3.55 stars--HER RENEGADE COWBOY is the third instalment in Lora Leigh’s contemporary, adult MOVING VIOLATIONS erotic, romance series. This is former US Ranger turned US Marshal Levi Roberts, and grade school teacher Lily Donovan’s story line. HER RENEGADE COWBOY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from third person perspective HER RENEGADE COWBOY follows Levi Roberts as he goes undercover in an effort to protect our story line heroine. Two years earlier Lily’s life imploded leaving her a shell of her former self but her past has escaped, and has targeted Lily in the process. Enter US Marshal Levi Roberts, and the man with whom Lily will fall in love. As Levi’s relationship with Lily takes on a more personal tone, Levi struggles between head and heart knowing his duty is to first protect the woman with whom he is falling in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Levi and Lily, and the potential fall-out as Lily’s past comes seeking revenge, and Levi’s secrets may destroy Lily’s new found ability to trust and love.

Lily Donovan suffered at the hands of a man who used his power and trust to destroy those under his control. Lily is stubborn, feisty, sometimes immature and has refused protective custody, and in this, our heroine is often TSTL (too stupid to live), placing herself in the direct line of fire, including trying to save the people she loves. Meeting Levi Roberts meant a possible second chance at a future but Levi’s secrets are one more betrayal that Lily is unable to control. Levi’s latest assignment is to protect Lily Donovan from the threat that is headed her way but Levi never expected to fall in love, placing his heart in danger of losing everything if something happens to our story line heroine.

The relationship between Lily and Levi is predicated upon a lie of omission. Levi is working as a ranch hand in an effort to get up close and personal with our story line heroine but Levi never expected the visceral attraction between himself and Lily, an attraction that may place our couple in the direct line of fire. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Jacob Donovan and Sallie
Hamblen (Strong Silent Cowboy 2),Lily’s sister Shay, Justice Culpepper, and college professor Graham Brisbee. There are some antagonistic feelings towards Justice, Rancor and Pride Culpepper, and I am hoping the author has some plans for a future story line or series for the three brothers.

HER RENEGADE COWBOY is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal, obsession, protection and love. The fast paced, character driven premise is engaging, entertaining and intriguing; the characters are feisty, stubborn and determined; the romance is provocative and spicy.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The cover will draw plenty of women in to read this one. That lovely specimen of the male gender is mouth-watering. Sorry, I know that’s sexist, but he’s supposed to attract that sort of attention, that’s what he’s there for! I like the moody sky they provided for his backdrop, too. It adds tension to the picture, and there certainly is tension in this story.

The man is Levi Roberts and the woman in the story is Lily Donovan. There’s tension between them from the beginning, as soon as they laid eyes on each other at the ranch. Levi is working on the ranch for Lily’s cousin, but he has a secret he’s keeping from everyone for now. His other job. The one he can’t tell anyone about.

Lily is a second grade teacher at the local school and she has a secret, too. Only two people in town know her secret, her sister and her cousin’s wife. And they’ve kept her secret. She’s dealing with the trauma of what happened, so she thinks, but then there’s a crisis she’s not going to be able to handle. She’s going to need help from the very people she turned down last time. Now, she’s gotten close to Levi and she’s afraid he could get hurt, too. Can she outrun the trouble and pain? Can she keep her loved ones from getting hurt? Can Levi catch up with her before she gets herself hurt? Can Levi reveal his secret before someone else tells her? Can Levi keep her safe? Can she save herself?

The story line is great and the writing is good. The characters are well written, but while the sex is hot and steamy, there is some distance that seems to permeate them all at times. It’s as if they’re yelling at each other from the next room sometimes rather than standing there speaking face to face. Not sure what causes that, but it’s there at times. I feel like I should read another in this series to get a better feel for it. This isn’t the first time I’ve read this author, and I know she’s a really good writer. Recommended.

There’s a lot of bravado in this one, both hero and heroine have confidence bigger than life. Just as the other books in the series she’s in trouble and he’s there to protect her. She was attacked a few years ago and her attacker is still out there. The book is laid out pretty cut and dry, first third is cat and mouse, second third so much sex I skipped chapters and last third all the cowboys get involved to save the day. You can read each book separately they are only connected because the main characters are cousins. My copy came from Netgalley.

