Pronouns can be confusing for adults to understand so I love the idea of teaching kids from a right age. Not only are they being taught to respect everyone's gender preferences, but it also allows them to think about their own gender identity.

This book is such a refreshing thing to see, honestly, and I'm grateful for the chance to read it prior to it's release. I'll definitely be buying a tangible copy at some point once it's available to buy.

It's aimed at informing children of all things gender-related, which is beautiful to see for once, and it's done right without bias or misinformation. The use of language is perfect, not too childish, but also simply written and easy enough to follow for people of all ages. The illustrations also aren't too childish, either, which helps make the explanations throughout that much clearer to visual, impacting on the reader in terms of how someone of whichever gender may or may not look, and to help put across that judging someone by their appearance alone isn't always that telling of who or what someone is. It makes the reader stop and think, and young children who are often curious to begin with will no doubt consider this information and ask questions. The two work together beautifully.

There's also some words of advice for adults at the back, plus a glossary of terms, and helpful tips when it comes to teaching the subject matter.

Overall, I think this book is perfect for learning about gender identities for both children and adults alike, and it's also helpful for those who experience being trans/non-binary who've never known this information or the terms and meanings to explain their identities. More books like this should be out there to help everyone learn, to impact positively on people's lives and spread information rather than fear and hate, and to offer help and advice all in one go. It would be nice to have this book reach schools and be taught to children from an early age, and I would recommend this to any parent, especially if they themselves aren't all that well-informed.

(Some of the pictures in the version that I have are missing, which messes the formatting up in places, though I assumed this isn't a problem with the final edit, and there's some use of UK English amongst the US spellings, so I'm not sure if that was intentional or not.)

This is a super cool book, it's helpful to kids and adults alike, and to anyone who has no idea what pronouns are, how to use them and why it's important to get them right. The book itself is completely illustrated, using illustrations to show each person and their pronouns underneath, also conversations between the characters.

I hand on heart believe this book should be in all libraries, and schools, it's essential reading and really educational in the world of pronouns and gender identities. It's explanations are simple and easy to understand, there's no confusion, it does exactly what it set out to do.

If you know someone who has no idea about pronouns, or doesn't see the point, or quite frankly refuses to use them, then buy this book for them, it will educate them in the most basic of human decency and we all need more understanding and kindness in this world.

The Pronoun Book, written by Cassandra Jules Corrigan, is short and sweet.

It explains the concepts of gender identity, assigned genders, sex and pronouns in a way that is easy to understand, without overwhelming the reader. Corrigan explains, gives examples and compares different terms in such an easy and respectful manner, that makes it easier to understand the importance of these terms in our society and the future our youth. I am impressed by how Corrigan has managed to acknowledge and expand on terms and pronouns that are not commonly used, while stressing the importance of having an open mind, an open heart and respecting both yourself and others.

I love the glossary, tips and templates provided at the end of this book, that helps parents support their children and educate those around them. Not everyone is the same, and it is important that we teach not only our youth, but everyone of this reality.

I would definitely recommend this book to parents, teachers and children. In fact, everyone should be exposed to this book.

The Pronoun Book is worthy of a 5 star review.

I just read this book in my lunch break and I must say, it really made my heart smile! Books are amazing tools to open conversations with kids and this book did an amazing job at that, while not talking down to the reader.
The drawings were cute and colorful and the people presented was diverse.
Another thing I really liked about the book, was the information for the parents in the back - really good idea for parents, who don't know much about pronouns and gender themselves, but still want to teach their kids!
However, as far as I know, the sentences like "I was assigned female at birth, but I identify as male" is incorrect, since what people identify as isn't male/female, but man/woman. I don't know if it was done on purpose as to not bring sex vs. gender into it and make it more simple, which would make sense.
This is the first book I read about pronouns for kids, but I feel like it would be more interesting for kids to read and engage in, if the book actually had a story and not just a bunch of facts about what is what and how to be respectful. For example a main character at a play ground meeting kids with different pronouns than what are assumed and that way teached kids not to assume and to just ask instead.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and wished books like this had been read out lound to me as a kid.

