I was granted eARC access to The Pronoun Book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What drew me to this book to begin with was the absolutely stunning illustrations, however after reading the synopsis I was hooked and knew I wanted to read it. As someone with a future in education this book is a must. The Pronoun Book is written in a way that young kids will easily understand, which makes it useful in an educational setting, however not in such way that adults can't benefit from it as well. Not only does this make me want to hand out a copy to each of my future students, but it also makes me want to hand out a copy to every teacher and parent.

The of related interest book list, pronoun chart, parent help section - these were just a few of my favorite thing!! I loved loved loved this book. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. This book should be required reading for anyone who doesn't understand the importance of pronouns, whether that is a 3 year old boy learning for the first time or a 67 old man who needs to be told for the 100th time. Illustrations were lovely and non-fiction as fun writing. I will definitely be buying a few copies as gifts when this publishes.

This was the cutest book I have ever read! Recently, I have had a difficult time telling adults in my life why it is important to not assume others' pronouns and now I have the perfect book to visibly show my thoughts. The information was simple but impactful with wonderful graphics to tie everything together. I loved this book and so glad I was able to read it!

Love the imagery and the concept very much! This should absolutely be in all classrooms because it explains pronouns very succinctly and very well for the age group. It's definitely a book that needs to be read with an adult as some of the language used by the Casey character is more advanced.

As an educator and a parent, I really appreciate this book. I work with parents who are going through this learning journey of pronouns with their child and I will absolutely recommend this book to them. I particularly liked the section at the end that gave some useful tips and templates for parents/guardians to use in communication with schools and parents of their children's friends.

The only 'note' I'd give is that many young children (under 10) who haven't explored ideas of gender would struggle with some of the vocabulary, for example 'assigned', 'biological sex', 'fluid' when discussing people etc. This shouldn't be perceived as a barrier; rather it just means that parents and teachers should treat this book as a conversation, as it is bound to raise loads of important questions.

Thank you so much Netgalley for this digital ARC!

It's much easier to teach inclusive behaviours, than it is to unlearn narrow-minded thinking. This book is an excellent step in the right direction, it's important to teach kids inclusiveness from a young age, and this book is a perfect guide for parents, to have these conversations in ways that are not confusing or obscure. How you want to be addressed is important, and everyone deserves that basic respect and decency. The book has a lucid glossary as well. Recommended for kids from ages 3 onwards, either to read on their own, or as an activity both parents and kids can do together.

Title: The Pronoun Book
Author: Cassandra Jules Corrigan
Illustrator: Jem Milton
Genre: Children’s Book
Pages: 32

QOTD: What are your pronouns? Mine are she/her.

The Pronoun Book is for children 5+ and is the perfect introduction to pronouns. It’s also a great primer for adults who are still learning about pronouns. The book includes scenarios such as introductions, pronoun etiquette, they/them pronouns, trans and non-binary identities, misgendering and neo-pronouns.

The information in this book is presented by two guides – Ellie and Casey. While this book is geared at children, it could also be very helpful for adults and explains many scenarios in an understandable manner. I love the range of scenarios provided such as what to do if you use the wrong pronoun, how to ask someone about pronouns and how to correct someone who uses the wrong pronoun. I also learned about neo-pronouns from this book and will do some more reading on them.

The illustrations in this book are gorgeous and colors are vibrant. I loved the 80’s vibes with the color selection on some of the pages. I also love how inclusive the illustrations are. There are multiple races, ages, and religions portrayed throughout the book. As a member of the queer community, I LOVED how the illustrations incorporated the flags from our community such as the trans and non-binary flags.

The book also includes some helpful resources such as letters parents can use for teachers or friend’s parents about their child’s pronouns. There is also a glossary of terms and tips for adults.

I absolutely love this book! I’m going to buy this for the small humans in my life. My only complaint is that I wish this book was being released before Pride this year. Please consider buying this for the small people in your life (or for yourself!), recommending at your library, and buying for your classroom libraries.

Text was a bit pedantic, illustrations were okay but not incredible. Overall, the quality is middle of the road, and it's easy to find much better books on the same subjects.

This book is wonderful! The topic of gender identity/biological sex can be a difficult one to comprehend as an adult, making it even more intimidating for adults to try to explain to children. This book is a good resource for starting that conversation and introducing children to the wide spectrum of identities they will meet in a lifetime and teaching them respect and decency towards others. I also appreciated the discussion about language being ever-changing, which I think is an important point for anyone to remember.

I was most impressed by the tips for adults and additional resources in the back. I wasn't aware of many of the neo-pronouns and found that I learned something new and useful for myself in the process! I think this book should be read by all ages.

Huge thanks to Jessica Kingsley Publishers and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

A useful teaching moment about gender, nonbinary identities and intersexuality and the courtesy of using a person's chosen pronouns. This is aimed for children but some adults may learn a thing or two too. This book is purely an educational pamphlet and works as such but it could be more engaging reading if it told more of a story.

I read an Arc from Netgalley.

Not everything in this book is correct and the wording in a few places is off. Genderqueer is described wrong in the story but correct in the index.
I like the adult resources at the back and that neo pronouns were included.

This is a wonderful book that explains pronouns in a simplistic way for children to understand. While it's geared towards younger readers, it's also very educational for adults as well. It reviews the different genders, explains cisgender vs transgender, and also explains neopronouns. The book also includes a table of pronouns, as well as sample letters for parents to send to a teacher or the parent of their child's friend, in the event they need to explain their own child's pronouns. The book does a great job at introducing the topic of gender and pronouns, and that's very important for children in developing empathy for others.

Well-written book for all ages, explaining the importance of, courtesy, and explanations for identifying people by their preferred pronouns. This may be a controversial book with some parents so teachers and counselors may want permission before reading or discussing. Including the parents may also be a courteous and encouraging way of discussing this topic.

My library doesn't have much for this age group in the way of pronouns, so I thought this was great. It's easy to understand and even young kids will learn from it. The artwork is attractive.

A great book to introduce younger readers to the concepts of gender identity as well as teaching proper pronoun usage. The resources for adults at the end of the book are particularly well written as they reinforce the use of correct pronouns as a right not a privilege.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for making this available..

This was so informative! This a great book that everyone definitely needs to read, and it should be incorporated for educational purposes. For people who struggle with learning and understanding about pronouns this will help you learn. It's an easy read and the different pronouns and genders are taught so easy and simple.

I hope alot of people get the chance to read this!

As I was starting I thought it was really helpful, but half of it and I was really confused. If I was, I can't imagine kids.
Anyway, the reason why I didn't really like it was probably because my first language isn't English. That's why I don't think neopronouns should be a thing, and this book didn't change my mind. I will be reading more about neopronouns but I think by now it's just confusing and useless. (That doesn't mean that if I ever meet a person with neopronouns I would disrespect them and call them anything else). So half of the stars for a book that was half-helpful in my experience.

This is a great read for adults as well as children. It gave me new knowledge on this topic which I am grateful for as a future teacher and I would definitely use this in my classroom because of the simple and clear explanations of everything making it great for kids too. The beautiful, colourful illustrations in it also make it attractive to children which is great! I love that it includes a very helpful glossary and a list of different pronouns and forms of them at the back.
