Chloe just loves emerald cove and her new beginning as a bartender. I'm. In love with the crazy characters and the beautiful cove. I loved the twists and turns that keep you guessing. It was fast paced and easy to read. I just got so swept up in this remarkable story. I definitely cannot wait to read the next one.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Chloe has made the decision to say goodbye to her life in Chicago and has loaded up her car with her important belongings and hit the road back to Emerald Cove and the Sea Glass Saloon. But before she returns to the saloon she does one of her favorite things, a morning run on the beach. The weather is foggy but she needs to get back to her routine. At first, she thinks the fog is playing with her but there is definitely a sailboat right up on a sandbar. She stops, and wonders how it got there but then she hears what sounds like a baby’s cry. She calls 911 and reports her find, drops her key ring, and removes her shoes when she hears another cry. She rushes to the boat but she doesn’t find a baby, she finds a kitten and a . . . human skeleton and realizes the boat has left the sand bar and is on the move.

Her shoes are found by the responders answering her 911 call. An all-out search takes place and she is found by a man in a cigarette boat who drops her near the saloon and takes off before she can even thank him. She does learn that the skeleton could be a woman who disappeared at sea 12 years ago. The wife of her new friend Ralph. He had had his wife declared dead and has remarried. Those things land him on the suspect list. There were other people on that missing sailboat and Chloe believes there is much more to the story that has evolved over those 12 missing years. Why did that sailboat reappear now and still be in pretty good shape? Where are the bodies/skeletons of the other passengers? She decides to look into the history a bit to try to answer those and other questions, but she may be treading water as she tries to tie the clues together.

I really like these characters. Chloe is still mourning the death of her friend Boone and is trying to fulfill his wishes. She and Boone’s grandmother, Vivi are going closer especially when a man arrives in town the could turn both their lives inside out. Joaquin has become a true friend as has his partner Michael. Rhett is also back in the picture, worried about Chloe. All these characters are fresh and unique as is the larger supporting cast that surrounds them. Chloe is still learning about the people of Emerald Cove and she takes some big steps in this story in getting to know them better.

Ms. Harris has treated her readers to a very complex mystery. There is a lot to untangle and a lot of moving parts. The mystery unfolds slowly keeping me intrigued the entire way. I was surprised as that mystery played out.

The author inserts a subplot mystery that is not completed within this story. I was caught up in that one just as much as the main mystery. In fact, when I flipped to the final page, I flipped back and forth a couple of times thinking I had missed its conclusion. I immediately thought, darn that Sherry Harris, she got me hook, line and sinker with a cliffhanger.

I was delighted by the humor in this story too. It breaks up the tense moments. One humorous scene has Chloe joining Joaquin and Micheal one evening. She wants to impress them with her ability to make the perfect martini. She brought all her own ingredients stating with just 3 ingredients what could go wrong? She presents the drinks and they all “take a big sip”

Ick. Maybe martinis were an acquired taste. I looked at Michael and Joaquín. They both had funny expressions on their faces. I wasn’t sure Joaquín had even swallowed his. I tried another sip. “This is awful,” I said. “This is a disgustatini, not a martini. It’s swill.” Michael and Joaquín burst out laughing. “It’s really bad, Chloe,” Michael said. “But I’ll give you points for trying.” “Let’s go in and you can show me what you did,” Joaquín said. “Eat some appetizers first,”

Then there was a little kidding about Chloe’s dislike of oysters . . . before we all learn what went wrong with the martinis. I was giggling until matters turned more serious as they delve into a more important issue.

Since I found Sherry’s Sarah W. Garage Sale Mysteries (which sadly the publisher has ended) she has become one of my favorite authors. Her mysteries make me think and I quickly become invested in her character’s lives. A Time to Swill is a prime example of this. I am truly invested in Chloe’s life. I was shouting internally, “No, don’t rush out to that boat!” It would have been a very short story if she hadn’t. She gets herself into troubling situations and I am all-in for the wild ride she takes us on. I cannot wait for our next adventure.

