After a year of a long distance relationship, Leo and Alice move together to London in a beautiful gated community. Though reluctant to leave her countryside cottage, Alice is ready to make a new change for her future with Leo. The neighbors are all very kind and the home was even a great bargain for reasons unknown to Alice.
Alice begins to make friends with her neighbors and tries to find a new place for herself. After an unexpected visit from a private investigator, Alice finds out the last resident of the house was a therapist who was murdered. She comes to find out Leo kept this one important detail from her about their new home. A murder suicide occurred in the bedroom, explaining why the homes pricing was so low.
Alice finds out the victim is named Nina; the name of her late sister. She kicks Leo out of the house and becomes immersed with finding out the truth. Nina’s husband, Oliver, killed her and then killed himself or so that is how the story goes and what everyone is led to believe. She wonders if the neighbors know more than they’re letting on or if they even had anything to do with it.
As she decides if she should stay in the house and forgive Leo or to move away, she begins to slowly piece together information to figure out the truth of what really happened that night. Meanwhile, strange things begin happening in her home. She notices misplaced items, odd noises, and the feeling of being watched during the night. As things spin out of control, she is unsure if she can trust her new neighbors or even Leo. She turns to the private investigator, Thomas for help since her neighbors might be hiding something else from her too.
As the story progresses, new information is learned and Alice soon expects everyone around her as the possible killer. The readers are right there with her wondering who to trust or if anyone is even trustworthy. The plot twist will definitely come as a surprise and keep you flipping through the pages until the very end. This is a fast read and will be perfect for a beach read this summer. I’d like to thank St. Martins Press for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Therapist was a great listen! It had suspense and self-discovery, of course...it's called The Therapist,
Alice and Leo move in together after dating and living in different cities so there is a lot to get used to. But when Alice finds out that a murder had occurred at their house, thus the "good price" , she is taken aback and doesn't think she can live there. Then, she starts suspecting each of her neighbors and even Leo of committing the murder.
The narrator was excellent and the story kept me wanting to go on walks so I could listen some more. There were clues left along the way that all made sense in the end. Another great mystery from B.A. Paris.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advance listen in exchange for this honest review.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. It kept me guessing and suspecting everyone! I think the best thing about the plot was that it was creative and unpredictable. I liked the feel of the host of characters from the neighborhood all being suspicious.
The narrator was good. Her voice was pleasant and easy to listen to, but I don't feel anything about the narration was distinct.

Avery good read with a great twist. I think my favorite part of this audiobook absolutely has to be the narrator. I would love to hear her read many more.

I enjoyed listening to the audiobook.
The main character was a bit frustrating and hard to like but the story kept my interest. I love when thrillers keep me guessing on who the bad guy is. I would think I had it figured out and then BAM! surprise!
This is not my first book from this author and it definitely will not be my last!

First, the book was going well...the new house in the Circle and all the neighbours and their secrets was interesting...Even though I could not relate to Alice's obsession over Nina's murder, the storyline was captivating...Needless to say, who I had suspected as the whodunnit was wrong...Then things start happening and BOOM!!! you don't know what hit you...What an ending!!! I would have never suspected it! Great book, definitely will be recommending it to my friends!
The narrator was great. I love her accent and how she would change her voice at times for the different characters.
Thanks NetGalley, MacMillanAudio, and BA Paris for the ARC!!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read this book! I love B.A. Paris and as soon as I see a new book by this author I immediately look forward to reading it. They are great audiobooks if you are looking for something to keep you engaged, with lots of twists and turns. This newest book did not disappoint!
As all B.A. Paris books go, it's full of mystery and has a main character who second guesses themselves a million times. Is Alice losing her mind? Is she truly living in a gated community that contains a murdery secret? Is one of her new friends not only involved, but could they have done it?
I will be honest, I figured out the person responsible halfway through but that in no way spoiled things for me. Highly recommend if you are looking for a book to suck you in!

this is the best audiobook i have listened to in a long time - i especially loved the narrator - she drew me right in!
the story was really very good too! I was surprised by the ending.
So many good characters in a beautiful setting.

Another very twisty thriller from B. A. Paris. Alice and Leo get a great deal when they buy a house in an exclusive, gated community in London. Not long after they move in they find out why, and you can guess what comes next! With only 12 houses in The Circle, everyone gets to know each other very well, but there's still lots of room for secrets.
This story sure kept me guessing, everyone looked guilty at some point and I kept changing my mind about who had done what to/with who else! The audiobook narration is fantastic. I love Olivia Dowd's accent and she tells a great suspenseful story that had me jumping out of my skin in places. I was totally surprised by the ending and thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Reviewing
The Therapist
B.A. Paris
Who else has been eagerly anticipating B.A. Paris’ July 2021 release of The Therapist!?!? I was lucky enough to grab an advanced reader copy and I’m happy to report it was as just as intriguing and radiant as her former publications.
Readers are fully immersed in the close knit, family feel, of the exclusive community that Alice and Leo join after purchasing their dream home. As they come to know the other occupants of “The Circle” Alice discovers a disturbing, grisly secret about her beautiful new home and now she can let it go.
Secrets, jealousy, obsession, and revenge all play a part in this fast-paced, entertaining, and contorted tale of The Therapist!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars with a 14+ rating for another riveting summer read from B.A. Paris

This one is a pretty standard domestic thriller. There’s a twist at the end, you’ll see it coming—sort of—but it’s still...okay. There’s no rhyme or reason as to why its “The Therapist,” could have been literally any profession with as much as that frame story mattered. I listened to the audiobook compulsively, the narrator is incredible and I loved listening to her. It felt like talking to a friend on speaker phone. Would I have enjoyed this book as much had it not been an audiobook? Probably wouldn’t have made it past the first “main character unreasonably upset about something inane to drive the plot forward” trope. There was an excessive use of tropes in this one.

