⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ THE THERAPIST by B. A. Paris: Do not walk, RUN, to get this book! I have enjoyed every single book written by this author, and this one did not disappoint! So many great twists and turns, this book had me guessing right up to the very end. B. A. As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before.

Fast read that kept me entertained but I wasn't overly thrilled with it. I found it a little predictable and overall didn't like the characters which made it difficult.

I've heard rave reviews from friends so it definitely could be that this just wasn't a good fit for me.

The Therapist is a book that has twists and turns and will have you having your eyes bug out once revelations are provided throughout this thrilling novel.

I both read and listened to this book and the narration by Olivia Dowd and Thomas Judd were done very well and they had me wanting to reach for a bowl of popcorn while taking in the life of Alice.

Alice, the protagonist, tries to uncover the truth behind the murder that happened in the home she just moved into. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Alice’s because of her lack of self-control and somewhat lack of intelligence, I did feel bad for her when neighbours in “the circle” weren’t helpful at all to her.

Overall, this was a great thrilling story where the many secrets that are kept will keep you on your toes!

Alice and her boyfriend, Leo, have moved into an exclusive area in London called The Circle. But, it is not as it would seem…Alice discovers a secret about their house…and Leo knew it!

Secrets…this story is full of secrets and lies! Everyone is lying to everyone else. But, as usual, there is a twist at the end that I did not see coming. Now, I am not a huge fan of Alice. I just did not find her as smart as she should have been and she is a tad bit dramatic.

I loved the dual narrators, Olivia Dowd and Thomas Judd. They both did excellent jobs with all the voices and the drama!

B.A. Paris has done it again! Need a good twisted thriller…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this audiobook from the publisher for a honest review.

This was a pretty entertaining domestic thriller and a fast read/listen. Alice and Leo move into a gated community and quickly are in the middle of neighborhood secrets and drama. Something happened to the woman who lived in their home before them, but what? The plot keeps you guessing and seconding guessing. Alice’s gullibility was frustrating and almost tiring at times, but not everyone is Sherlock I guess. This wasn’t no means jaw dropping or exhilarating to read, but it’s a solid story that did its job in entertaining. 3.25 stars

I found myself very much in disagreement with most of the main characters choices. Like watching a scary movie and wanting to scream “don’t go in there alone you dummy!” But I couldn’t stop listening, so there’s that...

Addicting for sure.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my E-ARC copy of this book.

Imagine moving into a lovely new home only to find out that a gruesome murder had taken place a year earlier. That is what happened to Alice.

When Alices’ boyfriend, Leo, finds a beautiful home in ‘The Circle’ for them to share and begin their life, Alice cannot pinpoint why she feels so uneasy. She soon learns about the murder of Nina and the suicide of her husband Oliver. Feeling drawn to the death of Nina, she begins to look into the murder and suddenly every neighbor is a suspect with a motive. Including her own beloved, Leo.

I was way too invested in this book! As bad as Nina, I had a reason why each one was the murderer. The ending was not shocking, but the exact story was. If you love a good who-dunit, this is for you. I listened to the audiobook but I also have a physical copy, it was that good.

This audiobook was extremely well narrated, but the story lacked a bit for me. I found it a bit predictable having read her other books and although it passed the time just fine, ultimately I was left a little bit disappointed in the ending.

Based on the description, I thought this book would’ve been similar to something like The Silent Patient. As I learned about this neighborhood circle, it kind of reminded me of When No One is Watching and other parts had me thinking of The Girl on the Train. While this book shared similar elements with existing thriller novels, it was its own story. Personally, I would’ve liked to see the fiance more in this -- he had more of a laid-back role and his sketchiness and laid-backness felt questionable but slightly convenient for the plotline. Also, the revelation about his truth threw me off -- I felt like a lot of issues could’ve been avoided and despite his reasons to hide, it felt unnecessary. As for the main character, she felt a bit naive though still brought up some valid concerns. Overall, I thought the ending was a bit predictable and the story itself wasn’t something that blew me away, but it was still an interesting page-turner!

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my copy!

I appreciate the free audiobook but I’m also thinking what did I ever do to you? The point if there even is one just circles the toilet again and again and you’re left thinking all I want to do is flush this turd but I can’t. Suspense is good but pure nothingness is unacceptable. I hate to not finish a book but was relived to pull the trigger on this one.

I received this audiobook from Netgalley for my honest opinion. I enjoyed listening to this book, and was actually surprised by the ending! I love thrillers and this one is recommended! Alice, the main character has her own secrets, and when she moves into “The Circle” with Leo, there are more and more secrets within the neighborhood. All the characters were likable, and I was guessing until the very end!