A Time to Swill by Sherry Harris is book two in the Chloe Jackson Sea Glass Saloon mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone.
I was super excited to read this as I loved the first in the series. I can say I was not disappointed! This is a n easy to read Cozy that checks all the boxes. Plenty of plots tiwists and suspects, relatable, likeable characters, a great setting, a tease of romance, and humor. I would love to go to the Sea Glass Saloon!
Chloe stumbles upon an abandoned boat washed ashore while jogging and swears she hears a baby crying. Instead, she finds a kitten, a skeleton, a ring and she gets thrown out to sea.. This opens the door to a mystery from long ago and has Chloe in someones crosshairs since she can't stop investigating.
I was given an ARC from Kensington via NetGalley for an honest review.

I loved the first book in this series so I was super excited to get a copy of the second one and it did not disappoint! It was fast paced and had a great mystery that involved a cold case. I enjoy the budding romance and I love how relatable Chloe is. She's just someone you want to be friends with. If you like cozy mysteries, check this one out!

This is the second book in the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mysteries and this second book was better than the first. In the first book, Chloe has gone to Emerald Cove to help out her best friend's grandmother after his death in Afghanistan. What she found out was that he had left her his home, boat and a half interest in the Sea Glass Saloon. His grandmother, Vivi, was not impressed with her but by the end of the book, she had accepted Chloe as her silent partner. In this story, Chloe finds a boat that is adrift and there is a skeleton on board. It seems the skeleton belongs to the missing wife of friend and patron Ralph. Ralph's wife and three others disappeared twelve years ago. Ralph has remarried and is now the suspect in the death of his wife. There is also another storyline dealing with Boone's estranged father that causes some issues with Vivi and Chloe. Can Chloe find out who killed Ralph's wife, what happened twelve years ago and where are the other two people who were with her when she disappeared?

There is a lot going on in this book that disrupts Chloe's new life in the Florida panhandle. I love the characters in this story. Chloe and Vivi make a great pair running the bar, and Joaquin, the handsome bartender is a hoot. He gets them going often, yet is such a hard worker and important part of the bar. The mystery was wonderful. Every time Chloe find something out, it leads her down another road. There are a lot of secrets and Chloe needs to get help from her "fixer" who appears right when Chloe needs her. The mystery was well-plotted, with plenty of twists that will keep you guessing until the exciting reveal. There were other plotlines that were an integral part of the story and made me very angry at times, fortunately things work out for the good. I enjoyed this book with its mystery, humor, and beautiful setting and recommend it to cozy mystery lovers as well as those who enjoy books set at the beach.

A time to Swill is the second book in the A Chloe Jackson Sea Glass Saloon Mystery. I definitely recommend reading this series in order!!

While on her morning run, Chloe spots a sailboat washed up on a sandbar. Hearing a cry, she climbs aboard the beached vessel to investigate and finds not only a kitten but a human skeleton in the cabin. While onboard the boat ends up back in the water thrusting Chloe, the kitten and skeleton out into the storm.

After Chloe is rescued The skeleton is tied back to her friend Ralph, whose wife disappeared on a sailboat with three other people twelve years ago. Believing his wife was lost at sea, Ralph remarried. Now he finds himself a murder suspect. Can Chloe help clear his name?

I am really enjoying this series. I love all the characters from the Sea Glass and I look forward to reading more stories about them!!

This was a great follow up to the first book in the series! Chloe was officially back and adjusting to life on the Panhandle when things turned kind of upside down. From escaping a boat fire to smugglers and possibly someone having a claim on Sea Glass, it was a real rollercoaster adventure mystery. I think Joaquin remains my favorite character. He's just awesome and always really upbeat. I think Chloe and Rhett (you've gotta read how he gets a new nickname, it's pretty hilarious but I'm not gonna spill!) make a great couple although they're smart for taking it slow. I think she's still beating herself up that she never realized her late bestie Boone had loved her romantically as she'd found he did.

