Reporter Marshall Montgomery is investigating the death of a teenage girl in Wakan Canyon. The more information he uncovers, the more things are not as they seem. Marshall's colleagues Diana and Anne, as well as his love interest Samantha, are helping him uncover the truth about what happened to this girl when things take a supernatural turn.

This story was kind of like a really long Supernatural episode. It has a little bit of everything: mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, romance. I found it pretty enjoyable and I'd probably read more from this author.

This book wasn't bad but I wouldn't say it was so good and unforgettable either, so 3 stars is just fine.

I enjoyed the pace of this book very much, and the surprising jolts on every turn, I was so happy to have the audiobook of this one because it really doesn't give you a break here, you're on your toes almost 95% of your time reading this.

The writing style is pretty neat, and makes me want to read more by this author, I also appreciate how the dog was portrayed here, I wasn't annoyed at how many times he was referred to as 'roommate'.

the characters were well written, with backstories and all. some side characters kind of bugged me but all in all, not bad at all.

I was so annoyed at the cliché of the love interest here, because she is just absolute perfection, isn't she! no, really, she's smart, curvy, into cars and all the fantasies of a man are in her! Don't get me started..

Solid read, and has multiple genres integrated in it, horror, romance, fantasy and sci fi, I recommend!

Thank you NetGalley for providing an AudioBook ARC of this one.

Immortal Legacy by Jonathan Yanez
Narrated by Tim Paige
Publisher: OrangeSky Audio
Genre: Sci Fi & Fantasy
Publication Date: June 1, 2021

Immortal Legacy by Jonathan Yanez is an interesting fantasy book. This is the first book I've read (listened to) by the author so I wasn't sure what to expect.

I got really excited when I thought this was going to be a deep dive into Native American legends....instead we got a quick glimpse and kinda moved on.

This book fits so many genres. It's a murder mystery, it's paranormal fiction, it's suspense, and it has a little romance (ok, more like flirtation).

This was an interesting book. I found it to be really interesting. It takes strange twists and turns that actually work in the end. I enjoyed the narration by Tim Paige.

I look forward to reading more by the author. I am definitely intrigued by this book and looking forward to reading more.

I'm so grateful to Jonathan Yanez, OrangeSky Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

When a young girl is killed in a hit and run, Marshall Montgomery is determined to find who killed her and why people are acting incredibly suspicious and evasive in regards to her death. As he delves deeper into the truth, he finds out that nothing is as it seems and learns secrets that he could never imagine in his wildest dreams.

I did enjoy this novel a lot, it was engaging and campy while still being a pretty good plot. A lot of what happened in the book I did not predict which made it an exciting read with some good characters. I liked that the characters were all fairly realistic and likeable but also had a touch of fantasy written into them. They were pretty stereotypical tropes but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The last quarter or so of the book was incredibly fast paced and overwhelming (not in a bad way) with all the new things we were learning with Marshall.

3/5 stars. I think it is definitely worth a read if you are looking for a fun, campy thrillers. Thank you to Netgalley and Jonathan Yanez for this copy to review.

What to say about this book...well audiobook... It's funny and different. This was my introduction to Jonathan Yanez. Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't this. I think the cover threw me off. I was expecting dark and sinister. Don't get me wrong in someways it is quite that, but it was just so perfectly fantastic fantasy where boy becomes the hero and gets the ultra sexy girl and superpowers. Like the Greatest comic book hero for Urban fantasy fans.

It was actually fun to listen to, lighter and in good humor in a way I'm not used to in Urban fantasy. Full of action and crazy bad luck.

There was of course the super secret society, demon dogs or was it a hell hound? Don't confuse them, it makes them super angry. Mushy faces, the coolest roommate ever (an awesome dog). The boss from hell. The annoying coworker that's actually really great. Good cops and bad cops. Cool cars and a sexy mechanic.
All in all it was a fun read/ listen.

Tim Paige narrated perfectly for the feel of the story. His voice is great.

I received this ARC of #Immortallegacy from #NetGalley and #oranfromgeskyaudio. All opinions are my own.

