'The Littlest Yak' by Lu Fraser is great to read to younger children. They will love the story of finding your place in a 'big' world and the illustrations are so sweet.

This tale reminded me of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It's about a little yak who is different that everyone else because of their smallness. However, by the end of the book, they learn that everyone succeeds differently and a little yak was just what everyone needed. Very cute and hopeful story to show children it's okay to be different.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy. I am an Indigo employee - this review is my own.

The Littlest Yak by Lu Fraser is a wonderful little book which celebrates and teaches young children the importance and value of having unique talents. This books deals with the feelings that surround being different from people like you and the impatience children often feel to grow up faster.
Gertie the Yak is the smallest in the herd. She wants to be big like her family and she feels stuck in her smallness. But Gertie comes to realise that there are some things only she can do because she is small and that size doesn’t always matter.
This in an adorable and heartwarming rhyming picture books with great soul and a strong message.
I would recommend this to readers who enjoy the work of The Grufallo author Julia Donaldson, Oliver Jeffries and Peter Reynolds.

When an individual is small, sometimes everything seems unattainable or to be included in. Yet, even the smallest of individuals have something great they can accomplish or contribute. In the Littlest Yak, Gertie feels she doesn't fit into her pack because of her size. But when an animal gets stuck, she is the only one that can save them. The Littlest Yak is a heartwarming story about how the littlest member can contribute to the pack. The illustrations are colorful, warm, full of energy and emotion. The lesson of everyone can be helpful is easy to understand and executed in a great and fun way.

The Littlest Yak is a children's book written by Lu Fraser, and illustrated by Kate Hindley.

Summary: Gertie is a very little yak. She wants more than anything to be a big yak, and will try whatever it takes to grow up fast.

But what she doesn't realize, is that sometimes situations call for a yak just her size, and she is perfect just the way she is.

My Thoughts: This book is really cute. The artwork is absolutely adorable, and just makes the whole thing in my opinion.

But there is a really good message to this book as well. If you have a child that is struggling with wanting to grow up too fast, or doesn't have a lot of confidence, this book would be a great choice.

And, once again, the ART! I mean, these are just the cutest yaks ever. :)

I would like to thank Peachtree Publishing for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!

If there's one thing that kids understand, its small characters who want to be big. So there is no shortage of books on this theme. It's unusual to have a book featuring yaks, though. And Hindley's illustrations are a great deal of fun.

Another cute winter story. I am not sure it particularly stands out, but it is nice and some kids might find it funny.

This was a cute book with a lesson in it that reminded me of Rudolph's story. I love that she does everything to make herself grow, but in the end, she just needs to be herself.

NUTSHELL:
Cute, like ADORABLY CUTE, book about a yak.

REMINDS ME OF:
the "LLAMA LLAMA" series

PLUS SIDE:
+ The character was cute and had a nice theme of finding oneself.
+ Illustrations were unique enough that I think the "vibe" of this book has serious "serial" potential.
+ Lyrical writing style that didn't seem too forced or awkward.
+ I hope it becomes a series!

NEGATIVE SIDE:
- I cannot think of anything. I'm a fan!

This book was beyond adorable with important life lessons and very inspiring nonetheless. This book would be perfect for a Storytime for young kids teaching them the importance of acceptance, self-esteem, and being grateful. Love the pictures and illustrations. Beautiful color scheme and very well executed. I know this book will be popular in the pre-school and kindergarten classrooms as well.

We will consider adding this title to our Picture Book collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

This was a SUPER cute, gorgeously illustrated rhyming picture book about a little Yak named Gertie who just wants to grow up and be big. She soon discovers that sometimes being small is the best thing of all. A great book for parents and kids with the important message that we are all great just as we are (and don't rush to grow up too soon!).

The Littlest Yak
by Lu Fraser
Illustrated by Kate Hindley

Oh my, this is such an adorable book! The art just made me smile without reading a word! Cheerful little faces, colorful and fun! The smallest yak was so cute! Great snowy mountain scenes.

The story was about a small yak that just stayed small no matter what she did and she wasn't happy about it. But one day she could do something the big yaks couldn't and saved the day! The small yak then understood that she didn't have to be big to be great!

Such a fun and encouraging book for kids. Teaches them self esteem and you're special just the way you are!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this book.

5 stars is not enough for this book! The illustrations were outstanding, the story was not only entertaining, but had a wonderful message; this was one of my favorite children's books that I have ever read. I can't wait to see more of what this author has to put out. Please make sure you read this one!

"Hugeness and tallness seem SO far away.
I don't want to be small!
I need bigness TODAY!"

Small Gertie tries EVERYTHING (even reading books) to achieve bigness.

But she's just not getting there as fast as she'd like.

A small creature finding out that there's a special feat that can only be performed by the community's tiniest member . . . this is a somewhat familiar tale, but Fraser tells it nicely, with rhymes that trip easily off the tongue when read aloud. And, I went bonkers for the illustrations by Kate Hindley. LOVE that color palette!

A truly enjoyable read for both children, AND adults.

Gertie is a small yak. She wants to do the same things as the rest of her herd, so she decides to do everything she can to GROW. Then Gertie is needed for an important task that only a small yak can do. Can she do it?
The cover art of this picture book drew me in. When I saw it, I immediately smiled. Beautiful illustrations and rhyming text will keep young readers engaged and wanting more. The ending leaves you with a great message: even though you may be small you can do big, important things. I will definitely consider purchasing for my classroom. Thanks to NetGalley for a digital arc of this book.

This is a fun, relatable story for all our little ones who are so eager to grow up, to be big, to be wise, and to find their place in the world. Gertie's story shows that it's not about your size. There is a place for everyone! I love the rhymes that are used in this story, which feel natural and fun. It would make an excellent read-aloud for preschoolers and kindergarteners. But be sure to spend some time marveling at the illustrations, which beautifully capture the snowy scenes.

Gertie the Yak tries so hard to be big like the other yaks. She exercises and eats right but cannot seem to grow! Then one day, she discovers that her smallness is a benefit instead of a detriment. This book is really fun to read aloud. The story is playful and appropriately funny. The illustrations add to the meaning of the text. My students were pointing out details as we read.

This book would pair well with Millie the Monster. They are both about realizing that being little is a good thing and that growing comes in its own time.

Gertie the littlest Yak is loveable, and adorable! I read this book with my niece and she fell in love with the story, the illustrations are fantastic as well! I would gift this to any of my younger nieces and nephews for Christmas. It is the perfect little story to help make them believe in themselves.