If you are looking for a steamy romance with some suspense that will draw you into a well written story, Her Renegade Cowboy by Lora Leigh, is the book for you. Lily Donovan has had her share of trauma in the past and it has come back to haunt her. The new farmhand on her cousin’s farm, Levi Roberts, is there under false pretenses sent to protect Lily. They are instantly drawn to each other in a hot and heavy romance. But can Levi protect her and will she forgive him for lying to her? I really want to give this book 5 stars but there were things in the book that weren't very realistic that detracted from the story itself. If you don’t mind if all the little details don’t make complete sense and just want a book that will suck you in with the steamy romance this is a great book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What can I say? If I see one of Lora Leigh’s Cowboys, I just press the Request button on Netgalley.

After One tough Cowboy and Strong, Silent Cowboy we return to Deer Haven to Lily Donovan (yep Jacob’s niece from Strong, Silent Cowboy). She and her sister Shay are thick as thieves. Especially after Lilly was brutally abused and almost killed a few years ago. And now, they are informed that Lilly’s attacker has escaped prison and they want her to go into the witness protection programme. Enter Levi, a former ranger who is specialized in undercover operations. To everyone, he is the new cowboy at Jacob’s ranch. But in reality he is after the man who tried to murder Lilly. She was the one who got away… and the one, whose testimony got him into jail.

But Levi never expected to fall for the woman he is supposed to protect. How can he keep his cover and keep her safe? Find out for yourself in this fast paced story, full of suspense, twist and turns and a dramatic theme about abuse. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Contemporary Romance

Deer Haven, California – Present Day

Former Ranger Levi Roberts is sent to Deer Haven to keep an eye on and protect Lily Donovan—without her knowledge. She was the victim of a vicious crime a few years ago and the murderous perpetrator is now on the run after escaping from prison. The US Marshal’s office offered her a place in the Witness Protection Program, but she turned them down. So, it is Levi’s job to make sure Lily remains safe. He can’t help but be attracted to the luscious beauty with a smartass mouth. The attraction is mutual, and soon they are circling each other like dogs in heat.

Lily has tried to rebuild her life after her attack. She is safe (or so she thinks) living in her hometown with her large family around her. She doesn’t think the man who assaulted her will get near her, but she will be careful. Meanwhile, Lily is intrigued by the new cowboy in town, Levi Roberts. There is a definite attraction between them. However, she must remain vigilant in case her assailant does show his face in town. Levi is helpful and they are soon flirting with each other. Of course, it’s only a matter of time before they are kissing…and doing much more.

Lily and Levi are having fun getting to know each other in HER RENEGADE COWBOY even though a killer may be hunting her down. That keeps the level of tension high in this tale because readers figure he will indeed track her down. Meanwhile, Lily and Levi dance around each other knowing there is a sizzling attraction brewing between them. Hot kisses lead to even hotter sex. They are seemingly perfect for each other, but will the revelation of Levi’s undercover assignment as her protector put a dent in their relationship? Lily prides herself on being independent, which means that she feels that she can take care of herself. However, it isn’t long before our couple is pretty much living together in her house. Just as they are settling into their…whatever…will it fall apart with either the reveal of Levi’s secret or the bad guy finding Lily?

There are a few tense moments in HER RENEGADE COWBOY as both Lily and Levi worry about what is going to happen if the escaped prisoner finds her. Levi could’ve come clean with her earlier but no doubt she would’ve thrown him out of her life because she feels that she can protect herself. Her family is important to her and the idea of going into a protection program goes against those values. The attraction between Lily and Levi is instantaneous and intense. It was only a matter of time before they’re making love. But is there any chance for a future together once the danger is over?

HER RENEGADE COWBOY is a sexy romance with a hint of suspense underlying things. Don’t miss the drama and the heat in this sizzling tale.

After reading the first two books in the Moving Violations series, I was definitely curious about this third book. These first two books left me with mixed feelings, but how can I deny a Cowboy story?!

In ‘Her Renegade Cowboy’ we meet Lily Donovan. Lily has been through something horrible, and she is convinced men can not be trusted. So when she meet the handsome cowboy Levi, she is convinced he is trouble. Levi on the other hand has been crazy about Lily from the moment he first lay eyes on her. But she is definitely trouble and he should stay away from her. The one problem is that Levi simple can’t stay away. There is a connection between them that can’t be denied.

Well.. this book was fun enough, but I didn’t love it as much as I would have liked. The two main characters are fun, and they had chemistry but there was just way to much steamy moments in my opinion. I just need a bit more romance in my stories to really get into it.

The suspense was nice enough, but it only felt like a suspense read near the end of the book to be honest. And I felt myself losing interest a bit.

