I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A book about ecology and animals that we need. Even if you live in the city you can make a difference. Included are some ecology stem ideas for students.

I loved the combination of urban ecology and social justice found within this book. Too often we forget about the wildlife found in more developed areas and just how important they are to all forms of life. This is a great book for science lessons or to simply learn more for fun.

While I liked the information presented in this nonfiction book, I didn’t love the narrative woven throughout to demonstrate the facts. I also wasn’t a fan of the illustrations, but that’s just a personal preference. My seven year old enjoyed reading this with me although it would probably be better for older readers.

This is the perfect STEM book for city kids. It follows city scientists as the study wildlife in urban environments.

I feel like this would have been an excellent publication to utilize in schools, STEM programs, or home-schooling plans. It isn’t in the greatest format to read and teach your children- as it isn’t very entertaining. But if doing home school or your older child is a real science buff- this book would probably work well for you.

The friendly, easy-to-read style and interesting and important information about urban ecology make this book a stand-out title. Not only will readers learn about urban ecology, but they will also learn about the unique tools used by scientists, get a sense of each scientist featured, and read anecdotes and information about their work. Also important are the issues of social equity raised throughout the book. This is a wonderful book for independent reading, but also useful in social studies and science classrooms. Informative and engaging topics about how people and animals live together in urban environments.

This is a fun and informative exploration of an urban ecosystem and what it's like to live there as a human or an animal. I was drawn in by the author's narrative describing her study of bats, but I soon realized this was more than an interesting book about how to be a scientist.

It'd be a good gift for a curious elementary-aged kid, and reading it together will provoke some important learning-filled conversations.

This was an interesting and cool book! I think children who love learning (especially about science) will love this!

This is such a cool book for kids who are curious about everything! If you have a child (like mine) who thinks up a subject and then reads and watches everything they can on it, this will be right up their alley.

This is one of the coolest books I have encountered in a while! I am a science junkie, but the concept of this book is completely original!

There is excellent info on animals, cool techniques that scientists use, and social justice themes are tied in.

An excellent STEM book for grade-school kids, and while anyone would benefit from it- it will do nicely to bring cities into the "nature" mix, something that doesn't happen often enough.
