Interesting scenes that the narrator really brings to life. I almost felt like I was in this little beach town. No real violence and sex scenes are tame, Good story and I enjoyed listening to it.

Flight is the second book in The Texas Murder Files series by Laura Griffin. I listened to the audiobook version, which was narrated by Teri Clark Linden. I haven't read book one yet, but the installments in this series apparently stand alone. I have a number of books by Laura Griffin that I haven't read yet; I will have to move them up in my huge TBR pile.

Miranda Rhoads was a forensic photographer, but she was burned out after her last case involving a child murder. Now she's temporarily living in Lost Beach, Texas working as a wildlife photographer. It was a nice change of pace...until she discovered a murdered couple, obviously posed in an embrace, in a canoe. Detective Joel Breda of the Lost Beach Police Department is on the case. Not only is he trying to figure out who the murderer is, but he's also trying to get a read on Miranda, to whom he is immediately attracted. As the bodies begin to pile up, Miranda becomes indispensable to the police with her CSI background. She also becomes a target of the unknown killer. Will Joel, Miranda and the squad catch their prey before anyone else dies?

This was quite an entertaining whodunit, with some lovely romance between Miranda and Joel added to the mixture. Flight was one of those rare mysteries that totally surprised me when the killer was revealed. That made the the entire tale so much more exciting! The killer seemed to be leaving feathers of endangered birds at the crime scenes, which was a nice touch. There was also an investigation into a group of eco-warriors in connection with the murders, which was different than the usual potential killer suspects. I enjoyed the slow-burn romance between Miranda and Joel, and they had some special steamy times together. Teri Clark Linden did a decent job with the narration, though a lot of her female characters sounded extremely similar, and her male characters didn't sound particularly manly. But I really enjoyed listening to this book on my way to and from work, and I'm looking forward to the next Texas murder!

I received an ARC of this audiobook from the publisher, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Painstakingly slow. I would have enjoyed it better if the focus was on one or two characters. Unfortunately, I didn't like it. It also might have been because the narrator's voice was annoying.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to Flight by Laura Griffin.

Miranda Rhoads thought she was going to the Texas ocean town of Lost Beach to photograph birds, but the recently retired CSI agent soon finds herself involved in solving a murder and in a burgeoning romance with detective Joel Breda.

I hadn't read Laura Griffin's first installment in this series of interconnected books, and you don't need to in order to understand what happens here. I enjoyed the mystery quite a bit, though, so I plan on picking up Hidden as soon as I can. I liked the procedural information, and I liked how Miranda and Joel worked through the clues, both independently and together.

I listened to the audiobook, and Teri Clark Linden's narration is fantastic. She differentiates the voices very effectively, and she helps build the increasing tension. The sex scenes feel a little awkward, but that could be because I'm still new to audiobooks and not accustomed to hearing sexy times as opposed to reading them. I enjoyed her narration quite a bit, though.

This mystery does have twists and turns, but Griffin writes it in a straightforward way. You won't get lost or confused by what happens. As for the whodunit, will you be surprised? I was. I tend to be more intrigued by the "why" of these things, and I felt like the culprit's "why" made sense. I also enjoyed the romance between Miranda and Joel. He, in particular, is a hunka hunka burnin' love.

Hit up the comments and let me know what you think of this book.

Although I didn't read the first book in this series I had no trouble following along with the storyline and main character Miranda in this novel. This was the first book I have read by this author and was excited to see what this book was all about. I love a good police procedural novel, and this book has that and a little bit of romance thrown into the mix as well, and it worked well.

A recommended read that I am sure you will enjoy.

I am an avid reader and fan of Laura Griffin's books. This is the second book in the Texas Murder Files series. I have not read the first one yet and I felt like I was able to follow the story without feeling lost by not having read the first one first.

I really liked the way that this story started off as it started with a nice serene morning at dawn. The book starts slow and to be honest it stayed that way until the very end. I don't mind if a book starts off slow if it picks up within the first chapter or two but this one did not.

There are not a lot of characters in this story and yet I still found it hard to keep track of who was who. I found that I was not drawn into the story itself which I attribute to the story being slow, not very action packed, and having difficulty with keeping track of the characters.

As I just mentioned there is not a lot of action in this book. There is quite a bit of a passionate romance brewing between the female forensic photographer, Miranda, and Detective Joel Breda.

As far as the narrator goes, I really liked her. I thought that her reading style was perfect for the story line. The book is based in Texas, which is quite common for Laura Griffin's books, and I felt that she did well with portraying this in her reading tone. She read the sexual encounters quite well and they almost made me feel slightly uncomfortable because of how well she read them.

Rating: 3 out of 5. I really really wanted to read this book but I just could not get into it. I found it slow, hard to keep track of the characters, and not very action packed. The narrator did a great job and I felt that she was the perfect pick for this book.

