I have to say that this book is my favourite of the series.

Rita Herron is an amazing writer with over 90 published books across various genres. I’ve only read this crime series published by Bookouture so far but I really do love this series.

The Ellie Reeves series is set in America’s Appalachian Mountains which is a great setting for murders to hide bodies. The location scenes are great as really give me a feel for the remoteness of the area. This book is set in Crooked Creek and features characters from previous books which sets a familiarity with the team.

Another thing I love is the short chapters. The pace doesn’t let up throughout the book and when reading these in quick succession it really keeps you interested in the plot as the case unfolds.

I’ll be going straight on to the next in the series ‘Frozen Souls’

If you’re looking for an American based crime series, please do consider this one. I’m sure you’ll love it just as much as some of your other favourites.

I think I have to start reviewing this book by saying, that I love the pace. The book starts slowly, drawing you into the story and giving you all the detail you come to expect from a book of this genre. But as the clues start piecing together the chapters get shorter and the pace picks up quickly. Getting your heart racing along with the chapters in anticipation of where the book is going to end up.

I read so many of this kind of book, but I can honestly say I didn't guess the perpetrator at all! Really enjoyed this book and remembered why I loved this series to begin with.

This is the third installment of the Detective Ellie Reeves series by Rita Herron. And just like the previous two,in this book too, the characters are well developed and the plot is full of twists!

I would recommend to read both books in this series so as to understand the whole story.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

Reading Between the Wines book review #47/135 for 2022:
Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: The Burning Girls
Author: Rita Herron
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Available now!

Sipping thoughts: This is book 3 in the Detective Ellie Reeves. She is still struggling with trauma in her past and learning and uncovering new secrets. With all that going on, she is still doing her darndest to solve the crimes of women being burned. Are the women being burned alive? Does Ellie have yet another connection to the killer? Will Ellie finally be able to find love and peace? I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to continue this series.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Bookouture for an advance copy of @TheBurningGirls.

The Burning Girls was a fantastic follow-up to Wildflower Graves with an intriguing plot connected to Ellie's past.

Detective Ellie Reeves has barely recovered from her latest brush with a serial killer when the bodies of several women begin popping up near wildfires. With the discovery of the first victim, Ellie and her colleagues at first wonder if the woman simply got caught in a fire. But when a second victim is found less than twenty-four hours later at a similar scene, Ellie wonders if there's something more sinister behind the deaths. As Ellie begins digging into the lives of the victims looking for a connection, it doesn't take long for her to find herself caught in the killer's sights.

The premise of The Burning Girls was quite interesting and pulled me in immediately. Someone is killing women, surrounding their bodies in a circle of stones, and then setting them on fire. With the first victim, the ID takes time so at first the case focuses on the second victim since she is identified right away. When more bodies begin popping up, Ellie is convinced there's a connection between the victims and begins digging into their lives. I will admit I was surprised by what the connection ended up being and how Ellie actually ended up being connected to it all. Throughout the book we're presented with a few potential suspects and I have to say I didn't expect the identity of the killer at all. Herron is great at keeping you guessing and times her reveals well for maximum impact. The ending of the book was suspenseful with some great twists and I enjoyed how everything played out.

Ellie continues to be a great main character. After the reveal of some big secrets about her family in The Silent Dolls and Wildflower Graves, Ellie has had to make some adjustments when it comes to her work. A number of townspeople have turned on Ellie and doubt her ability to adequately do her job. I liked seeing Ellie adapt to the challenges she's facing and how her investigative skills have developed as a result. Ellie once again works with FBI Special Agent Derrick Fox during the investigation. Their working relationship is on a much better footing than it was at the start of the last book. I enjoy the dynamic between these two and how well they work together.

Overall The Burning Girls was an excellent read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Frozen Souls, soon.

This book is book 3 in the series. This book held my interest the whole way through. It is easily read as a standalone . It was told by different characters and that makes it more interesting.