The Pronoun Book is a short guide to pronouns, told through comic-style drawings with definitions and scenarios. The book is a straightforward yet comprehensive overview of gender identities, covering the cisgender, transgender and non-binary identities, common pronouns and who might use them, neo-pronouns, how people might choose their pronouns, intersex, misgendering and asking people about their pronouns.

The information is communicated clearly and concisely through a diverse range of characters who help to explain and illustrate how different pronouns are used. Although necessary and inevitable in a book on this topic, the number of definitions (and some of the less familiar topics, such as neo-pronouns) may be overwhelming to readers who are new to this topic. However, the plain language and engaging illustrations make this book accessible to a wide range of readers.

I would recommend that younger readers read this book with an adult who can help with pronunciation and further explanation. This book is ideal as an introduction to the topic of gender identities or as a reference guide for those already familiar with the subject.

I really enjoyed my reading of this book. I am a reviewer and a parent, and I really appreciated the resources and templates at the end- I will recommend this book mostly because of those- they are very valuable.

The book itself is also great! It's simple and straightforward, which is perfect for kids. The illustrations will appeal to a variety of ages- they are colorful and interesting but not too juvenile.

Thanks for the sneak peek! A great book to add to a growing collection of books on this topic- so sorely needed!

The Pronoun Book
She, He, They, and Me!
by Cassandra Jules Corrigan
Review

Packed to the (age appropriate) gills with timely information about pronouns, gender diversity and identity!

This is such important information for children especially to know ! And I’m so thrilled that it’s getting into their hands from these ages, imagine how many kids will be able to see themselves in books like these!

Likes:
- the art! I loved how everyone was drawn!
- the colour palate! It’s very soft and gentle!
- the information is presented in a very accessible way and I don’t think that children 5 years and up will have trouble with this at all!
- there were sample letters to the teacher and friends of your children inside, and that’s just so doggone helpful!

Dislikes
- I did think that the neo pronouns might be a bit too abstract for children, but I welcome the chance try explaining !

Would I recommend this?
Yes, both content and art, are lovely!

A must have for every parent and educator!

The information is passed to the reader in a very clear and informative fashion. Although geared towards children I myself found this extremely useful! I feel more confident using pronouns and my 7 year son now has a lovely grasp on the terminology; Especially with the handy Pronoun Chart and Glossary of Terms at the back of the book.

Loved it! Thank you to publishers for this ARC.

This is the book every educator needs on their bookshelf. It is exactly what you want it to be and more. Clear. To the point. Gives examples and explanations with enough information to be clear but not to swamp the reader. The narrative/learning journey is led by two diverse characters/cartoons who introduce themselves through speech bubbles. They take you on a tour of all the ways pronouns can be used and the different ways that people can identify. Throughout the book you meet a range of people who also use speech bubbles to introduce themselves. It is very positive, and sticks to being clear and informative about language use, rather than including statistics or data about discrimination or suicide rates.

Beautiful artwork throughout makes it engaging and visually pleasing. I like that key vocabulary such as 'non-binary' and 'intersex' etc are displayed bigger and pop.

As a teacher I would use aspects of this book from Year 2 upwards. Some of the earlier pages lend themselves to teaching about pronouns within English lessons for Year 2 and basic inclusive vocabulary. Some of the later pages take you more into lower KS2 and up and link to learning about 'sex' (as in your sex cells) within the science curriculum.

Closely aligns with PSHE/SEALs/RSE curriculum. I will be buying a copy when it is released.

The colourful cover and the title caught my attention, so I decided to read this book. Let me tell you how much I adored it! The information was provided in such an accessible, clear way, without becoming difficult to grasp the meaning of all the terms. It also contained examples which is a great tool to clarify everything. The illustrations are gorgeous and added colour and diversity to the book!

