The Spires by Kate Moretti was a quick and easy read. It’s been twenty years since Penelope has seen or heard from any of her college friends and housemates. She is married and has two wonderful kids and a great life. She gets a letter from Willa, one of her friends from college who is running from an abusive relationship, who wants to come visit but things are not always what they seem. Penelope and Willa both are hiding secrets and trying to avoid talking about what really happened when they and several of their friends were housemates right after college . Thanks to Netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

4.45/5 shining stars for Kate Moretti! With each book I am amazed at her writing, this book was completely different from her last but the way she develops her characters and brings them to life on the page, you can feel every bit of their emotionsi and a book with multiple characters I think is impressive.

The Spires focus on a group of friends who take a break year after college. One of the friends has an old church that’s been converted to a home. They decide to all live together, calling themselves “The Spires”
A fire occurs breaking the group apart. 20 years later Willa shows up at Penelope’s barging into her life asking for help escaping an abusive relationship. But is that what really happened? Soon Penelope begins to feel Willa may want more than just a place to sleep.

The book moves back and forth from present day to past. Emotions mount and tensions rise. It was definitely raw and different from any other book I’ve read but Moretti knocked it out of the Park with this one.

There is a reason Kate Moretti is one of my favorite thriller writers. Her books are just so easy and smooth to read. I never get bored, I endlessly think about them when I’m not reading them, and I’m always somehow surprised. The Spires was no exception. After I finished it, I sat back satisfied, like after thanksgiving dinner. I cannot wait to read more from her.

This book was easy to read. I finished it in afternoon, but the twist at the end was ridiculous and farfetched and most of the characters were unlikable. I did like Penelope and Flynn, but we never saw Flynn again after his time in the Church. And Penelope's children seemed lovely, as did Jamie, but he was only a minor character as well.

After twenty-years Penelope receives a letter from her old college friend and roommate after college, Willa asking to get together and catch up. Things take a turn when Willa comes for a visit. She claims she was abused by her husband and needs a place to stay for a few weeks until she can figure things out. Things don't go as Penelope planned and it seems Willa has a devious agenda.

This one took me sometime to get into, but once I did, I had a hard time putting it down. The characters were not all likeable, but the story line was excellent. I enjoyed the bit of twist at the end, that I didn't predict.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was amazing!! The base story of friendship itself is well done but add in the twists of a thriller and the story is on a whole other level. So well done and keeps you guessing.

Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review of the book. This is the first book I’ve read by Kate Moretti, but I’ve heard great things about the Vanishing season, and this book did not disappoint me! In flashbacks of past and present the story unfolds and you gain suspicions of Willa, who sought refuge from her abusive husband. Great read, and an unexpected ending.

This took me several days to read. While I enjoyed parts of it, I found that much of it (the "then" sections) was slow and could have been left out. It wasn't much a "thriller", at least for me. I had figured it out way before the reveal.

This was the 2nd book I've read by this author. It was just okay for me.

Thank you #netgalley and #thomasandmercer #amazonpublishing for the earc.

I really enjoyed this novel. It’s extremely well written drawing the reader into the story within the first few pages. A very interesting mystery with lots of twists and turns along the way will keep you guessing until the very end. I highly recommend to those who enjoy a good and nail biting thriller novel.

Multi-Layered thriller that is expertly written and told. I loved this and couldn’t wait for the climactically written.

Penelope Cox’s old roommate is in dire need of a place to stay. Fleeing an abusive husband, she begs Penelope to let her stay with Penelope and her family, two weeks, max. Struggling with holding her own family together, Penelope reluctantly agrees. But Willa brings more than a suitcase, she brings memories of a time Penelope would rather forget. Memories of the time she and her friends, “The Spires” lived life like they were immortal, but of course they weren’t and the deadly consequences of their actions are now about to be exposed

I enjoyed this story and didn't predict the twist at the end, which is always appreciated. I grew a bit bored with Penelope's younger years and thought some of that could have moved along a little bit quicker. This was 3.5 stars for me, rounded up as the writing was solid.
