This book is brilliant! It uses illustrations perfectly to balance the story between words and pictures. The delivery made me smile throughout and radiated Tilly’s innocence in such a wonderful way, I read it as my eight-year old self would have read it. It was endearing and fun.

This book was lovely to read together with my daughter who loves red pandas. We both liked how red panda facts were mixed in with the story, this made it both educational but also entertaining to read. All in all a great story for any kid not just those who love red pandas.

An utterly charming book, which will make a perfect early chapter book for children in Year 3 upwards. I loved the format of the story, with the inclusion of illustrations, the postcards, the instructions at the end of the book and the challenge boxes sprinkled throughout. These really helped to break up the text, making it perfect and less over-whelming for younger readers. The storyline is great: really inspiring for all animal enthusiasts and I can see it motivating many youngsters to become more environmentally active. I will certainly be adding this to our recommended reads for Year 3. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

What a wonderful book! I requested an ARC of this, not only because I love reading children’s books, but because I have a granddaughter who is the same age as Tilly and who loves red pandas more than anything else in the world! No spoilers here – this is just a well-written story, with brilliant illustrations, about an eight-year-old-girl who ends up in Nepal having the adventure of a lifetime. I really liked the diary format of the story and could relate to Tilly’s emotions throughout. It’s a very educational story, told in a fun way, and one which young readers will thoroughly enjoy and learn a lot from. Good one!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read the book in return for an honest review.

Review of Red Panda Rescue by Jess Butterworth

This is a lovely well written story about a girl called Tilly who goes to the Hilmalayasto track the endangered red pandas in Nepal. Nicely done and some nice illustrations thrown in as well. My six year old enjoyed the story,

** spoiler alert ** I received this book as a Netgalley ARC. I don't typically read and review books for this young of an audience but this title just totally piqued my interest, I loved the concept and from page one I knew I was going to love the book. The main character of Tilly I think was really relatable, the emotions she's going through throughout the course of the book and the fears she has are definitely something I think most people - especially children - could relate to. The format of this book gave me such nostalgia for a diary/book log I kept on my very first stay-away school trip when I was a child, I loved seeing all the illustrations she kept in her adventure diary and felt like this made Tilly seem even more real as a character, someone I saw a lot of myself in. Although most of the other characters were a little 2 dimensional this is not something I felt was detrimental to the book, I loved watching Tilly make friends and have a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with them. I also really loved the setting of Nepal, I think it was really well done, the illustrations help to bring it to life and really sets the adventure tone of the book, I think this book would be great for teaching younger readers about both places and animals they might not have heard about. The animals throughout this book were amazing, I loved the illustrations once again, and especially Tilly's cat Marigold. The plot was easy to follow and really educational but in a super fun manner and this is a series I would definitely read more of and recommend to parents.
4 out of 5 stars.
