Thanks netgalley for the ARC
I didn’t read the first in this series but it seems like this is a stand alone novel. I thought it was fine, the crime got me hooked and I thought that the characters and investigation were interesting. However it did feel s little dragged out... like it didn’t need to be as long as it was. But if you like police novels and a little romance, it’s worth a shot.

I love books involving crime and the procedural details of law enforcement. This is about Miranda, a wild life photographer with experience in CSI. She wanted to get away from doing CSI work but stumbled upon a murdered couple. She reports the crime and meets a local detective, Joel. Joel, Miranda and the rest of the law enforcement team work together to find the person behind the gun that killed the couple. They soon learn of more victims and maybe even the involvement of an organization. I liked 90% of this book. I loved the plot, the characters, the procedural details, being on the edge of my seat and so much more. The 10% I didn't like was the hints of romance. I am not a huge romance fan (I am not a grinch, I guess I just like my thrillers to be dark) and there was a good amount in this book. I listened to the audio version and the narrator did a fantastic job.

I listened to this as an audiobook.
Narrated by Teri Clark Linden. Who does wonderfully different voices from character to character. She has a great voice and reading style.
This could be an addictive series! I started with flight, the second book in the series. Easily read/listened to as a stand alone, I didn't even realize it was a series at the time.
This story is full of individually strong characters. You can't help but like them. A forensic photographer who has left her profession behind. A smart, sexy, dedicated detective that needs her in more ways than one. He's not letting her standoffishness stop him. He knows she really wants the job.
The story takes place around the coast of Texas so you have that vibe that makes me miss the beach.
The plot is great. There's a serial killer to catch. There's a lot of bizarre clues and things look like they are about to get more dangerous. Fast-paced, suspenseful crime story well balanced with romance. Perfect if you are a fan of one or the other genre.
Laura Griffin is definitely a author I'll read more by in the future.
I'd like to thank #Dreamscape_Media and #NetGalley for the ARC of #Flight by Laura Griffin. My opinions and review are my own.

Romance more than mystery
Be clear that this is more a romance novel more than mystery.
There are just too many people hooking up, after total reeling and shock, breathless endless moments, AND thrusting. Seriously, I blushed when my cat heard some of the things that happened.
It is an okay mystery and the sex is not as good as Eve Dallas in the In Death series.

If you are a fan of the Tracer series, you will be a fan of this new series!
Laura Griffin does romantic suspense very well. I always find that she has at least one of the main characters that has a fascinating job. In Flight, it's the heroine, Miranda.
Miranda is a forensic photographer who happens to be on hiatus in Lost Beach. She gets pulled back into the job when she comes upon a young, murdered couple and takes the photos as if she is still on the job.
Detective Joel Breda offers Miranda a job when he sees her photographs of the scene and finds out what her profession is. As these two start investigating the murders together, a budding romance begins that was just as appealing as the suspenseful investigation.
Everything about this auidobook was a fascinating listen. The story was intriguing. The romance was steamy. And the narrator was fantastic. I highly recommend the audiobook.

Laura Griffin skillfully intertwined thrilling murder mystery with a spicy love story, and if you can't tell from my adjectives, I was a fan!
Miranda, a talented CSI, moved to Lost Beach to take a break from her job. Unfortunately, a murder (or two) ruin Miranda's plans. Enter detective Breda, Joel Breda. Together with the police department, Miranda and Joel attempt to solve the murders in this sleepy tourist town, only to find themselves more and more embroiled in conflict.
I adored this book. Although I was not convinced that I'd really like this book at first, Griffin quickly won me over!
Thank you to Dreamscape Media for access to Flight (audiobook) in return for an honest review.

A steamy romantic suspense featuring a Texas serial killer and the crime scene photographer and policeman working to track him down. I haven’t read the first book in the series but this one was a fun summer read.

Flight
The Texas Murder Files #2
Laura Griffin
Miranda Rhoads moves to Lost Beach to photograph the wildlife. She is taking pictures at sunrise when she notices what at first looks like a couple cuddled up together asleep but on closer inspection, she realizes they have been murdered and posed. A feather is found at the scene of the murder. Miranda is a burned-out Crime Scene Investigator Photographer. She calls the police to report the crime. While waiting for them to arrive she falls into her CSI mode and begins taking pictures. Detective Joel Breda is on the case. He asks Miranda to assist in the investigation. As the duo work together it becomes apparent that they are dealing with a serial murderer and Miranda is in the cross-hairs.
Author Laura Griffin is a master at characterization. Even the secondary characters are fleshed out. I imagine we will hear more about them in upcoming installments. I enjoyed the romance between Miranda and Joel. The author’s descriptions are delightful; I could see the sunrise and sunset over Lost Beach in my mind’s eye. This is the second book in the Texas Murder Files however it stands well on its own. Miranda is a strong female lead; she was smart and dealing with something in the past. She had an eye for details.
This tale is suspenseful with romance as a secondary plot. The plot is fast paced and very interesting. I enjoyed the police procedural part of the plot. Author Laura Griffin sprinkles clues to the identity of the murderer throughout the book.

