This is a cutely illustrated, partly rhyming children's picture book about a girl who needs to learn some patience.
Her mom has promised to get Cora June a special treat and she can't wait. She also needs to wait for her turn to speak at class, and handle her disappointment when the store was out of Unicorn Yak slushies. The moral of the story: "good things come to those who wait. / Being patient makes you great./ Breathe in deep and count to ten. / If that doesn't work, try it again." That is memorable and it makes for a lovely teaching moment between adults and the children they're reading this book with. .

Some of the dialogue is a bit repetitive and I think awkward for the sake of the rhymes. Like Cora June's slushy order: "I would like my favorite slushy/ from your Slushy Shack. /It's topped with sprinkles and cotton candy. /They call it Unicorn Yak!"
This is not a very natural way to state your order to the person who works at Slushy Shack and puts the sprinkles and cotton candy on top of the Unicorn Yak they're selling you.

This book is a great tool for parents to help their children learn to wait for things they want or want to do. We sometimes forget we tell children to be patient without giving them the tools to do that. This story gives Cora June some tools to help her learn to wait for the things she wants. The story keeps repeating Good things come to those who wait but gives suggestions of things to do like deep breathing and counting.
Cora June is very excited to go get her favorite slushy after school and she just has to tell everyone. The day drags on at school, mom is late picking her up, the line is so long. But perhaps the worst thing they were out of her favorite and she had to come back another day. But good things come to those that wait and she was rewarded the next day.
Beautiful illustrations go along with this story. Also there are parent and teacher tips at the back of the story to go along with the book. I can't wait to share this story.

The Illustrations were very cute and perfect for the story. I have a five year old that loves everything unicorn, rainbow, and sweet so this is right up her alley. She also has a hard time being patient. The simple rhyme that is repeated throughout the story is a great lesson for kids. I also really appreciated the parent help section at the end of the book with some tips about teaching kids patience.

I wasn't a fan of the fact that there wasn't rhyme scheme throughout the book. It felt choppy when there were parts that didn't rhyme.

Overall this is a solid book for kids and I'm considering purchasing a copy for my daughter.. I'm just in love with the illustrations.

Julia Cook always writes books that teach good SEL lessons. This one on patience is just as good as her others. The book talks about Cora who “just can’t wait”. The book offers strategies (counting to 10) for calming down while waiting. Patience can be a hard topic to tackle but this book will make it easier.

This book does such a great job of explaining patience on an age appropriate level. As a parent of two young girls this is something I deal with on a daily basis. I thought the illustrations where really well done and thought out, my seven year old got a kick out of the unicorn slushie and would like one of those in real life 😂 really great learning tool and I'll definitely check out some more books by this author

This book is very cute. The illustrations are bright and inviting. I love the message about patience. The refrain on patience is something catching that could engage younger children. The lesson was a bit didactic and heavy-handed, but overall I enjoyed the book.

This picture book is designed to be used as a companion for teaching lessons on life skills and the qualities that we want people to exhibit; this one is about patience. I particularly enjoy the illustrations in this one, and I think the little rhyme that Cora June learns to help her practice being patient could be used by parents or teachers who are trying to teach patience to the kiddos in their lives.

This is a good book on patience for children. The story is entertaining for a child and has short sentences and lots of pictures. Kids will enjoy this.

Well, a good lesson there for kids.

But sadly I don't believe in the saying, "Good things come to those who wait." Instead, "try your best and take opportunities head-on and rest well" is my motto for myself for years now.

Love the idea still. The illustrations aren't that appealing considering it is a picture book. But I love the colour choices.

Thank you, authors and the publisher for the advance reading copy.

“Good things come to those who wait” is a great book to teach kids that patience is key! It’s worded in a way that will be understaffed easily, and the illustrations were great!

Patience is an extremely difficult skill for many child to learn and fully understand. In Good Things Come to Those who Wait, Julia Cook uses repetition and clear examples to fully express the construct. This book would be great as a read aloud with any elementary level children. I also loved how the author gave tangible tips on teaching patience for parents and educators at the end of the book!
