Carter and Jordan team up together to stop a serial killer and each page is more thrilling than the last. A dark story filled with mystery and intrigue as they race against the clock. Mary Burton is an incredible storyteller and each book is a unique experience.

I'm a Mary Burton fan. I've read many of her titles and have yet to find one that was anything except excellent. She's a master of suspense, building her characters and their back stories to reach into and react to these crimes. The two main characters in DON'T LOOK NOW must learn to trust each other to stop this killer before another woman dies.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Somebody is killing addicts and Jordan is determined to find out who. Enter: A handsome Texas Ranger, willing to help her. I loved the story. The characters are well developed and the plot kept me guessing.

Don't Look Now is the first book I have read by Mary Burton. The story centers around Jordan Poe who is homicide detective working on a case that brings back horrible memories of an attack on her sister. The killer's victims all look similar and Jordan once again is on the case until a serious injury requires her to get help if she is going to continue to work on the case. Loved the sister's relationship and how they watch out for each other. This one will keep you guessing!

Mary Burton is one of the biggest selling romantic suspense authors and I believe that part of the reason for this is that she always gets the balance between crime and love exactly right. I've always been a sucker for a man in a stetson, too many episodes of Dallas in my formative years perhaps, so any book featuring a Texas Ranger attracts me straight away. I've read all of this author's work and I think this book is one of her best. There are several viable suspects and the tension is so strong you can almost feel it. Jordan believes her sister to be a survivor of the serial killer she is chasing and is constantly on the alert and reading this book so was I. Every time Avery went anywhere by herself I was almost afraid to breathe. My only criticism is that I thought the ending after all that intrigue was a little abrupt but I'm probably just being picky. It certainly didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book

Someone is killing women. The method used is extremely unusual. When Jordon is called in the middle of the night to a murder scene she is set on the path to hunt a serial killer. When a handsome Texas ranger is given her case she is outraged but continues to look for clues. Can you discover who the killer is?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

Loved it! This novel has everything--wonderful characters, great suspense, lots of angst, and a happy ending. Jordan Poe is an Austin, TX, detective searching for a sadistic serial killer targeting young women. This case hits too close to home for Jordan since her sister survived a similar attack. Carter Spencer is a Texas Ranger who is initially called in to consult but ends up with the case, much to Jordan's dismay. I loved both characters, strong and independent, slow burn enemies to lovers. I would love to see more adventures starring them. The story grabs you from the first assault by the killer, and it's a very nasty scene. Great book by a great author.

When Detective Jordan Poe gets called to a murder scene, she is brought back to the memory of saving her own sister Avery two years ago. With striking similarities, Jordan is working against the clock when another victim is found. With what looks like a possible serial killer, Jordan's boss assigns the case to Texas Ranger Carter Spencer. Jordan has always been vehemently independent and is finding it difficult to stay quiet in the background. When she is badly injured following a lead, she has no choice but to depend on Spencer as she struggles with her loss of vision. Will they be able to catch the killer in time before he finds another target?

Despite the graphic details I found this book to be enjoyable and a page-turner. Although I caught early on who the killer was, the author wrote a flowing storyline with alternate POV's that made it hard to put down. With both Jordan and Spencer self-reliant, it made it interesting whenever they interacted with one another. Overall a good book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for the opportunity to read this book.

Burton’s inclusion of a disabled heroine as the lead character makes this book stand out in the strong suspense field. I was enthralled the entire novel. Perfect for fans of strong female heroines.

I enjoyed this book. The plot was interesting and the characters well written. I don't feel like this book has the same level of suspense as her other books, which made it hard to keep engaged with. For me this is a one off because I love her books, but this one just wasn't for me. It happens.

Don’t Look Now by Mary Burton

Dark, gritty, intense, and compelling – this book had my interest from page one and held it till the very end.

What I liked:
* Jordan Poe: homicide detective, big sister, took on responsibility for her sister when their mother died, dealt with family addiction issues, capable, intelligent, respected, professional, workaholic, interesting.
* Carters Spencer: Texas Ranger, experienced serial killer sleuth, bright, dedicated, widow, capable, professional, intelligent, intriguing, good friend.
* Avery: Jordan’s sister, addiction issues, working to stay sober, loves her sister, survivor.
* The plot and writing
* The police procedural aspects
* That there were believable red herrings
* That the serial killer was not revealed too soon (although I do read the end of books before I get to the end as I need to know what happens)
* The camaraderie of the team working the case
* Wondering if this is a standalone story or perhaps the introduction to a series – as an introduction it left me wanting more and knowing I would find out more about various characters in the future if it was a standalone…I would have liked a bit more about them and perhaps other bits to be shorter.
* Hoping that I will get to see what happens later in the lives of the main characters
* That everything was tied up at the end – no real loose ends

What I didn’t like:
* Knowing that there are people in the world as bad as the ones in this story
* Not finding out the full backstory of the serial killer – although – nothing would validate or explain the crimes committed

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This is an exciting, action-packed thriller that grabs the reader from the very beginning and doesn’t let go until the very end.

Jordon Poe is a homicide detective. She is an independent, driven workaholic who never gave up no matter how difficult the situation. Her alcoholic mother had died in a car crash when Jordon was in her early twenties and her sister Avery was only twelve.

After that, Avery lives with Jordon who is now her guardian. Unfortunately, Avery is also a drug addict. Consequently, Jordon’s life becomes chaos as she attempts to keep Avery away from dangerous people and situations. Since Avery refuses to listen to anything Jordon says, this is a very difficult time for Jordon.

Fortunately, Avery goes through rehab and is now drug-free. Meanwhile, Jordon’s latest case involves murdered drug-addicts. Because it is a very real reminder of what could have happened to Avery, Jordon takes this case personally.

Unfortunately, Jordon’s captain has turned this case over to Texas Ranger, Carter Spencer. Since the killer is obviously a serial killer, he feels it will be too much for her. However, Jordon refuses to give up the case and agrees to work with Carter.

What follows is a suspenseful story with non-stop action and a lot of intrigue. Mary Burton skillfully includes many twists and surprises that kept me on the edge of my seats.

This thriller is an exciting page-turner that will not disappoint!

Geez, I feel like I just give the same review any time I read a Mary Burton book. Always 5 stars, always love the suspense, always love the characters, blah, blah, blah. Seriously, Mary never disappoints! Seriously, I loved the storyline, who is killing addicts, and I absolutely loved Jordan! Well done, once again, Mary!!

I have read this authors work before and she writes good suspense/thriller/police procedural plots with strong female leads and this one is no less.
The plot and twists are great but I could easily figure out who it could be quite early on!!
Also the romance between the lead pair of Jordan and Spencer came quite suddenly towards the end of the book!!
But it was all neatly tied up!!
For someone looking at not an intense thriller do check this one out!
I give this one 3.5⭐
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion!

This was a very compelling mystery. The interaction between agencies, personnel and divisions within those agencies seems very true to real life. Mary Burton writes graphic murder scenes and her villains are truly evil, scarily so. What is so sad is that there really are people that evil lurking among the general population. This book also gives insight into how drug addiction affects not just the addict but their loved ones as well. Not an easy read but ultimately very rewarding and there is also a romance.

This book has well written characters with depth, a sprinkle of romance, and a mystery that blended together to make for a few sleepless nights because it is good