We should aim for children to read this book, either in classes or their homes, so that the next generations can be more inclusive and understanding. Despite that, I believe it's a great book for older people too, in order to get a better understanding of gender identity and pronouns.

Thank you to NetGalley for the preview of the book!

This book is such an important book not only for children but for all ages. Especially as an adult, we do not always understand others, our children & maybe even ourselves. And now more than ever we need to develop better culture and diversity of those around us.

As an adult, I work with customers and with people all over the country and sometimes the world and it is important that I use the proper pronouns. I was very happy that my corporate company encouraged us to put our pronouns in our signature to allow others to know how we would want to be referred to.

I love that the illustrations were warm and welcoming. They used examples that made it easy to understand for any age. I also liked in the back of the book that there were resources for adults to continue learning & to continue educating a young one in their life.

The bright cover and title caught my attention right away and I knew I had to read! This was a very quick and easy- but highly informative- read about gender and pronouns. I really enjoyed the colorful art style and how clear and concise the information was. I also loved the addition of the glossary and pronoun chart with some neo-pronouns included, as well as the sample letters for school/parents and general tips and resources for adults. A quick note: in the page introducing intersex, the book made it appear as if only intersex people use neo-pronouns but that's not necessarily true. A quick phrasing change would fix this mistake! Overall, a very good read for adults who want to start a conversation with younger ones about the importance of respecting everyone's pronouns! :)

Thank you NetGalley and Jessica Kingsley Publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

While this book is aimed at children, I would recommend people of all ages read it. The material is written in a way that makes it easy to understand, provides resources for adults, as well as additional reading material. The illustrations are adorable, I love this artist's style!

This was a very to the point book for talking about pronouns, I liked that a lot. The illustrations did a great job of showing the diversity of people in the world and pointing out that you shouldn't assume someone's pronouns based on how they look or dress. I also really liked the list of pronouns at the end as well as the glossary of terms. I think this book is a very helpful tool for children and adults to learn about pronouns.

This is a bright and positive book designed for children, and presented in an accessible, simple way with plenty of diversity (as you would expect!). It’s not a bad start in terms of explaining pronouns but seems slightly confused. The book is presented in a colourful cartoonish style that will appeal to very young children but it isn't a picture book/read along book for young children. Older children that might be coming across children at school who are unsure of their identity or choosing to use a different pronoun & who would therefore benefit from the book may not appreciate the very childish style.
I think this book would benefit from using a few more examples/mini stories of “this in action”. An incredibly long pronoun list was supplied but not really discussed in terms of why people might choose to use these or even how to pronounce them, and I think this could lead to further confusion. It also didn’t address the issue of “they” being used as a plural & the difficulties some people have in using this in the singular (one tip I have heard is to imagine the person with a pet hamster in their pocket or a bird on their shoulder whilst you get used to using “they”)

Overall I think this book is a step in the right direction, and could be one for parents to buy & pop on a childs bookshelf for them to discover when the time is right/to open discussions but its not quite hitting the right audience in its current format.

This was such a bright and positive book taking a look at pronouns. It would be a great introduction for children learning about pronouns, and is a quick and simple guide for teens and adults, too. The other resources provided are great for parents, especially the Pronoun Chart. I was not aware there were so many options for neo-pronouns.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is an absolutely great book for children and adults alike. I learned some things from reading it and I felt that it was presented in a really approachable way. I also liked the diversity (ethnically speaking) of the characters in the book.

I for one have learnt something from this book. It is very informative, opening my eyes to not just the pronouns that I knew where being used but some that i had no idea about. There is a pronoun chart and glossary to back up the descriptions of the terms used within the book. I definitely think that most parents would stand up for their child in this matter.
This would be a great book for teaching and class discussion for all ages, although I'm specifically thinking about primary age as that's what I know about most.
