A very cute graphic novel that perfectly encapsulates the story of Anna Karenina! I loved the artistry in the graphic novel, and the accessibility of it!

'Anna Karenina (Easy Classics)' adapted by Gemma Barder with illustrations by Helen Panayi is a chapter book based on the classic by Leo Tolstoy.

Anna Karenina has a respected husband and son, but she is bored with her life. Along comes Count Vronsky who shows an interest in Anna. Meanwhile, Natasha likes Count Vronsky and Pierre likes Natasha. Who will it end well for and who will it end tragically for?

It's a good adaptation. I'm not sure the themes of love, divorce and affairs would interest the grade level this is intended for, but it's a great story and the illustrations are quite nice.

Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this book. I enjoyed reading this adaptation of Anna Karenina. It had a nice writing style and was easy to read and understand. Gemma is a good author.

I thought that this was a great retelling of Anna Karenina one of the now "classic" books to come out of Russia.

The author has managed to cover the story well in a select number of pages and for those of a younger age than the book was originally penned for. The main parts from the plot were all covered and you got to experience the relationships and dynamics well but as the page numbers are limited and due to the age range you do miss out on some of the content from the full story but it is a really good effort and a great read in its one right.

I would hope that this book would be used for children to read the full version at a later date having been tempted to find out more after reading this one as you could almost read it as a “highlights” book as it gives you an overview and the highlights from the story. I liked the illustrations that were used to bring the book to life - the author and illustrator have done a great job in my view for this one - it is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

An enjoyable and easy read for younger readers. A great introduction to classics and to Anna Karenina. Enjoyable and attention grabbing illustrations.

I loved the adaptations for Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre and really wanted to try another one.
Anna Karenina is one of those storys I really want to experience, but I am not too interested to read the actual classic.
This adaptation made it way easier for me to experience the story, and I loved the illustrations as in those I read before.
But I simply didn't love the story as much as in the other ones. It just wasn't for me and that's okay.

For the most part I find the Easy Classics series to be a successful distillation of classic literature into a form more palatable for young readers. I’ve read several of these now and feel that for the most part they are a good product that captures the essence of the original story while making it digestible for a younger and less informed audience.

This one didn’t work as well for me as a lot of the others, partly because I felt it lost more in the “ease of reading” translation and partly because I’m not sure simplifying the text is ever going to make Anna Karenina a book that will resonate with an audience young enough to need this sort of assist in digesting the material.

While I love the concept behind this series and I think it’s mostly a great way to get kids into the classics at an early age, there are books like this one that it just doesn’t work for. Some things, like Anna Karenina, probably just need to be saved for when a reader is old enough to understand both the themes and the writing in its original form.

Another must read story for any age I would say. We loved it. And I would recommend it to anyone that wants to be enraptured by a beautiful book with lovely characters and sweet romance moments.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Anna Karenina is such a complex novel, even for adults, but I absolutely adored the simplicity of this. Everything was explained so well, and it is far easier to digest than the 1000 page Tolstoy novel (to which I have tried, but still haven't finished after six months).

The writing and story was easy to follow, and I loved that it omitted all of the unnecessary information, and stripped it back to the bare basics, without embellishing too much. It made for not only a wonderful and enjoyable read, but after years of trying to understand AK, a lightbulb finally went off in my head after finishing this book

I think that this book makes the perfect introduction to Anna Karenina, for all readers alike. I would gladly recommend this to anybody looking to read AK, as either an alternative or a prerequisite to tackling Tolstoy's chunky book.

A great way to introduce a classic book to a younger / ya audience. I fully enjoyed this book and will be adding it to my library's collection.

Thanks to Netgalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review

It was an easy read of a classic. It is exactly as advertised! Overall very good.

Easy and fun way to read a classic book. I enjoyed reading this story with my son and the simple summary kept his attention and gave him (and me!) and good, simplified background on this classic.

This is a great book if you want to get the gist of the story before picking up a large tome.

The story was very brief and really just covered the main story plot points and you were able to see how much had been skipped by the jump in the Chapter No’s.

This book would be a definite benefit for children who are not keen readers to be able to do a book review without having to read the complete book but also it may well work as I must admit I am now much keener on reading the book.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Anna Karenina Easy Classics

This is a concise distillation of the epic classic Anna Karenina.
It's designed for children and as such, skims over some of the more adult themes.
Dolly Oblonsky is somewhat misrepresented - there is no mention of her husband's infidelity, only that she is a nagging wife.
I feel like this could have been portrayed differently.
Even if there was a desire to avoid discussing Steva's affairs, the book does examine Anna and Vronsky's affair, so it seems inconsistent to deal with Dolly and Steva differently.
Otherwise, as a brief introduction to Anna, Vronsky, Karenin, Dolly, Kitty and Levin and as a simplified outline of the story it does its job.

I received this ebook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Anna Karenina is one of my favorite classics. Its pretty easy to understand which is saying something since its Russian literature. This easy classics is absolutely perfect for young readers who want to start reading classics but feel intimidated and don't know where to begin. The illustrations were cute and I read it in one sitting. I would love to get a copy of this book for my classroom shelf!

For an adult it wasn't riveting reading, but it was a great introduction to Tolstoy and the story that I enjoyed. It would be a great introduction for the younger readers, for an adult it almost reads like Cliff Notes or a quick summary.

A lovely adaptation! It made the long, classic novel a much simpler read. I definitely recommend picking this one up

After reading Anna K. a few month ago I wanted to read Anna Karenina and see how the both books differ, but I was always intimidated by that huge book. I wasn't able to commit to reading this many pages and when I stumbled upon this book, an easy classic for all ages, I knew I had to give it a go.

The story is about a russian woman, Anna Karenina, and her live as a russian nobel woman in the 19th century. She seemingly has the perfect life, a loving husband, a son she adores and friends who invite her to balls and the theater. But when she meets Count Vronsky and falls head over heels, she realizes that maybe she doesn't have the perfect life after all.

This edition of Anna Karenina is for readers 7 and up. And I think it's a perfect way to bring children nearer to read classic fiction. Even I, as an adult, am always intimidated by the classics. I enjoyed this version immensly and probably am going to check out more of these easy classics.

So when I chose this book I didn't know the serious emotional ride this book in its classic format is so if I am reading this book without knowing about the classics I really commend the way the child friendly language that has been used because this is a complex story and to get it down to such easy portrayal is tough but I love how the team has used graphics for emotions and the complexities of the characters through their gestures which are originally written in the classic. I recommend this even for people who want to read up fast and are intimidated by the size of the original classic but perfect for children. A visual treat.