But I definitely did like the fun little banters between Lily and Levi. Lily really was a character who was able to stand up for herself, and I loved her feistiness. I enjoyed reading about her. And after reading this book, I’m definitely curious about her sister Shay too. She definitely also had something fierce about her.

Overall this was a fun read, but I missed the romance.

I don't know. I'm a bit conflicted over this book. To be fair I'd say that I liked it but I also admit that I had some big issues with it. Overall, I thought it was a good read. There is plenty of steam, drama, intensity and suspense as the nicely crafted story unfolds. The characters were also a split decision for me. I had times I liked them and others when they were a challenge.

The Renegade Cowboy by Lora Leigh, book three in their Moving Violations series, is a suspenseful romance, filled with magnetic attraction, sizzling chemistry, and secrets. Trigger warning: kidnapping and attempted rape.

School teacher, Lily Donovan had hardened her heart from ever dating again; after suffering trauma from a deranged mentor. After testifying at the trial, Lily refused to go into witness protection; needing the closeness, love, and support of her family. Former Ranger Levi Roberts has seen his fair share of deadly trouble during his years as a tough-as-nails operative. Now being one of the ultimate experts in undercover investigations as a US Marshall, he’s been sent to keep a protective eye on Lily, as well as locate a man with a dangerous agenda in town. Noticing her cousin’s new ranch hand, Lily’s carefully-built resolve unlocking the passion she hasn't felt in a long time. While watching over her, Levi enjoyed seeing the feisty sassy side of Lily and can't help but feel the need to protect her. Both are keeping secrets, Lily hasn't told him of her past but when her attacker escapes from prison, Levi is determined to keep her safe. His secret of being an undercover US Marshall is potentially going to push her away but her safety is his priority. This story had some very steamy scenes, with high stakes. I loved seeing Lily own her strength and Levi being an alpha protector.

Ms. Leigh wrote an enjoyable, sizzling romance that should definitely not be missed. They provided a story with off the chart chemistry, magnetic attraction, a caring community, and charming secondary characters helping Lily and Levi get their happily ever after. I enjoyed and highly recommend The Renegade Cowboy to other readers.

I hate not finishing books, but I had to pull that trigger this time at about the 1/2 point. Before I tell you why, I should also point out that I had an Advanced copy, so some of the things mentioned below might have been fixed before publication.

Why I didn’t finish the book…..

1. Timeline consistency….. When we meet Lily, she is a school teacher in her home town. No reference is made to her age, but by some of the other things said about her, I pegged her at around 25. We learn pretty quickly that she went through something traumatic- and here is where things get wonky. At various points the trauma happened 2 years ago, a year and a half ago, last year - none of it is consistent. Add in how Lily chose to deal with things and the multiple time references make things not make sense at all. It became a distraction.

2. Believability…… Back to the trauma. The author asks
us to believe that Lily went through something so horrible that she was offered Witness Protection, but that she was able to keep it a secret from all but 2 people? In a small town?

3. Where is the story?….. Lily and hero, Levi, connect fairly quickly. While I have no issues with the speed at which their relationship developed and became physical, once we reached that point, the rest of the story seemed to fade away. Character and plot development became little blips in between long, drawn out intimate moments that were over the top to the point where I started to skim.

Even with the issues with believability and wondering where the story was, I wanted to finish the book. I wanted to see how things were going to play out. What truly forced me to stop was when I started trying to figure out the time line more than read the story.

Book three in the 'Moving Violations' series by Lora Leigh, "Her Renegade Cowboy" centers on Lily Donovan, a character I first recall reading in book two in the series, "Strong, Silent Cowboy." Lily is a strong-willed, independent woman who harbors dark secrets. A school teacher by trade, she is living life cautiously after a traumatic situation. She has her family to get her through until the day a night out with the gals puts her in the path of Levi Roberts. Her attraction to Levi is immediate but she's incredibly wary plus defensive considering her somewhat recent history.

Levi is an ex-military man on a mission: to get close to Lily. She's beautiful and her excitable temperament arouses his interests very quickly. He likes what he sees and would like to see more thus begins a cat & mouse game between Lily and Levi where Levi is determined to win.

I like Lily and Levi individually as well as together. They're complementary in personality, not to mention Levi is secure in himself that Lily's strong personality isn't something he feels he needs to change nor that he must dominate her. The mystery factors directly in to Lily's traumatic history so the tie in is good but I wasn't really captivated by how it played out. What happened and a resolution is necessary for Lily to heal but it isn't very engaging. The real adventure is Levi trying to get past Lily's defenses.