Vivi was well, Vivi. But she seemed to be coming around and being kinder to Chloe along with even dare I say, having a little fun doing a drink contest with Joaquin? The disappearance of an old boat that reappeared was really mysterious to read about. And speaking of mysterious, Ann Wilson (I also really like her character) was right in the center of this doing her investigating/fixing type of thing. The adventure Chloe went on with her was pretty nail biting!

In the end, all baddies were taken care of though, and I absolutely loved the very end! That Ann is such a stinker! I'm super eager for the next book to come out now!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher Kensington via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

This is the 2nd installment in the Chole Jackson Sea Glass Saloon Mystery Series. Chole has just arrived back in the town of Emerald Cove Florida and she has driven from Chicago moving full time to Emerald Cove. She is part owner of the Sea Glass Saloon (with Boone’s grandmother Vivi )which she inherited from her best friend Boone who died in the military. Chole goes on a morning run even though it is still foggy outside and on the beach she can see a stranded sailboat stuck on a sandbar and swears she hears a crying baby. She calls 911 and as she continues to hear what she thinks is a baby she decides to go closer to the boat and go onboard. Unfortunately, the tide and wind start to move the boat and she is drifting out to sea and with the fog she is unable to determine exactly where she is. The crying baby was in fact a cat and the boat has a dead body on board. Chole is concerned as bad weather is rolling in but is able to get the generator started and make a mayday call to the coast guard. She is saved by a boat but her rescuer does not give her his name and takes off immediately after dropping her off at the dock behind the Sea Glass Saloon. The boat is later found and it is the boat that disappeared over a decade earlier with four local residents who were never found one of which was Brett’s (Boone’s friend and possible love interest for Chole). Lots of mystery surrounds what happens and one of her friends Ralph and his wife Delores have been brought in for questioning each time as Ralph’s wife Raquel was on that boat when it disappeared. Chole is getting warning signs to back off but the mystery has her intrigued. In addition to that, Boone’s father Steve appears and says Boone wrote a new will while overseas that left half the bar and his house etc to him as opposed to Chole. Chole does not believe that Boone would do this to his Grandmother as she cannot stand Steve and would never be in business with him. I like how Vivi even offers Chole a place to live with her if the will is valid. The mystery of the boat and what happened all those years ago is intriguing and I love how you are always kept guessing as to who is a suspect and who is just trying to help Chole out. She does seem to get in a lot of trouble but I do like how she is becoming part of the community. Looking forward to the next installment. ….

This is the 2nd book in the charming new cozy series "Sea Glass Mystery Series" by beloved cozy author Sherry Harris. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own. This series is a fun departure from the author's main series and a fun read with great charcters.

The setting is a fictional Florida town of Emerald Cove and our protagnist Chloe is enjoying working at The Sea Glass Saloon as a bartender. Chloe also runs a wine and book club at the bar which is a hit with the locals and has helped her make friends and fit right in. She jogs in the morning along the beach and finds a boat washed up to the shoreline mysteriously with a skeleton and a kitten alive . When the police ascertain that the skeleton may be the missing wife of one of her friends, he is soon the primary suspect. Chloe does not hesitate to investigate and is captivated by the story of the boat and what may have happened.

This was a well crafted story with a great sleuth. I enjoy the setting and the charcters of this fun series. Well done to the author for a winning cozy series. I look forward to the next in series.

This second book in the series didn't disappoint. The characters, particularly Chloe, Joaquin and Vivi, feel real and believable; they have more depth. Ditto the actual murder/crimes committed in these books - they have a little more substance than your typical cozy. All this makes for an amazing read. Can't wait for the next one!

Florida, the beach and a bar. Sounds like a perfect setting for a run of the mill cozy. Except this is anything but. Yes, there is fun in the sun, murder and good relationships. There is also suspense, fully developed characters and realistic clashes between recurring characters without one being the good guy and one the bad guy.