This book is about Marshall. He is a reporter and there has been a body found with sliced wrists and ankles yet it was said to be a hit and run. He begins trying to find out what happened to her and meets Samantha and her grandfather as he is questioning people that live near the place the body was found.

This book was interesting at first and then it lost me. It became less interesting and odder as I listened to the rest of the book.

This book is a supernatural thriller.

Immortal Legacy is a a high energy fantasy novel following Marshall, a journalist whose interest in finding out more about a local death pulls him into an entirely new world of cults, the supernatural world and immortality.
This book seems to be the first in a series, setting up the grounds and main characters for the books that will follow. I thought that the book felt that way especially, as the "rules" of this world were clearly laid out and set up for the next novels.

While I enjoyed the book, I wasn't fully drawn in to the characters, so I hope there will be more development on that end for any following books to come. This is a good read for anyone who likes supernatural series that haver a mystery and thriller element.

I listened to this on audio and thought the narrator did a good job of telling the story.

This book has so much going on and yet I am stumped on how to begin my feedback. I guess the story will be a good starting point.

Marshall Montgomery, a reporter, is unduly upset by the death of a young girl in a hit-and-run accident near a mysterious place called Wakan Canyon. As he tries to investigate the matter, he realises that things aren't what they seem and the truth is out of this world, almost literally. Aiding him on his quest are his new crush Samantha and two of his office colleagues Diana and Anne. The plot soon affixes itself into the supernatural and Marshall finds himself questioning the past and dreading the future.

On the face of it, the book had almost everything: thrill, horror, romance, fantasy, drama... The author unwinds the story at a fairly quick pace so there are not many deviations from the main plotline. Till the 65-70% mark, the storyline is steady. Then there are some sudden changes in the narrative that make you wonder where things are going. But soon you realise that everything links back into the book reaches a fairly satisfying denouement, which promises more to come in the series.

SFF tends to use its animals very cruelly, so I’m happy to report that the two dogs in the book don’t get mistreated. I loved Shadow! And I loved how Marshall kept calling him his “roommate”. Most of the characters are really well-written, with a clear backstory and their motivations. The pace of the writing is its biggest advantage as the author keeps the accelerator going till the ending, not allowing you to relax till the book is done. If I had to stop my review at this point, the book would have been a solid 4.5 star read for me. But I hope you know me by now. If something displeases me, I can be a real bitch.

The book seems to be written with the new adult age group in mind and unfortunately, the writing tries too hard to please this set of readers. I loved Samantha’s character, but I hated the way she was written. Samantha is an intelligent, capable, and brave young woman and yet the adjectives most commonly used to describe her from Marshall's viewpoint are based entirely on her physical appeal. If the book were some erotic romance or some cheesy chicklit, I might have let this go. But when I'm reading an SFF novel, I would prefer a book focusing on the skills rather than the structure of a woman. This isn't the worst example I've seen of #MenWritingWomen but it's still pretty bad. Male authors seem to try and fit their female lead characters into the woman of their fantasies: curvy-shaped in the “right” places, intelligent, gorgeous with supermodel looks, kickass brave, and, an extra “wow factor” in this book for men, a car lover who also loves Star Wars and video games. Jeez! You could have kept at least some of your dream woman’s qualities in reserve for the sequel, dear author. Deducting a whole star for the chauvinistic writing.

Other than this, no major issues. Only minor ones with teeny plot holes and secondary characters. Nothing so grave that it can’t be ignored.

The audiobook is narrated by Tim Paige. And he is fabulous! The right tempo, the right enunciation, the right voices, the right pauses. He made the 8 hour long audiobook fun to listen to. I’m beginning to trust all audiobooks by OrangeSky Audio. Nothing I’ve heard from them so far has had a bad production quality or poor narrators.

Thank you, NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio, for the Advanced Audio Review Copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

My rating: 3.5, rounding up to 4.

3 stars. Meh.

Marshall is a 23 year old reporter. A recent death of a young woman reminds him of a personal loss. While investigating, he uncovers a group of supernatural beings.

Narration was fine.

Roommate was used way too much.
