Zach’s ex. I thought this would be continued throughout the story but it really only features in a couple of chapters. In my opinion, this could have helped rock the boat a bit more, especially as Alice is working for Zach’s ex girlfriend. Instead, this is more forgotten about as Alice and Zach’s dates continue, which I think was why I felt a bit bored by the narrative.

I loved the premise but thought it started to get a bit repetitive. Whilst the dates are unique and not what I was expecting, the content and declaration of feelings felt too similar throughout. It’s not often I say this, but I thought this romance read could have been more romantic and gushy… although there is always a point when this can be too much. It’s a great idea for a story but I think Alice’s behaviours ruined Zach’s romantic journey for me.

With thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Please note that this book is not for me - I have read the book, However I had to DNF and because i do not like to give negative reviews I will not review this book fully - there is no specific reason for not liking this book. I found it a struggle to read and did not enjoy trying to force myself to read this book.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for the opportunity to read this book

I think the plot of 'The A to Z of Us' is so unique and definitely one I have never heard before so I thought I would really love this but it was honestly quite boring. I think my reading tastes have changed since requesting this book as I no longer read books like this. I did finish it though and just could not connect with the characters or the relationship. I think the plot was interesting though.

I liked the twist in that the fmc was the love cynic and the mmc was the romantic - this is usually played out the other way around in most romcoms. Whilst this showed promise, it didn’t work for me. It’s a easyish read but nothing overly special for me.

Read this so long ago but just realized that my review never went through!! Sorry for the late post - it was entirely unintentional.

This was such a cute, unique romance book! The story follows Alice and Zach, a strangers to lovers to enemies to lovers couple, as they go on a themed date for every letter of the alphabet. It's adorable, hilarious, creative, heart-wrenching, and all of the other things you could ever want in a book. Plus, it was soooo well written. The character development was one of my favorite things about it!!

Might have to reread this one because like I said, it's been over a year, but I remember loving it so much and definitely recommend it now that it's out!!!

Unfortunately I just couldn’t connect with the characters and I felt they had no chemistry, so for me it’s hard to root for them at all.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

I liked this book although I thought the backstory to Alice’s unwillingness to be in a relationship was a little weak. Nice to see books based in the North.

I'd like to thank Netgalley and the Publisher for sharing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I wanted to enjoy this book but it was just ok. It is hard to enjoy a romance when the lead characters don;t have any chemistry.

I love Hannah's writing, and this was a wonderful example of it. It's slightly cheerier than the other of her books I've read, and I loved the idea of the A-Z of date ideas. It's an idea I'll definitely be taking on board.

Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for a proof of this book (which has taken me almost a year to get round to - oops!)

The A to Z of Us follows Alice, a 29-year-old florist and hater of love and Zach, an artist and romantic. After a chance encounter at Zach's art exhibition, the pair instantly hit it off. Since their names have A and Z initials, they decide to go on dates in alphabetical order (art exhibition, bookshop, comedy show, dog walk, etc...). It's not as smooth sailing as expected though, as Alice and Zach have to deal with their own pasts and clashes in personality.

I thought this was fab, it was the perfect balance of a cute and wholesome romance with some more serious themes like grief and divorce, plus plenty of friendship drama too.

I think this was exactly what I needed at the moment. The characters felt so real and it all tied up so well. That ending was exactly what I hoped for after rooting for Alice and Zach the whole way through. 100% recommend!

A fun easy read that I enjoyed. Zac meets Qlice who is a commitment phone and prepares to win her over with a series of dates with themes from the alphabet. Told in both Alace and Zac's voices an interesting fun read, I'd recommend.

I was drawn to this book on account of the title and loved the idea of taking each letter of the alphabet to determine what to do on a date. While I thought this was a great idea, I also feel it is possibly the books downfall. Although not a very long book, the middle fell flat for me and I just didn't believe in Alice and Zack as a romantic couple.

I really liked Alice as a character but Zach annoyed me a little. I would have preferred a single narrative of Alice.

Although I liked this book I didn't love it but it was a quick, fun read overall.

What a brilliant story, I’ve heard of this kind of date idea’s before, but reading about it made it even more special.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

A lovely, well paced romance. Alice and Zach meet and hit it off , so they embark on a series of dates starting from A to Z. However, Alice is against relationships, romance and has a firm three date rule to avoid commitment. Whilst Zach believes in The One, and wants to put his heart on the line and invest in a future with Alice. They go on some good and bad dates and along the way resolve issues from their pasts, and see that enjoying the moment can be a wonderful thing. Lovely characters, fun plot