Flight is book 2 in the Texas Murder Files series. I haven’t read book one yet but I definitely plan to after finishing this!
I really enjoyed this murder mystery with a bit of romance!
Miranda is a photographer, out in the water on a canoe, when she finds two dead bodies. Out of habit, as we find out she’s on break from being a CSI she takes photos and realizes their murder was staged.
Insert Joel, the head detective, who realizes they need Miranda on their team and he enjoys her in his life in general.
As we meet other characters and a string of more bodies, we find out over the course of the story who the murderer is, and honestly I was not expecting it.
There was also an adorable rescue pup Benji and the scenery described in Texas with the birds and sunrise just sound gorgeous.
The narration was also great! I would’ve loved to have a male narrator for Joel’s chapters because I occasionally was confused, but overall it was a great story and a great narrator!
Thank you @berkleypub and @netgalley for an audio ARC! #flight #thetexasmurderfiles #bookstagram #mystery #romanticsuspense
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Miranda Rhoads is a forensic photographer who is out alone on the water trying to photograph the sunset...While there she discovers 2 dead bodies floating in a canoe. She reports it to the police and meets Detective Joel Braeda, who hires her to assist in the case. Sparks fly as they both try to track down a serial killer.
I enjoyed this very much. Likeable protagonists, engaging narrator. Recommend and would love to read another book by this author.
My thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media.

Flight by Laura Griffin
Book 2 of The Texas Murder Files series. Contemporary romantic suspense. Police procedure mystery with romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Miranda Rhoads moved to Lost Beach to work as a wild life photographer but finding a body resurrects her forensics experience for the local police force. Multiple murders has the police department and Detective Joel Breda on alert and concerned about Miranda’s safety.
Intense and enthralling. Multiple twists make the investigation intriguing. The romance between Miranda and Joel is in spite of both being uneasy about a work place relationship. It bothered me that she spoke out loud twice about backing off the relationship but both times were after they had sex. Maybe it should have been before.
Wonderfully tense and suspenseful moments throughout and at the height of the story. I look forward to more from this author.
I listened to an audio version narrated by Teri Clark Linden. She does a good job with the emotionally suspenseful situations but I thought the sex scenes sounded staged.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and @Dreamscapeaudio.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for advanced audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
DNF at 30%. 2.5 stars.
I got the advanced audiobook and when I saw it was the second in a serious I went and listened to the first book. You don’t need to read in order as the characters were not the same.
Stopped listening 1/3 through. More romance than mystery. Story didn’t grab me.

I had never heard of this author but I will now be reading more of her work. This was a good story with interesting characters. A little spicier than I normally read but still very good. I definitely want to know what happens next with these characters.
***I was given a copy of the audiobook by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is Suspense Romance/Mystery, and this is the second book in the Texas Murder Files series. I have not read the first book in this series. I listen to the audiobook, but I have to say the narrator was not my favorite. I have to say I really enjoyed the mystery part of this book more then the romance part. I felt the romance part was not the best. I really liked all the characters, but I do not think the two main characters really worked together as a couple. I wish this book was just all about the mystery and not the romance. I really did not guess the big twist. I also love that our main character was a forensic photographer. I was kindly provided an e-audiobook of this book by the publisher (Dreamscape Media) or author (Laura Griffin) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

This is my first book by this author and most certainly will not be my last. It was a wonderful listen with terrific narration. Miranda is looking for some down time. As a CSI/forensic photographer , the last case she worked has left her with some deep emotional scars and PTSD. Her true passion is wildlife photography so when she applies for and gets a job and heads off to a small beach community with her beloved dog to emotionally recover and figure out what is next for her. She is looking for nothing more than beautiful birds, running on the beach with her pup when she is thrust back into her former world of being a CSI after meeting local Detective Joel Breda after having stumbled upon a murder scene. At first she bristles at returning to her previous job, even if only on a temporary basis, but she acquiesces as she knows they need her help, she is that good and her instinct is always to help. They join forces to discover who the serial killer is amongst their midst and figure out if their attraction is real or in the moment. It’s a great combination of romance and suspense. I did not read the first book in the series, which I will now go read, but didn’t feel I missed a thing as a result of it. I really enjoyed this book.

