Mouse and Mole was originally published in 1993, but was republished in June 2021 by Star Bright Books. I was not aware of this series with a lovable duo, but with this reissue, I'm sure others will find them. In this short chapter book, we have three different stories. The first is about Mole and his obsession with food and eating. He eats everything he can find until he ends up stuffed and with a huge belly. The second is how Mouse and Mole deal with a cluttered house. There is a little bit of a hoarder vibe in that story. The last finds the friends going on a picnic. Mole keeps going back to the house to get things he thinks he might need. Mouse gets bored waiting and eventually eats all the food in the basket. He needn't worry, because Mole comes with a second picnic lunch to share.

This is an interesting book. I found parts of it humorous, but other parts rather boring without much happening. I also didn't like the theme around gorging oneself. This would be an easy book for early chapter readers, but I'm not sure if it would interest them. Overall, an okay read, but not one I would recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this e-arc for me to read and review. Cute cute cute! I enjoyed reading this out loud and even heard a lot of giggles when we got to the part in the picnic where Mole kept running back forth for things. When asked if the kids liked the story I heard a huge yes from all corners. We would love to see more Mouse and Mole adventures.

The stories are great, the illustrations are wonderful, honestly really liked reading these and hope more will be written.

Edit! There is a whole series of these written over the years. :)

Mouse and Mole is a very sweet and gentle story, perfect for fans of Arnold Lobel. It follows friends, Mouse and Mole as they go about their days, spending time together. This story would make a great bedtime family read-aloud.

The illustrations in “Mouse and Mole” are in a classic style that fits the stories well. The mini stories can be read at once or by chapter at bedtime. Great for beginner readers!

Fashioned with beautiful illustrations, and loaded with whimsy, this book gives a modern interpretation of the classic book, Wind and the Willows. Mouse and Mole are best friends to must learn to manage their household. In spite of their differences, or unexpected changes in their plans.

This book is perfect for children who are becoming independent readers. They will love the beautiful illustrations and the silly friends.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to provide an honest and sincere review.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Mouse and Mole is an adorable and funny children's picture book that reminds me of the wind in the willows.
Mouse and Mole are best friends who live together. Mouse is very encouraging to Mole to go out for a picnic but Mole wants to get things done first.
Mole and Mouse had me in stitches throughout this book with their ways! They do eventually get to go on their picnic but Mouse then eats all the food!
This book is so very funny and adults and children will love it in equal quantities.

This is the story of a unique friendship of a mouse and a mole. They lived together and have fun together. It begins with a plan for a picnic tomorrow, but only if it's a fine day. They ended up staying home and do fun stuffs. This taught me that wherever you are, you can always look forward with positivité and have fun.

This little book brings to mind the Frog and Toad books. The dialogue and writing style are very similar. Even the illustrations, though they kind of have a different tone. I thought it was adorable.

In this book, we meet two fun characters - Mouse & Mole. They decide to go on a picnic but only if it's a sunny day. In the four short stories, we get to know how they spend their days while being at home and waiting for the weather to be good for a picnic!
The stories are sweet and will definitely make you smile.

Mouse and Mole is a young reader's book that is inspired by Frog and Toad, which was a favorite from my childhood. There is a framing story about how Mouse and Mole are planning to take a walk and have a picnic, but each chapter is different. One chapter is about how the weather is not nice enough to go for a walk so they spend the day inside, one is about how they spend the day cleaning their home but aren't very successful, one is about hoarding/decluttering, etc. Mouse and Mole are funny at times with how they make these plans but fumble them every time. There were some times where the story felt completely ripped off of Frog and Toad, like when they are overeating. This definitely is not a book to teach kids good manners or life skills - but it is pretty funny and if they like Frog and Toad they might enjoy this as well. Because it was so similar to Frog and Toad and mentions them in the acknowledgements, I could not help but compare it and it did fall short. It's not quite as good as Frog and Toad, but I didn't dislike it either.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

Mouse and Mole, a delight for children and for adults alike.

For children, these are enchanting stories of two friends, who are absolutely comfortable with one another with no competition and unconditional acceptance of each other. What a life lesson. Why are you going on eating? Why don't you stop? No one says that. One day the Mole had eaten on another day the mouse irresistibly ate away the whole picnic stuff but they have no issue with that. We all have clutter, but how hard we find it to get rid of the clutter, life goes on in removing the clutter and adding the clutter. In what a charming way this thought is presented.
Very attractive illustrations and presentation. Children will find them extremely fascinating.
Overall a very nice book.

A sweet chapter book for early readers starring a mouse and a mole and reminiscent of Frog and Toad.

Mouse and Mole is so charming! A delightful mix between Grumpy Old Men, Frog and Toad, and Amelia Bedilia!

The illustrations were wonderful and so detailed - an idyllic garden home for Mouse and Mole. A great volume of short stories to read at once, or over the course of a few story times - Mouse and Mole is sure to please any reader!

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This is a wonderful chapter book for young children. The chapters are short enough that you could read this to a child who is 4 or 5. The picture are really cute.

Mouse and Mole tells the story of two friends, living together and doing everything together. This is a book of five very short (but loosely connected) short stories that give a little insight into Mouse and Mole's lives. The first story talks about the pair going on a picnic, and what happens if the weather is less than ideal. Then they attempt to clean up their home. Each story is a stand alone story, and can be read independently from the others, for those children who may have a shorter attention span.

The whole book can be read aloud to those older children, or those younger that have a longer attention span and understanding. Overall, this book touches on a variety of topics, and will hold a children's attention well, with the shorter "story within a story" model that it takes. I loved the illustrations, and the style really grabbed my attention right from the start.

Thank you to the author, illustrator, publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My 3 and 5 year old loved this book! They loved the characters of mouse and mole and the beautiful color illustrations. My kids sat entranced through the entire story and begged for more once it was done!

First, the good: I loved the illustrations in this book. They're comforting, like a warm quilt on a chilly day.

However, I had a couple problems with the text. Right away, the book felt too similar to Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad classics. The dialogue, the everyday storylines, and even the illustration of the two chairs in front of a fire-- it was all too close to my children's the favorite bedtime stories.

I was most bothered by the stories about food. In child and adolescent development, we know that a healthy relationship with food and one's body is hampered by being taught that certain foods are "virtuous" and other foods are bad. In the story, "Salad," Mole eats a lot and declares that he'll only eat salad the next day. But he goes on to eat salad after already feeling full and decides that because he ate the salad (the virtuous food), he "deserves" to eat a treat. In the next story, Mole talks about exercising and not eating at all one day because of having eaten too much the day before. Mole has an unhealthy relationship to their body and to food.

This is very ill-advised material for a children's book.
Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for a free ARC for review.

This is such an amazing picture book with a good story to share with the children.

The illustrations are amazing. I love the colours. I love the character interactions and the activities they did together.

Such a warm story. The story feels quite wholesome.