This romance is fine. As I mentioned prior, I like the lead characters and their love story is solid. I just think the overall story lacks a certain sense of urgency considering the stakes. Still, I think it's worth a read, especially for fans of Lora Leigh, as there are things to enjoy in "Her Renegade Cowboy."

This was an enjoyable read that kept me entertained and intrigued from start to finish with interesting characters and a story that had me on an emotional roller coaster and totally immersed in all that was happening. I loved the instant attraction and scorch-your-skin-off chemistry between Levi Roberts and second grade school teacher Lily Donovan when he is sent to Deer Haven to watch over her while finding a man with a dangerous agenda against Lily. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys emotional and suspenseful western romance. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I liked both of the main characters. They were intense and interesting . Lily was feisty and her sister Shay is even more so. Shay's fierceness leads to at least one really funny confrontation. They both are "bold to the bone." Even if Lily has had some of her courage dimmed somewhat. Her secret has caused her to isolate herself to a certain degree. Only a few people know what happened to her and that's how she wanted to keep it. The secondary people are good ones and most care about keeping her safe.

It didn't take long to figure out Levi's secret although it did unfold well in the story. Levi is solidly attracted to Lily from the first and Lily doesn't take long to be attracted too. She does fight it though because her life is a dangerous mess. I will say that it felt that there was a bit too much repetition about the fact that Levi didn't know how to be in a relationship. Of course Lily admits the same. Still too much time spent on that. Also there is a ton of sex in the story. Well done but more than I generally like. But there is also tenderness and protectiveness as well, so that helps.
When the action kicks it, things do get interesting and lead to a pretty good ending.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The ordeal that Lily endured has changed her and caused her to be closed off and wary of others. Her determination to do the right thing was to ensure that justice was served however she is about to find out that the threat she never shared with others is far from over. She isn’t about to let it control her life so she will focus on her career as a teacher and keep her distance from the sexy cowboy who is working on her cousin’s ranch.

Levi has come to town, and he has an agenda that he doesn’t want to share with anyone especially Lily. He is intrigued by the fiery woman, but he also knows that there is a lot more going on than she is sharing. There is no denying the chemistry between them but will the secrets he holds keep her safe or place her in danger?

Neither Lily not Levi wanted the attraction they felt for each other, but it was a force too strong to be denied. They both made mistakes in keeping secrets from each other as they take us on a suspenseful, emotional and romantic journey.

Entertaining and super steamy! Like the premise of someone after the heroine, and the hero helping her out as they grow closer. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of the whole not accepting help when it’s really needed scenario, and not telling the whole story; especially when there’s a dangerous situation going on. I still enjoyed the story though; a bit more suspense throughout the story would’ve been good, but a fun read. Liked that Lily stands up for herself; she’s dealt with some trauma in her past, so it’s great that she’s a survivor. A sassy heroine is good, but lack of common sense isn’t. Levi is a good guy; love a protective and caring hero! Good chemistry between the leads as well. Liked the ranch setting too! Overall, I enjoy the writing style of Leigh and the story kept me entertained!

Deputy U.S. Marshal Levi Roberts is a retired Army Ranger and part of a fugitive recovery task force. He's undercover trying to protect Lily and apprehend an escaped convict.

Lily Donovan is a teacher, she's feisty, prickly and independent and since her she was almost murdered over a year ago. She's determined to maintain control of her life and refused to go into Witness Protection. She hasn't completely recovered from the emotional turmoil of her attack, but she's determined not to play victim.

Lily barely escaped with her life when she was attacked by a rapist and murderer at her college campus. She returned to her small town to heal, finish her degree and start teaching, where she felt safe. When she meets a cocky new cowboy hired on at her cousin's ranch, she pegs him as a player and plans to avoid him. The problem is he's the first man she's been attracted to since the attack.

Levi loves feisty women, and what starts out as a job to protect quickly turns into an attraction he can't deny. He just needs to convince her to give him a chance even if he's risking his job to do it.

These two can't seem to keep their hands off each other but both are keeping secrets and there's a man out there determined to get revenge on Lily for her part in putting him behind bars.

I've enjoyed many of Lora Leigh's books and was surprised at how choppy this story came together. Transitions were rough and abrupt at times, causing me to have to go back and re-read sections thinking I'd missed something. Some scenes made it hard to suspend disbelief as they seemed out of character, unrealistic or too stupid to live given the situation. Lastly, the title really didn't seem to fit the story.

The bones of the story and many of the characters are interesting but the execution wasn't what I've come to expect from this author.
