For book 41 of the year, I decided to start reading Jenny Tyson’s ‘The Art of Scrying & Dowsing’.
Rating: ★★★★☆
🗝 I have to admit that this one took a while to get through as it was quite technical.
🗝 Once I got into it, I enjoyed the case studies and the no-nonsense style of Tyson’s writing - this is a straightforward how-to, don’t expect any fluff.
🗝 I would definitely recommend this book for those of you who are looking for practical, step-by-step instructions for learning how to practice scrying and dowsing.
🗝 I appreciated the options for working low key in public spaces as I don’t think it’s very practical to keep our spiritual practices confined to our homes - sometimes, the only time I can get to practice is on the bus or in a cafe.
Some of the main ideas covered:
→ What is Scrying?
→ What is Dowsing?
→ What is a blind target?
→ Why do I need a grab bag?
→ How do I get started?
→ What kind of targets can I work with?
🗝 I think this book would work better as a workbook, and for that I lowered the score a bit.
🗝 In order to get the most out of the book, I suggest you make time to actually try out Tyson’s techniques so you can experience it for yourself.

This book has a really unique take on scrying. The author uses blind targets for scrying which obvious to prevent biases. For me this was all completely new information. The author offers a formula for remote viewing and esp that is pretty foolproof.

I could tell by reading this that the author was very passionate about teaching others how to use her techniques to get the most accurate readings/viewings. The author mentioned that she used these techniques in classes and group settings with an almost 100% success rate. To me that is pretty astonishing!

Most of this book covers scrying exclusively, which the remaining chapters focused on dowsing. The author states that she uses dowsing for yes/no questions. The scrying methods she uses are very well described and could be used by almost anyone in any setting.

One thing that this book really needed, and that it just didn’t have, were pictures. A few diagrams of what the author was describing would have made this an easier read.

Not Your Mama’s Scrying!

This intriguing book offers a completely different way to scry than what you might have ever imagined or done before. The author has created a system that she states is easy to learn and more accurate than traditional methods. One keystone of her unique way is to have a hidden target. This is to free you from the constraints of your conscious mind, where you might try to influence—intentionally or unintentionally—what you might see or hear. The author goes over multiple ways to apply her methods to all aspects of life (personal as well as outside the normal constraints of space and time), even including case studies, which I find both helpful and fascinating. This book caught my imagination with its possibilities, and I look forward to continuing to work with her concepts about scrying and dowsing (which she uses when a question has only two answers). Most of the book is about scrying, which makes sense as it is more complex than dowsing. However, if you have an interest in either topic, this author's take on them is revitalizing and refreshing... and she passes on great techniques to add to your spiritual/occult/metaphysical quiver.

There was a lot of great insight packed into this book. I really enjoyed the ways to stop bias from entering into the equation. Since that was often where my doubts about scrying and dowsing live the strongest I found myself now eager to give everything another try using several of the methods. I also liked that there were more than technique to scry presented. That allows room for personal preference. This will prove to be a wonderful resource that I am sure I will come back to again and again as questions arise.

Tapping into the subconscious needn't be a mystery anymore. Ms Tyson has written a clear and practical method of remote viewing and scrying, as well as dowsing, She has her own method which she graciously teaches in this book. Why this is so wonderful it that it works Ive found.I could not find a lost card that was important and I really needed it. I used the method that focuses on three points and got the idea of a receipt. Then it occurred to me I had thrown away the card with a bag and a receipt. I found it again and was very impressed. This book has a LOT to offer to those who are discovering the miraculous information available to those who know how to get it. From the mundane and betting to the spiritual and tarot cards this book is a treasure trove of real methods to learn more about what lies behind the obvious.
