The mystery portion of this book was excellent and one of the best I’ve read in awhile. The twists and turns kept me guessing until right when the murderers were revealed. However, the sex scenes read like a romance novel and were at times gratuitous. They distracted from the mystery, and not in a good way.

Flight (Laura Griffin) narrated by Teri Clark Linden

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC for an honest review.

I haven't read the previous book in this series of 'The Texas Murder Files', but quite enjoyed this one. The narrator did a good job with this romantic suspense.

The story was absorbing with interesting characters and plot. I look forward to reading some of her other books.

Just finished listening to this book. It is #2 in the series. This is my first read by Laura Griffin. It was very good and I wasn't lost being the 2nd in the series. Miranda has moved to the beach to relax and recoup from a very stressful job as a CSI forensic photography. So does she continue on a relaxing at Lost Beach or take on a new job.

Wow, Laura Griffin has written a plethora of books, and before receiving this advance reader copy of her latest audiobook, I’d never even heard of her. For a voracious reader like me, especially when it comes to thrillers, that’s surprising. Flight was a perfect summer read about a CSI, a detective, and a serial killer (a love triangle that only happens in mystery novels), set on a resort island in Texas. There was an interesting ornithological element (my biology-teacher husband will be very proud I used that word) and the violence wasn’t gory or gratuitous. The romance was trite and predictable, but hey, isn’t that what beach reads are all about? Although I loved the story, the narration seemed robotic. Laura Griffin, I’m a fan. 4 stars.

First, I would like to offer a huge thanks to Dreamscape media and Laura Griffin for providing me with the audiobook version of Flight!

As an avid reader and listener of psychological thrillers, I always hold books in this genre to a high standard. The things I usually look for are as follows: Character development that is interesting; a mystery that grabs my attention right away; and a solution to the mystery that makes sense, but is not obvious or easy to solve--what would be the fun in that? I am thrilled to report that Flight hit the mark on all three of these criteria for me!

From the very first chapter, Griffin's description of the scenery and the crime set the stage for a story that felt easy to immerse yourself into. As someone who lives in a costal town, I could smell the water, feel the hot heavy air, and really see every piece of the small Texas beach town she described. Seeing the world through Miranda's eyes was my favorite part of this book. As much as I love the typical cop solves a crime mystery, having the perspective of a former CSI turned bird photographer was refreshing and interesting. I felt invested in her struggle to decide whether to return to forensic work, her sorting of relationships, and trying to grapple with trauma from her past. Also, I love Benji. 10/10 rating for best sidekick! In all seriousness, I thought the addition of a dog, and siblings, and a backstory made Miranda come to life. I only hope that she sticks around for the next book!

Overall, Flight is a book I genuinely enjoyed, and was even more thrilled to realize was part of a series. I have to admit now that I have not read the previous book in the Texas Files Series...but I am on hold for the audiobook now! I am incredibly excited to see the next steps this series will take, and to add this to my book-clubs to read list!

Flight is the second book in the series but it really can stand alone. I have not read the first one and had no problems jumping into this one. I enjoyed it and the narrator of the audio version. It is a romantic suspense which is a genre that I haven't read for awhile. The story kept me entertained even if it was a little predictable.

.Forensic photographer Miranda Rhoads takes a break from her job in San Antonio after a case goes bad. and heads to Paradise Island to take pictures of birds. While she is out photographing she finds a couple in a boat and soon realizes that they are dead. She meet Detective Joel Breda and begins to work the case with them. It becomes a race to find the culprit before they find them.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Miranda was our taking wild life pictures on a.lake when she comes across a couple of dead bodies. While waiting for the police she photographs the scene for them. She meets the handsome lead Detective on the case who later asks her to join him in investing the case.
This is a romance/mystery story which I wasn't expecting . It was an enjoyable read and had some twists.
I felt the book was a good book.
I'm not a big fan of romance but for those of you that appreciate romance and mystery I highly recommend this for you.

Two dead bodies show up weeks before summer tourist season begins in Lost Beach. Miranda Rhoads discovered the bodies while photographing nature. Joel Breda is the lead detective working the murder investigation. Lost Beach isn’t equipped to handle this type of investigation. They have to outsource for help.

Miranda photographed the scene before any trace evidence could be destroyed by the incoming rain. She had an obvious talent for CSI work and Joel was determined to convince her to join the team.
Miranda Rhoads abandoned her former work life when a photography project came about. Joel Breda was born and raised on the island.

Flight was a romantic investigative story. While this is book 2 in the Texas Murder Files the story doesn’t take place in Texas. Miranda was a forensic photographer in Texas. She needed a change of pace.

Joel’s character is the complete package smart, good looking, and attentive. Miranda’s character is good looking, smart, and organized. Her keen eye for details and instincts is needed in this case.
There are three supporting characters that are part of the investigative team.
Flight is told using the third person narrative. If you appreciate typical police investigative procedure than you will enjoy Flight. They explored every lead piecing together the murders on Lost Beach. While doing so danger lurked around the corner as detectives got closer to solving the crime.
I didn’t read Hidden, book 1, but that didn’t hinder my reading in Flight. It appears Miranda and Joel are two new characters in book 2. However, I don’t have the advantage of comparing book 2 with book 1 since I started with book 2. Yet, from reading the description of book 1 it appears this book can be read as a standalone.

