First, thank you to the publishers at Macmillan-Tor/Forge and Netgalley for this e-ARC of Her Perfect Life.

Her Perfect Life revolves around news media star, Lily Atwood, and her seemingly perfect life. With her producer, Greer, her daughter, Rowen, and her nanny, Petra, Lily’s life can’t get any better. She’s even getting insider tips on hot news stories from an informant that only goes by the name “Smith.”

But Lily’s life is far from perfect, because when she was just seven years old, her older sister, Cassie, disappeared, never to be seen again. It’s been over 20 years, and Lily still looks for her in every face she comes across.

That’s when things begin to turn sinister. Smith begins encroaching on Lily and Greer’s lives, saying they have information about Cassie that nobody knew about until now. If word gets out about Cassie, Lily’s perfect life will go up in flames; the scandal of it all!

This is a slow-burn novel. The action is slow to start but quickly picks up the longer you read. So many new angles are introduced, and quickly, so it was a bit hard to remember all of the new details, but by the end, most of the answers were revealed to us.

I really felt Lily’s emotions during this read. She’s nervous, jumpy, and constantly on the lookout for danger, not only because of her job and fame as a news woman, but because of her sister. I also enjoyed the fact that the author didn’t feel the need to drop F bombs in this book. She is also a pro at bringing the story to life with her impressive and colorful use of language. I could see every detail in my head!

If you enjoy books with a good twist, or in this case, twists, then you’ll want to grab a copy of Hank Phillippi Ryan’s new book, Her Perfect Life, set to release September 14!

Wow! This is one twisty ride that will have your head spinning and the pages turning at blazing speeds. Lily is a TV journalist and social media darling, who’s been riding the wave of successful tips from a confidential source. When that source suddenly provides a tip that’s too close to home, Lily’s world is upended. The story goes in many directions, deftly interspersed with a “before” backstory that pulls everything together. Rockin’ roller coaster good, with tons of suspense that you’re ridiculously eager to see where the plot goes next. One of the best I’ve read this year. Absolutely 5 stars! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this one a lot, BUT....I usually LOVE Hank's books. The story was interesting and had a really cool twist and a nice wrap-up so it's hard to put my finger on exactly what kept me from loving it, but my main issue was believing that any 18 year old could be that naive. C'mon! Just blindly accepting and not ONE question??? I can't go into detail without spoilers. I was also hoping for a little more from both Greer and Lily. Lily is extremely self-centered and Greer keeps her "perfect" while secretly resenting her. I was hoping for a little more from that relationship, I guess. Again, no spoilers. I also felt that both Greer and Lily were a little too naive to be a seasoned producer and reporter. But all in all, a good book and I look forward to more. I also suggest you read all of Hank's previous books.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Hank Phllippi Ryan and Forge Books for this ARC!

Possible spoilers ahead:

This book is my first DNF in a very long time. I gave it to the halfway point, but I just couldn't continue. I just really didn't like it. The characters were flat, the mystery wasn't intriguing, and the suspense just wasn't there. I didn't like the fact that of the three different narrators, two were written in third person and one in the first person. I just felt like that was messy and somewhat confusing. I didn't connect with any of the characters. To me, this story has been written many times and this was a terrible version. Lily was annoying, whiny and acts like a spoiled brat. Cassie just seems to make one stupid decision after another. I don't know what happened to her and the book wasn't interesting enough to make me want to find out. And, Greer's disappearance was weird, as she was the first person viewpoint. I really didn't care what happened to her. I'm probably in the minority here, but I just didn't like this book. It was a chore to read and I would doze off after a few pages.

Lily Atwood is a famous Emmy award winning television reporter. She is beloved and recognized everywhere she goes. Much of her success is due to her producer Greer, a somewhat dissatisfied employee who provides a different perspective on Lilly. Does she have it all? Or does she have secrets to protect?

Most recently, Greer and Lily have been working with an anonymous source that has allowed them to win multiple awards and recognition. Suddenly the tips are more personal and hint to threats of revealing secrets.