The Therapist is a spine-chilling thriller that have you looking over your shoulder to see if someone is watching you! Do you know your neighbors or how well do you know your significant other? Would they ever lie to you or keep the truth from you? Alice finds out very abruptly that no one not even the man she loves is capable of telling the whole truth. The Therapist is full of lies and deceit so you will never know who to fully trust or believe. There are even times that you think Alice might be losing her mind only to later discover she seems to be the only one thinking logically. The house Alice and Leo moved into within a gated community, known as The Circle, holds more secrets then she knew or anyone is willing to talk about. This makes Alice even more determined to find out what happened in the house and who is Nina? After all with neighbors like these who needs enemies. Just the name The Circle has me wanting to run from this community - so what will Alice do? Does she stay to solve the mystery of the house or will the mystery of the house get her first?
The Audio version of this book was told by Olivia Dowd and Thomas Judd. They were amazing and keep me on the edge of my seat. When the story heats up you actually can feel so connected to Alice due to Olivia's wonderful way of bringing the story right into the room with you.

It seems exclusive neighborhoods are the theme of the summer. Alice and Leo move to The Circle, a gated community, into a fabulous house. Only after moving in does Alice find out there was a murder that took place in her house and Leo didn’t mention it.

Alice starts digging into the murder and learns it was a therapist named Nina. While the story is told mostly from Alice’s voice, there are chapters with the therapist and an unknown patient. Leo travels for work leaving Alice alone in the house and she starts to investigate what happened. It seems none of the neighbors want to answer any questions about the murder and the more they evade her questions, the more desperate Alice becomes in trying to figure out what happened.

I’m not a huge fan of naive or too trusting characters, and that is what Alice is. I couldn’t quite figure out why she continued to investigate and stay alone in the house when the stakes became so high.

I spent a good part of the book going down the rabbit holes the author set up and falling for many a red herring, I did finally figure out the murderer before the reveal.

I listened to a lot of this book and I must admit that kept me going. The book is narrated by Olivia Dowd and Thomas Judd. Most of the narration is done by Olivia and she does a fabulous job drawing the listener in.

While it isn’t a terrible book, I just couldn’t get over how naive the main character was.

After being disappointed with my first BA Paris, I was worried for this one. That being said, I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this one. The characters weren't my favorite (in either story really) but the thrilling aspects in this one really were worth it.

HAPPY PUB DAY!! For all the BA Paris fans, I know you’ve been waiting on this one!!

I got so lucky and got an advanced copy of this book on audio! I was so excited, but unfortunately, it just didn’t do it for me.

To start, the narrator was amazing and so fun to listen to. I am sold on any audiobook if they have an accent. But, it lost me at the plot. It had very very little to do with a therapist and more to do with a tiny neighborhood. It reminded me so much of “such a quiet place” by @meganlmiranda but it just wasn’t done as well.

BA Paris’s strengths is that’s she’s always playing on our real life fears and that’s how I relate to her writing so often. This one did contain a ton of high stress situations that had me hanging on until the end, but it just wasn’t enough! I had a hard time connecting to any of the characters, especially the main character, Alice, who was soooo annoying. She was just too dumb of a main character to root for. She made the wrong choice every single time.

Overall, I think I have the unpopular opinion here, if you are a fan of BA Paris, give it a shot!!

A huge thank you to @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for gifting me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The premise of this one was interesting, but it wasn’t as engaging as I was hoping. A lot of the book was either thoughts the narrator was having about the mystery or conversations she was having with various characters about other characters. This meant that there was little action and more ‘telling’ instead of ‘showing.’ The pace also could have picked up more if each new scene didn’t start at the very beginning of two or more characters meeting, so that there’d be less conversational filler before getting to the meat of the drama.

Due to the execution of this one, the book just didn’t work for me, but others who are fans of Paris or slow burn domestic suspense may really enjoy it!

It’s out now.

Thank you Macmillan Audio for the ARC!

The book had a slow start for me, but eventually it started to pick up and I became invested. I thought I had the book figured out in one area, but I was wrong so that was a nice surprise. I didn’t guess the killer either which is another good thing. I did enjoy the way everything was wrapped about in the end. This was a solid suspense story by B.A. Paris.

Audiobook Review:

I enjoyed listening to this narrator, but I would have liked more emotion towards the ending of the book.

Probably would give this 3.5 stars if I could. It was good, but it wasn't earth shattering. A psychological suspense thriller that will keep you guessing. Small London community drama, secrets, strange coincidences, and paranoia. I really enjoyed this one on audio. I think it might have been a little slow and repetitive if I had been reading the physical copy.