Narrator:
Teri Clark Linden is the solo performer in this unabridged audiobook. Teri is an American actress and voice performer. She’s a genuine storyteller. She records her audiobook in Whisper Room Studio. She’s narrated over 200 audiobooks in all genres.
I requested this audiobook on Netgalley. This is my second listen using the Netgalley app. Periodically there is some audio disturbance in the audiobook. It’s a garbled sound more like an echo at the start of each play. The sound disappears after a minute or two.
Flight is a good listen with Laura and Teri providing all the necessary words to bring this story to life. Laura wrote a descriptive story in which Teri voiced well. She provided the perfect pitch and tone for a murder mystery thriller.
This was easy to follow. It was informative. Teri provided all the necessary skills you come to expect when listening to an audiobook.
The chapters vary from 10 minutes to 30 minutes in length with a total of 30 chapters. Total length time is 9 hours and 16 minutes. This is book 2. I listened to the English version. Teri narrated book 1 and book 2 in this series.

When Miranda comes across a crime scene while taking nature photography, she's pulled back into the world she was trying to get an escape from. A former crime scene photographer, she can't help but be drawn into the mysterious murder and work with the small vacation town police to help figure out what exactly happened.

This book was almost 50/50 mystery and romance, with a lot more focus on romance than I was expecting. I thought the mystery aspect was clever and well written, so I wasn't a huge fan of the lustful plot line between the two main characters because it felt like it got in the way of the other plot and changed the vibe of the book.

This is a good read for someone who likes both romance and thriller/mystery novels. If you're only looking for a mystery book, the romantic storyline might be annoying to you and a bit much, especially if you don't like detailed, steamy scenes.

Flight by Laura Griffin is book #2 in her new The Texas Murder Files series. While Laura Griffin is known for having really great series with reoccurring characters, which is what I anticipated this book to be, it isn't, so take that idea out of your head, we won't exactly be revisiting the characters from Hidden, the first in the series. The basis for The Texas Murder Files is all about resourceful cops, based out of Austin, who have one goal in mind, to find the truth. These books are not much more than your typical murder mystery with a pinch of romance. Flight tells the story of Miranda Rhoades, a former CSI turned wildlife photographer, who discovers two bodies while taking photos early one morning. Detective Joel Breda becomes the investigator on the case and he quickly realizes he needs Miranda for more than just what she saw on the case, but for her experience as a CSI. This, unfortunately, puts her in the path of the killer, who remains at large and the bodies keep piling up. Like all of Laura Griffin's books, Flight doesn't let you down, you will get a great murder mystery, with touches of forensics, romance, and a great plot.

Thank you to NetGalley and Laura Griffin for this Audio-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

I couldn’t follow this audiobook. The narrator sounded robotic so badly that I just could not listen anymore. I would like to try this again in print. This version that was given to me absolutely hindered my ability to move forward.

The narration by Teri Clark Linden suited the book perfectly. I am an avid listener and was easlily able to speed this up by 2x. Her tone kept me engaged in the story and she portrayed just the right emotion and intensity for all of it.

I am a huge romance reader, but am not usually drawn to Romantic Suspense. So this one was a treat! The mystery of it was intriguing with the Ornithology aspect. I really enjoyed the fact that Miranda was a forensic photographer. I am fan of true crime, so that added a neat aspect that hooked me from the beginning. I liked the chemistry between her and Joel, but also enjoyed that that wasn't a major part of the story,

I will definitely be looking for more books from this narrator and author in the future when I am looking for a book to read/listen to.

This book was more romance than it was a mystery. Sure, there was a murder, but it's lost in the constant distraction of their blossoming lust. It was so front and center (unlike the first book). I struggled to get through this book. The characters were likeable enough but it was difficult to get a good idea what they were like since their thoughts were only about their feelings for each other. I liked the dog the best.

The narration was well done and easy to understand - no issues with audio.

Thank you to #netgalley for a chance to listen to the audiobook of Flight.

I haven’t read any suspense or thriller type books for at least a year now. This was a great book to get me back into them. Suspenseful and romantic. Although I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to listening to sex scenes on audio 😏

This is book 2 in the Texas Murder Files. I haven’t read the first and had no issues just diving into this one.

If romantic suspense is one of your favourite genres, this would be a great book to check out.

I gave it 3.5⭐️

Miranda, a former forensic photographer, stumbles upon a death scene that seems staged. She ends up working with the local police to track down the killer. I used to read contemporary suspense all the time and took a break because it seemed like it was always the same story in a different location with the names changed. But this one drew me in.

I really enjoyed the way Miranda added to the story as a forensic photographer. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book from this angle. And I loved her dog. I am such a sucker for pets in books. The entire team were solid characters and I would read another book that told more of their story. Of course the romance was predictable, but that is the point of this genre. I also liked the scenery and how the details of the feathers were woven throughout the plot.

A good narrator fits perfectly with the story and Teri Clark Linden did just that. She had the right intensity and emotion as the story progressed and did not take away from the story.

I will need to look for more books by both the author and narrator, as I enjoyed this audiobook.

Flight by Laura Griffin narrated by Teri Clark Linden

It is narrated by Teri Clark Linden. She did a good narration with emotional emphasis and intonations where needed. This was my first experience with her and she’s enjoyable to listen to.

Miranda Rhoads is a forensic photograph out taking pictures when she finds the sleeping couple in a canoe. She soon realizes they are dead and has to quickly report before the predicted rain will wash away evidence. Joel Breda is the detective who responds and the chemistry between the two begins. They must find the serial killer before he kills again. It was a good story line, kept my interest and look forward to reading more books by Laura Griffin who I have never ready anything.

Thanks to Dreamscape Media and Net Galley for the audio book.