Very twisty, very turny, this is a fast paced book that you will enjoy and guess the villian right up to the very end. Hank Phillippi Ryan is an excellent thriller writer and this book was mysterious and suspenseful as advertised. Recommend!

I just finished Her Perfect Life by Hank Philippi Ryan. The book starts out with quite a bit of intrigue about the main character and her so-called perfect life. The plot of the book involves the main character's big sister who disappeared under mysterious circumstances and where and why she left. Lily, the main character must balance her public persona with her private desire to protect,. not just her family secrets, but her daughter as well.
Overall, I found this book interesting but too cliche to give it a high recommendation. I was quite often much too predictable, but more than that, quite often included unecessary plot points.
The premise has great potential but unfortunately, an all too predictable ending which left the reader disppointed. I guess I was expecting more. Tnak you to Net Galley for providing a free copy of this book

Hmmm... I have some kind of bumpy start with this story! I liked the impactful opening: summarizing the family drama about missing sister which was emotional and promising start for me . But after the powerful beginning, I pushed myself a little to understand what’s going on: who is the secret resource, who is the detective, what the hell is going on at this story! Why the characters mostly acted like suffering from constipation, why they insisted not to see the things standing in front of them! They kept reaching the wrong conclusions about everything!

I think I had hard time to connect with so perfect Lily and her workaholic, fixer producer Greer. I found Lily self obsessed, cold and flat and Greer was so sneaky, untrustworthy, nosy from the beginning.

When we move backwards to learn more about Lily’s sister Cassie and the things pushed her hard to go missing was a little forced and far fetched. She was way too much clever to do those mistakes and act so naive around people.

The story lost his its direction in the middle but thankfully last third and conclusion was satisfying. Especially last twist was well played and the emotional wrapping up was also powerful.

Let’s give you more clues by talking about the blurb so you may decide if this book fits with your expectations:

Lily Atwood in her mid thirties, several Emmy award winner, rising star television reporter, is a living legend with her picture perfect look and amazing lifestyle with her lovely little daughter Rowen she’s raising alone!

But when her special whistleblower / secret resource Smith starts giving her infos for her own secretive life instead of next scandalous news subject, things get riled and she finds herself to solve a cold case: a nearly 3 decades long mystery: her own sister’s disappearance.

Smith thinks her sister is alive and in danger and only one who can help her could be Lily. But what if her sister involved in unlawful things which may destroy her picture perfect life she’s worked so hard to build! What if finding Cassie means losing everything she cares for!

I’m still rounding up 3.5 stars to 4 well executed, intriguing mystery stars because I always enjoy the author’s works. I wish I could like this book and characters a little more. But I’m still looking forward to read her future works as well.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan- Tor/ Forge for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

Review of uncorrected digital galley

Thanks to her television reporter fame, everyone knows Lily Atwood. She’s the one that, in the name of privacy, does everything she can to keep her seven-year-old daughter, Rowen, out of the public spotlight.

She's also the reporter on the news. She's the one with all the awards. She's the one everyone recognizes.

Yes, she’s the one with the perfect life.

Only it isn’t nearly as perfect as everyone believes.

She never speaks publically about Cassie, her older sister who simply vanished when she was eighteen. Nor has she spoken about Rowen’s father. Private things should remain private.

But when the information she receives from an anonymous source begins to be about her own life, Lily fears that someone is out to destroy the things she holds most dear. What will she do to keep her secrets from destroying her perfect life?

Strong, believable characters and realistic situations pull readers into this intriguing story from the outset. The underlying tension grows steadily and an undercurrent of apprehension keeps the pages turning in this twisty tale of secrets, family, loyalty, and perceptions.

Portions of the story from “before” provide the backstory from Cassie’s point of view while Lily and Greer [Lily’s producer at Channel 6] share the “present” point of view. Unexpected revelations keep the reader guessing while the unfolding narrative leads to an unexpected denouement. Readers will find it difficult to set this not-to-be-missed mystery aside before turning the final page.