Book 3 in Herron’s newest series was flaming hot! I’ve been a fan for many years and each new title seems to top the previous! Ellie and her history are compelling and very well rounded. Especially in this one where we get a bit more uncovered behind the mystery of her upbringing and early life. Thank you, Rita And Netgalley for the ARC

Ellie Reeves is reeling from two murder cases in rapid succession. Then she is thrown into a new case when the charred remains of a woman are found, quickly followed by another victim. She cannot believe, but is forced to accept, that there is another serial killer on the loose...
The Burning Girls is the third book in the Ellie Reeves series and I have previously read and reviewed book 2 in the series Wildflower Graves. There are some details about the previous cases in the opening chapters of the book, as well as information about Ellie's personal life.
Ellie is battling demons in her personal relationships. This tips into her professional duties when the first victim is identified as a contact. Her relationships with her colleagues are also not straightforward due to the sheriff's drinking making him unreliable and an FBI agent that she has sexual chemistry with.
The book is written in the third person so we gain access to Ellie's perspective as well as the killer, victims and others. This increases the tension as we witness Ellie's passion and determination as well as the dread of the victims and the anticipation of the killer.
The short chapter, plot pace and the rapid onslaught of victims keeps the momentum of the book going as twists and developments mount up.
I described the previous book as wonderfully gruesome and that is an appropriate summary again! Hugely entertaining and full of drama, action and danger for our lead character. The Burning Girls is an enthralling but grisly novel that had me hooked throughout!

This is book 3 in the series and there is enough back info to read as a stand alone but I think reading it in order helps you understand Ellie and her relationships better. The Burning Girls is a good pace and has some great main characters which add a lot to the story. It’s a nice easy read but I wouldn’t say it’s top of my crime thriller list.

The link between the victims is interesting and a bit different but I did guess one of the main twists. I do like seeing how Ellie adapts and moves on with everything that is thrown at her. She's pretty badass although she suffers way too many head injuries. If you’re looking for a crime thriller that’s not overly complicated and easy to pick up whenever you’ve got a few minutes then definitely check this one out.

This is the third installment of the Detective Ellie Reeves series by Rita Herron. This is one of my favorite authors as her books never fail to be full of suspense, mystery and keep the readers on their toes!

Detective Ellie is called to a scene where a women's body has been found burned, and surrounded by a stone circle. Unsure of what that means, a second body is soon discovered in similar fashion. The race is on to figure out who is killing these women and why.

This is another great book, the characters are well developed and the setup of the storyline keeps the pages turning well into the night. I would recommend reading the series in order as you will understand the little tidbits that are thrown into the storyline as well.

A great addition to the series. It is full of twists and turns and kept me hooked from the start. Looking forward to read more in the series

Detective Ellie Reeves leads the investigation in to a series of murders where the victims all suffered painful deaths and the same ritualistic evidence is left at the crime scene. She feels the need to prove she is capable and worthy of her job after her father, a disgraced cop,was found to have withheld important evidence in a case. Ellie also has to deal with feeling guilty after her best friend and fellow officer suffers a traumatic experience. If that isn’t enough for one person to endure she also has to cope with the recent discovery she was adopted.
It was very interesting to see how the main characters react to trauma and/or pressure in their lives. The author did a great job of keeping the killer hidden till the end.
I felt there was too much going on in Ellie’s life but I may have been better off if I had already read the first two books.

Amazing story, with twist and turns, it feels like a roller coaster ride! Rita Herron is a master in story telling and getting her readers emotionally involved.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read The burning girls by Rita Herron. This mystery/thriller series keeps getting better and I am sorry it took me so long to read the third book in the Detective Ellie Reeves series. It's non-stop action right from the beginning and while you can read each book as a stand alone, I personally don't recommend it as there is a background storyline to Ellie that is a continuing thread throughout the series. Ellie also continues to grow not only as a detective but as her own person. Totally recommend this series!!!

The Burning Girls is the third book in the Detective Ellie Reeves series. In this installment, trouble seems to follow Ellie as a new serial killer haunts the remote town of Crooked Creek. Ellie has to stop the killer but this turns out a race against time as the body count rapidly goes up without any obvious connection between the victims.

Detective Ellie has come along way from the first book. I wasn’t so sure about her at first. She seemed reckless in her personal and professional life. However, she is definitely one of my favorite detectives now. Her astuteness and determination to solve the case was a joy to read. I enjoyed her different friendships and working relationships. Once again, this case is personal hence portraying her vulnerabilities and making her more endearing.

This was a complex case. I had no clue who the Perp was until the reveal. The connection between the victims was hard to guess and so were the motives behind the crimes. I enjoyed following the detectives as they put together the evidence, carried out numerous interviews and finally solved the case. The storyline was quite well written and characters, masterfully crafted. This is solid, captivating detective series and I can’t wait for the next installment.