I struggled with finishing The Therapist unfortunately. I wanted to love this one, but I felt like it was slow and all over the place.
I think the only reason that I stuck with it was because it was an audio book and I could listen to it while doing other things.
I will try other books/audio from this author, but this one didn't work for me.

The Therapist by B. A. Paris is a suspenseful thriller that kept me guessing. Alice and Leo moved into an exclusive gated community in the shape of a circle. What Alice doesn’t know is something happened to the former resident, a therapist. Alice is determined to find out what that is and becomes instantly obsessed with finding out as much as she can. Her new neighbors are also pretty shady and she doesn’t know who she can trust. Great read.

Narrated by Olivia Dowd and Thomas Judd.
I had high hopes for this new book by B.A. Paris. After all, her novel The Breakdown was my favourite read this year. I was not disappointed. She's a master of building up the suspense and making us care for the characters.
When Alice and Leo move into their new house in a gated community, everything seems perfect. Until Alice discovers a secret that turns her life upside down. She makes friends with her neighbours, but can she really trust them? What exactly is Leo hiding from her? Should she stay? Should she go?
I listened to this on audiobook and I truly enjoyed it. Olivia Dowd has a nice, clear voice perfect for it!
I did figure out halfway through who was the villain, at least I suspected it, but the beauty of Paris' writing is discovering the how and the why. Definitely another great read from this author!

4.5 stars! Thank you, B.A. Paris for redeeming yourself after The Dilemma! This was way more of a whodunit and not half as stress-inducing as a mere misunderstanding.
Alice and Leo have just bought a house in an exclusive neighborhood of London called The Circle. Of course, things don't really work out with Leo once Alice realizes that he lied to her about a murder being committed in the home they've just purchased and renovated. Alice becomes obsessed with the victim, therapist and former owner of the house, Nina Maxwell, and finding out the truth of what became of her. Did her husband really kill her and then commit suicide? Or was something more sinister afoot? I honestly had a hard time figuring out what really happened because, as with most of B.A. Paris's novels, things get twisty and topsy-turvey pretty quickly.
*Thank you McMillan Audio and NetGalley for the early audio file of this brilliant novel.*

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Very captivating with amazing character development. A woman moves in with her new love only to find a disturbing truth to the history of the house. And a even more disturbing history of the neighborhood. Who can she trust? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The therapist is a psychological thriller that happens in a closed gate community. Alice and Leo move into a gated community called The Circle. Alice begins to like the place and her neighbors when she finds out that the previous resident Nina, the therapist was brutally murdered in that house. When Alice starts to ask questions about Nina to her neighbors, she is sure they are hiding something.
What I like about The Therapist is that there is always something minor happening and it holds your interest. The circle and it’s characters are pretty diverse and interesting as well. I think we are always curious to know what happens in our neighbors life and this book piques on that curiosity in a good way. I liked reading it for the most part even though the mystery part of it progressed slowly.
The problem with the story is Alice itself . Like the protagonist of every other B.A.Paris novel ( specifically The Breakdown), she is so stupid as well. There were lots of huge eye roll moments. If you could bear with Alice’s obsession, nosey behavior and stupidity, this book is not bad at all.
The twist at the feels extremely unrealistic and I was able to guess it Miles away. Nevertheless, this was a decent read. Pick it up if you are looking for a quick , mindless read.
The audiobook version is great and I loved the narrator. I highly recommend it .

Thanks to Macmillan Audio for the ALC.
The narration of this book was absolutely wonderful. The narrators did a great job adding suspense to this dull story.
I listened to the first 40% and then skipped to 85% and felt like I missed nothing and the entire ending made sense. This book dragged on and on. I feel like there just wasn’t enough suspense. Alice also seemed like she had no common sense. Not my favorite of this authors.

"The Therapist" tells the story of Leo and Alice who have joined an exclusive community called The Circle. But there's a secret about the house that Leo has hidden from Alice, and when she finds out, the story really begins.
I didn't love the premise because personally I found Alice's reaction to Leo's omission to be a bit radical, but once I suspended that judgement it was a good mystery. The twists and turns kept coming the entire time and author Paris' does a great job of creating characters that are easy to visualize. I also love the setting of The Circle that she set up.
A solid thriller that will keep you turning the pages.

I'd like to thank Netgalley for an advanced copy of the audiobook. This is my honest review.
This book is a 2.5 for me, but I am rounding up because the audiobook was a pleasant way to experience it.
"The Therapist" is my first time reading a book by B.A. Paris. She's been on my radar for a while since I generally enjoy a domestic thriller. They're a good bit of mental junk food for my brain to chew over before I take a deeper dive into something else. I'd say this one was a good beach read/listen. In fact, listening may be the better option. Earlier in the book, there were a lot of moments that were slower-paced because it was the same information being given to you on repeat. So, it's just the same information you already know with little to no variation from how you'd heard it before.
The pace doesn't pick up until the last quarter of the book. Even this felt a little slow because I had figured out who the murderer was long before our narrator did. SPOILER: In fact, I was baffled why she wasn't suspicious of him the whole time. I would have been. I guess since she was a little hot for him, she didn't bother. Rings a bit hollow to me, but Alice also seemed daft, so ...
There were some intricacies to the murderer's backstory that I hadn't figured out, but none of that left me shocked. I don't think this book has turned me off from books by the author entirely, but I won't go into them expecting anything more mentally nutritious than a bag of chips.
