Social behavior on social media is a very interesting topic to me. There is too much politics in this audiobook for my taste, but this is the main focus of this work. At times it was not as engaging as I would like. But I guess the main reason would be the politics theme. The narration was good, but it didn't help much with my engagement. Otherwise, this audiobook is a great study of our social behavior on the internet. The content is interesting enough that I listened to the whole audiobook, and I would recommend it. Especially if you are interested in politics and behavior on social media, you will probably like it even more than I did. 3.5 rounded to 4.

I’m not sure what drew me to this book but I’m very happy I read it. It was different than what I expected but I enjoyed it regardless.

This book takes a look at the role of politics within social media (and vice versa). It included analytical data as well as anecdotal examples from interviews and surveys. I loved the start of the book but I definitely felt disappointed as the book went on. I felt like it wasn't the entire picture — which is fair because the entire picture of political social media is huge and sweeping and changing constantly. I felt like it focused on the user experience of social media and not enough of the effect the social media companies make. Also, the end of the book focused on some potential new social media platform that's expected to solve the problem, and that felt very unrealistic.

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Interesting book, i live (and always have) in a conservative echo chamber (i am not conservative) so, this was worth the read to at least be able to tell myself the people i know really are extremists lol. bumped the score up to 4 from 3.5.

This book included many helpful insights into the Western plight with social media and its nuances. As a listener, the accounts of case studies/experiments wowed me over and again. I think I would have enjoyed this book more in a print or e-book format as some of the non-essential data/reference points became a bit repetitious to the ear. However, this book is at least highly grounded in scientific examinations of a seemingly permanent cultural phenomenon and went so far as to include suggestions for better use and management of its services.

Really interesting take on the role social media plays in social life and politics. There’s a lot of great info to be learned here about the hot topic of social media “echo chambers”. While some of this work is intuitive, other parts gave reason to pause and think again about how I look at social media.