Highly recommended.

This twisty thriller told in multiple points of view pulled me in from the beginning. As the story unfolded the readers learns about Lily, a television personality who projects a perfect persona, and the Cassie, the sister who disappeared when she was seven. The story was full of surprises and had an ending I didn’t see coming. I’d recommend this quick read to any thriller lovers.

4.5/5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

Her Perfect Life is another excellent mystery from Hank Phillippi Ryan. It tells the story of Lily Atwood, a high profile television reporter, who everyone believes has the perfect life. However, Lily has one secret from her past that she must protect. When one of her anonymous sources begins giving Lily inside information about her own life, her seemingly perfect life begins to crumble around her.

Ryan always sucks me into a story from the very first page and before I know it, I have read half the book (this is why she wins all of the awards). Her Perfect Life is a carefully crafted mystery with multiple timelines and POVs that all lead to one huge twist. I came for the twists, but stayed for the relationships between Lily and her sister, as well as between her and her daughter. All are sympathetic, fully formed characters that you are invested in and their relationships with one another add depth to the story.

Overall, Her Perfect Life is the smart, fast-paced, and thrilling mystery that I always expect from this author!

Lily has the perfect life, except for the two or three secrets she's buried. When an informant starts dropping clues that he knows of her past, Lily and her producer get sucked into a tangled web of lies and deception.

I did not connect to this book as much as I wanted to, since I had read from this author before and really loved it. I felt like I didn't understand the actions of some of the characters. That being said, I did still enjoy the book and would recommend it. It has everything you want in a thriller: the plottwists were good, the ending was unpredictable, and you didn't know if someone was lying. For me, this book is a 3.5/5 mostly because of the confusion in the characters actions. Also, it takes into account that I would have preferred the ending to be different. That's more of a personal preference then anything against the book, I just felt a little unsatisfied by it. I will say I hope I have a daughter as adorable and well behaved as Rowen.

If you like thrillers, journalists with secrets, and a 20 year old mystery, this book is for you. The writing is great and the characters can be unpredictable.

Thank you to Macmillan Tor/Forge, Forge Books, and Netgalley for early access to a digital copy of Her Perfect Life by Hank Philippi Ryan in exchange for an honest review.

Her Perfect Life starts off with beautiful prose which drew me in to the story, immersing me in the life of Lily, her coworker Greer, and daughter Rowen. As the story of Lily's missing sister unravels for the reader, Lily becomes more entrenched in the schemes of others and more concerned than ever before about her daughter's safety. Her own self doubts and fears, and hopes, rising to new levels.

The mystery was at times surprising, at times a little too predictable. Yet, the exploration of how perceived perfection in others can blind us and how our loyalties can entrap ourselves and others kept me deeply engaged. I was left wanting at the end, not so much because of the writing but because of the practical realities each character is facing as I left them behind on the pages.

This book started off slow for me but the ending was crazy!! I guessed a lot of different outcomes but the plot twist was not at all what I expected! I enjoyed it and would recommend it! Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this pre-release!

Lily Atwater appears to have the perfect life as a famous TV news personality, but things quickly begin to fall apart as she tries to juggle revelations that could ruin her perfect image, such as her young daughter who is the product of her short-lived affair with a married man, and her sister who disappeared years before for what may or may not be sinister reasons. Lily discovers that the people she should be able to trust might not be so trustworthy after all as she gets deeper and deeper in danger.

i read this book almost in one sitting, eager to find out how it would end.

Her perfect life by Hank Phillippi Ryan is an excellent thriller. It was full of twists and turns and just engaging throughout.

A truly disappointing read. While I usually enjoy Ryan’s work this was a book that I ended up skimming since I found it so predictable and only wanted to see if my assumptions were correct. Little to no suspense, unlikable characters, and a plot that you could easily figure out.