Chloe is a newly transplanted New Englander who recently found herself the half-owner of a bar in Florida when her best friend dies in Afghanistan. There is the typical culture clash that one would expect. I really liked Chloe. She’s trying to establish herself in a very different clime than she is used to and to make new friends while grieving for someone she was very close to and turn her life in a new direction. She is a very believable character as are the other people around her. Not everyone welcomed her with open arms, particularly her best friend’s mother who doesn’t expect to have to share her business and life with this interloper.

Well plotted and well imagined, it is also well written and will keep mystery readers happy with a blend of suspense, humor, believable characters and surprises, not to mention a great locale. I will be back to this destination on my next vacation.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

A Time to Swill by Sherry Harris is the 2nd book in the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon mystery series, and a great book. I love Ms. Harris's books and am a big fan of Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery series, and this series is equally as good. Chloe Jackson leaves Chicago to go to the Florida Panhandle to care for her late friend, Boone's grandmother, who turns out not to need help. But Chloe inherited Boone's part ownership of the bar and his house. A sailboat that's been missing for years, washes ashore, and Chloe is determined to solve the mystery of the missing passengers. Boone's dead beat father also claims that Boone left him everything, not Chloe. I can't say enough good things about this book, if you love cozy mysteries, you will love this book. I can't wait for the next book in the series, strongly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

What a fun series! It makes what to move to the Gulf Coast with my books and work in a bar. I would be like Chloe in the fact that I do not know the first thing about mixing drinks unless it is a Bloody Mary and I am fairly certain I do that wrong. LOL

Favorite part of the book: the mention of Seaside and Sundog Books. Anytime I am close to the area I visit both. It is so beautiful and the bookstore is fun and full of treasures.

Least favorite part of the book: I was left hanging with a secondary mystery that started in this book. I am not sure if I missed the closure or if it was purposely left open for the next book.

Chloe is fun and lovable and the relationship growing between her and Boone's Grandma ViVi is beautiful.

If you love books set in Florida then you have to read this series. Read in order to get the best out of it.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Kensington Books, through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in the above review are my own.

Love, love, love this series, and this book did not disappoint.
Great interaction with the characters as Chloe discovers yet another body. While determining the meaning of all that is happening, Boone's dad shows up claiming that Boone left everything to him, and Chloe will have to move. Won't give anything away, but knowing Chloe, she will investigate until she has all the answers she needs.
If you love cozy mysteries, this is a great book. Helps with character relationships to read the first book, but it is not necessary to enjoy this one.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A Time to Swill is the second book in the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series written by Sherry Harris and it follows the first, 'From Beer to Eternity '.

The reader soon meets the star of the show, children's librarian Chloe Jackson who has waved goodbye to Chicago winters and is living in warmer climes. She promised her late friend Boone that she would help out in Boone's grandma's bar, the Sea Glass Saloon, in Emerald Cove, Florida. Chloe has settled into her new life working with bar owner Vivi Slidell and has taken to spending her early mornings running on the beach. One morning she notices a boat on a sandbar. Climbing aboard, she is shocked to find a skeleton and soon realises the boat is moving with the tide...

I thought this was an excellent, really solid continuation to the series. I enjoyed reading the author's wonderful descriptions of the gorgeous beach setting, and I could almost feel the cool sea breeze. Emerald Cove sounded fabulous with its strong, vibrant touristy vibe. Sherry Harris has created a delightful set of characters; apart from Chloe herself who I found to be intelligent, caring and smart, I also liked Vivi for her spirit and vivacity.

The writing was fast-paced, and the mystery itself was very well executed, with abundant red herrings and twists to sustain my interest. All in all, a brilliant instalment with snippets of humour, and a great layered substory as a cherry topping. I will certainly be returning to Emerald Cove to see what Chloe is getting herself into next. I highly recommend A Time to Swill to those who appreciate well-written cozy mysteries.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