Flight by Laura Griffin is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I got to listen to the audiobook, courtesy of #NetGalley and the narrator did a great job as well! Then story follows Maranda, a CSI who is burnt out and ready for a break. She escapes to an island off the coast of Texas to do some nature photography. What she finds though, is two dead bodies in a canoe wrapped around each other. There is an exotic feather in the girl's hand. Joel is the lead investigator on the case and, together, they work to figure out who could have killed those people. Their search leads them to an environmental agency that may be resorting to murder to prove their point. When the murderer starts to zero in on Maranda, though, things get even more action packed. Good book! I really liked it! Thanks again for the opportunity to listen to it! #bookstagram #all_the_pages

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of The Flight, audio edition.

Miranda Rhoads is a former forensic photographer who has taken a sabbatical from her work to focus on her mental health and work on her photography, until she stumbles on two dead bodies. She reluctantly agrees to team up with Detective Joel Breda and his team to track down the killer who is quickly becoming a serial killer. When the killer turns his sights on Miranda, she and Joel must find him before she becomes his next victim.

This is the second in the Texas Murder Files series, although I did not read the first, this novel feels like a stand alone. Laura Griffin is very good at weaving suspense into her mysteries and this is no different. I think a few of the characters could have been developed a little further and the ending was a bit forced but over all this was an enjoyable story. The audio version is narrated by Teri Clark Linden who has a great tone and is easy to listen to.

This is my first read by Laura Griffin. I received this from NetGalley. I requested it based on the promise of a murder mystery, but it was more focused on the relationship between the two main characters. It did not bother me all that much, probably I needed something outside of my comfort zone. I might pick up more like it.

Prior to this book, I was unfamiliar with this author and didn't know the style of books she wrote. When I got it from Netgalley, it said mystery & suspense. I was a little annoyed that the romance started as soon as it did. After doing a little looking online, I found out that Laura Griffin writes romantic suspense, which isn't a genre I normally read. That being said, I really enjoyed Flight! I thought the characters were interesting and well written. There was plenty of action and suspense while they worked to figure out who was responsible for the deaths and other suspicious events. Despite the fact that this isn't my normal genre, I'd definitely consider reading more Laura Griffin in the future!

I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. I would definitely consider listening to more of her narration!

Laura Griffin did a fantastic job with the plot. The murder mystery aspect was great and it didn’t overshadow Miranda’s struggles or vice versa. They both were important storylines that melded together so gracefully. I had no idea who the killer was let alone there may have been more than one. It seemed to be a connection to what Miranda was running from but it wasn’t. I was slightly disappointed because that would’ve been the icing on top but it didn’t take away from how the story played out. The chemistry between Miranda and Joel felt very natural and I like how they didn’t play games with each other. Miranda had some things to overcome and some decisions to make and I’m really glad she didn’t run away from them as that would’ve been an unnecessary complication in the story. Overall, great book! I’ll definitely be reading more from the author.

Flight by Laura Griffin is the second book in the Texas Murder Files series. I really enjoyed the main character, Miranda. The plot was intriguing, and the romance was perfect in that it was not perfect. This book kept me engaged from the vey beginning. This is my first book by Ms. Griffin; however, it will not be my last. The narrator, Teri Clark Linden, was good. I really like the timber of her voice.

***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****

A wildlife photographer and former CSI tech comes across two young people, shot to death in a canoe in a backwater area. She then becomes involved with the investigation, not being able to resist the technical aspects nor her attraction to the main detective. The plot is pretty straight-forward, and it's not difficult to guess the culprit as the book moves along. I'd say it was a relatively good book, but doesn't really make the "best of" list. A bit too predictable.

This is the second book of the series and I did not read the first book, but it is ok because this book is stand alone. The book and content itself is wonderful and intriguing, but I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was not my favorite. I enjoyed the mystery and the storyline it was just difficult with the reading to really get into the book all the way. This book focuses a lot on the romance versus the mystery. The romances unfolds quickly as is common in this genre, but Griffin created characters I connected with and their chemistry, background and feelings felt realistic giving their relationship depth. As a former CSI, Miranda Rhoads’s move to the coast in the hopes of having a peaceful time doesn’t last long when she stumbles on a seemingly staged (and macabre) murder of 2 people. It’s a discovery that brings her back too closely to her old life just as a small-town detective whose intensity and confidence stir an attraction she doesn’t want to feel......

Thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book for an honest review.

Never thought of the actual killer as a possibility. I am really hard to fool when it comes to "who done it" mysteries and this one had me to the end. Even then I didn't figure it out until the last couple chapters. Kept me interested and I didn't want to put it down.

This was a fun read! The setting was described so well and really made for a beautiful backdrop that I imagined throughout the book.. The mystery with the interwoven romance kept the story going at a fast pace. This would make for a fun series! Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced copy of this audio book.

This is the second title in The Texas Murder Files series, and in my opinion a much better read than the first. The pacing is better, the characters have more depth and the romance just kind of feels more believable.
The mystery came together nicely, and I didn't really guess then ending until I got there!
Flight works as a standalone, so if you haven't read the previous book, and want to jump straight into the second, go ahead and do so.
