Beryl and Edwina are ostensibly investigating a case of adultery at an artist's colony when one of the accused is found dead in "Murder in an English Glade."

Beryl and Edwina are an odd couple that complement each other well. Beryl is (slowly) learning to temper her brashness and conviction that she knows the best way to manage things, and Edwina is opening up to even more change, both personally and professionally. Edwina even agrees to pose as an artist's model in this book, so she's come a long way in this fifth book in the series.

This one was more reminiscent of Christie, with the artist's colony, the possible adulterers, an eccentric poor relation, and a group of girl guides, one of whose precociousness may well get her killed. Even though many of the elements are familiar, Ellicott makes them seem fresh. I didn't start suspecting who the killer was until fairly late in the novel.

We learn a bit more of Beryl's backstory and what she did during WWI. She and Edwina suffer a small misunderstanding that ends up strengthening their friendship and business partnership. Simpkins isn't as present as much as he is in some of the other books, but he gives Beryl some food for thought, and helps her in her character growth.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I highly recommended it.

I received an advance copy from NetGalley and Kensington in return for my honest review.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

We follow two super sleuths, Edwina and Beryl hoping to uncover a possible affair but we don't expect them to be on the hunt to discover who murdered not one, but TWO individuals at Waitland Park. Everyone at Maitland Park has a motive but Beryl and Edwina work together flawlessly to uncover the real culprit!

This is my first time reading a Jessica Ellicott book although "Murder in an English Glade" is the 5th book in this series. This book works great as a stand alone but there were a few parts in the book where I was confused about the characters and their relationships with one another. But this point should not steer you away from this wonderful mystery. I would also like to mention that I had to be SUPER focused when reading this book and even took notes (I wanted to try to solve the mystery on my own - I was waaay off). This is definitely not a "pass the time" kind of book but overall a fun read!

Kindle Copy for Review from NetGalley and Kensington Books.

I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Our international friends are back to wreak havoc and use their sleuthing skills.

Our usual American Beryl who is boisterous seeks peace as she heads to Walmsley Parva a quiet Engish town, to stay with her friend Edwina who recently broke her foot and is in financial straits.\
These two unlikely women will hook up as things will not be the same again. A quaint read in the backdrop of England in the 1920’s

Beryl and Edwina are once again a delightful duo. Their friendship and increasing understanding of each other is both charming and endearing. They really do complement each other as, once again, they are embroiled in a another murder.

It wasn't supposed to be that way. In fact, they were employed under false pretenses and there were times when the duplicity of their situation had them both feeling quite uncomfortable. And then it all changed.

This time the storyline didn't quite capture me the way some of the others did. My suspicions regarding the murderer were confirmed eventually. Perhaps too few plausible candidates this time?

But it is a most enjoyable cosy murder mystery and I will look out for the next one in the series! Let the adventures continue for those of us who are fans!

My thanks to #Netgalley, Kensington Books and the author, Jessica Ellicott for my advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Beryl is a peripatetic American and Edwina is a proper Britisher, but they were at finishing school together and became good friends. A few months ago Beryl moved in with Edwina and the set up a private enquiry agency with the help of the resourceful gardener and the more than helpful housekeeper.
This time they have been engaged to give the appearance of investigating a family problem by a local gentry whose household was involved in cigarettes as well as an artist colony and a group of Girl Guides. Then came the unexpected murder. It could have been a bit bland except for the almost farcical characters and the ever present sly humor which is very snicker-worthy. I really enjoyed this fun cozy!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

This is an excellent historical mystery. It’s extremely well written engaging the reader throughout the entire novel. The two main female characters are so comical and witty that it’s very refreshing and entertaining to read. The mystery itself is well thought out and tiny clues are interspersed throughout the novel. It’s a great addition to an already fabulous mystery series. I highly recommend and can’t wait to read more from this author!