Well written with good character development but very predictable to me. I just couldn’t get into it. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved this one!
All of the characters were fantastic! What I thought was extremely unique is that every single character was likeable. Some of them were quirky or immature, but all of them were likeable. I also loved that the author stayed away from the normal jealous/competitive stereotype of female coworkers and had Nikki and Miranda work really well together and respect each other-- it was great to see adult women acting like adult women instead of being petty. I absolutely loved that! I also loved the plot, it moved well and I didn't really see the end coming, though maybe I should have.
The only criticism I have of this book is that it was a little heavy on the description of the attraction between Miranda and Joel. The first time it was interesting, the second time it drove the point home, but the constant musings about how physically attracted to him she was got a little old. We get it, you're hot for the detective.
Overall, absolutely loved it, listened in a day and highly recommend!

Miranda is a former crime scene photographer trying to put a difficult case behind her. She just wants to work on her photo project and spend time with her dog. Unfortunately life gets in the way of that... or rather death. She finds a couple dead in a canoe left creepily posed. Her curiosity about a piece of evidence left at the scene leads her down a road she wishes to avoid. Joel, the lead detective on the case wants to hire Miranda since his department doesn’t have a crime scene investigator. Against her better judgement she eventually gives in to accepting the job and later gets herself tangled up with Joel.
What they don’t need is to be distracted by each other. Especially when it appears that this case isn’t some isolated incident but a series of murders. Trying to piece together what the victims have in common and why these murders were committed isn’t easy. Especially when another body is found and Miranda’s life is in danger.
The story was good for the most part. There was some action and suspense and you couldn’t really guess who the killer was at all because well there weren’t any actual clues. In fact if things had happened differently at the end nobody could have known who it was. If the killer wasn’t convinced that they had been witnessed they would have gotten away with it. The solitary piece of information that could of had the police asking questions was enough for a bit of suspicion but otherwise it was nothing.
Not a bad mystery and there was you know romance in there from the start basically. Miranda kind of got on my nerves half the time. The narrator did a great job. This was my first experience with the author and as this happens to be the second book in the series I have to go back and read the first and I would definitely read what comes next.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, I felt like the were really well developed and had a lot of depth. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator drew me in and made me want to keep listening. I didn’t know this was the second book in a series, I will be reading be first as well as more by this author!

2.75 stars
After an emotionally draining case, Miranda Rhoads decides to put her career as a forensic photographer behind. Now living in Lost Beach, Miranda makes her living as a wildlife photographer. Until one beautiful day, Miranda is taking lake pictures and seeing a couple sleeping on a canoe. Upon further inspection, she realizes they are dead.
Enter detective Joel Breda, an attractive detective who invites Miranda into the investigation because of her knowledge and skill.
With the Lost Beach police, Miranda and Joel set out to catch what they find out is a serial killer before someone else dies.
I am a fan of Dreamscape Media productions, and they delivered in the quality of the audiobook. Teri Clark Linden did a terrific job narrating this book. I liked how her narration allowed me to follow the story and differentiate characters. Her pace was consistent with the book narrative, and she excelled at bringing Miranda to life.
I went into Flight expecting a fast-paced thriller akin to the Temperance Brennan series. The plot grabbed and made me so excited to read it, so I was disappointed when I noticed this is actually a romance.
I did, however, enjoy Miranda and felt that her character was fun, witty, and strong. Though, most other characters fell flat to me. I would say the same about the atmosphere – I didn't really feel like it was Texas, even though Griffin nailed the romance within the book. I understand that in romantic novels, characters and locations are usually toned down and not as developed. It allows for a broad range of readers to identify with characters and get invested in the story.
I appreciated the fact that Griffin played fair in the solution, even though the focus of the book was the romance between Miranda and Joel. Flight fell flat as a mystery/thriller, but as a romance, I think it worked. I would have liked to see more research for the investigation/forensic aspect of the book and more dimension in the characters, though.
I am very sorry that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I anticipated. I take the whole blame for it as my expectations were wrong: I thought I was in for a gruesome, fast-paced, forensic heavy book, not a formulaic romance. Don't get me wrong, I read over 300 formulaic romances in my teens. I have nothing against them, it's just a genre I no longer enjoy. So, if you like an easy-to-read romance, you will enjoy Flight for sure.
Because I requested an advanced copy of Flight and was kindly granted one by Dreamscape Media, I profusely apologize for not liking it more. I did, however, gave this book a fair shot and honest review and cannot fault the narration and audiobook production. They were superb, and Teri Clark Linden was a trooper for reading the many sex scenes.
I think many people will love it and still recommend it for fans of romance / romantic suspense.
Disclaimer: I first read it as an ARC. In exchange for an honest review, I am thankful to Dreamscape Media, NetGalley and Laura Griffin for providing me with a copy of Flight.
